Laini twitched her tail. It had annoyed her that the juvenile had chased away a good meal. Whether or not it was on purpose, Laini didn't bother to clarify to herself. Regardless, she had decided she'd show the cub how you're supposed to do it. If that cub kept with the way she was now, someone could end up dead and Laini wasn't referring to the prey.

The zebra would be on their toes now so they were out of the question. Luckily, however, they were in a prime grazing area and wildebeests were up ahead. They weren't like antelope who had males guarding certain feeding areas so it'd be easier to approach the slow stupid ones for Iola's stake. She stopped and waiting for the cub to come up beside her so that she could begin instructions.

The cub didn’t bother making eye contact, as she trotted up to and stood a good few feet away from the lioness, dreading any sort of contact. Her body might have willed her forward, but she wished to be away. The cub stared dully at the grass surrounding them. It swaying lightly in the breeze. She didn’t know why Laini stopped abruptly, and why here. The cub fiddled her paws in front of herself as she waited for Laini to start walking again, assuming that was what she was going to do.

Laini looked sideways at Iola and almost burst out laughing. The juvenille was afraid of her! Well, perhaps that was good. Those afraid of punishment listen to orders better. She nodded her head in the direction of the barely visible wildebeests. "See them? They're the target. Now you can't be lazy like someone of Mo's coat color can. You have to be sneaky and cunning. Walk low to the ground and always keep your eye on the target. They could move or detect you at any moment and you have to be ready."

She began moving again, doing exactly as she had explained to do. She began to whisper now. "That one, the one in our path that looks incredibly stupid. Yes, I know they all look stupid but the one that looks more so. It's a female, healthy and not pregnant or a recent mother which means she isn't aggressive."

Casting her navy gaze over towards the hidden wildebeests, the young one tensed. Nodding solemnly, to confirm her understanding. Iola stared aloof as the huntress started forward. Leaving the cub to fallow. The lilac femme crept up behind the older, more experienced female. As the grass swayed in the breeze she could see the distinct features of the beast. It was slightly larger than the zebra, in the cub's opinion, the erect horns on it's head was what swayed her opinion. Iola stared at Liani with disbelief. She really expected her to tackle that!? Discouragement washed over her, and worry. Even though her words spoke down and belittled the animals, they must have had some smarts enough to know to run from danger. But Iola wouldn’t back down. Even if this was more intimidating than the zebra; her emotional state was altered dramatically aswell. If she and the lioness had done this earlier she would have had her normal friskiness. She would have been all for the idea of taking the beast down, and would have worn the animal's skin as a fashionable coat. But not this time. The harsh words forced her back, forced her to not fully enjoy her first hunting experience. Her face holding no expression, Iola sat patiently, waiting for some sort of 'sign'. She took the words to heart, wanting more than anything to remember the female's words of wisdom, even if it didn't show. Iola stared threw half lidded eyes at the towering monster that grazed yards away.

Iola's fear had been amusing at first, but Iola began to stink of it. Wildebeests were easily intimidated if they shall the hunter aggressive but if it saw fear in their eyes, it would stare them down and perhaps even fight. They might be taller than zebras but they weren't as well-muscled and only males were inclined to use their heads in battle.

With a sigh, she moved to stop Iola from moving forward. "Do not look so afraid." She said softly. "There is nothing to be afraid of. Yonder wildebeest eat the grass, fatten up, and reproduce but in the end it's either the hunter or simple death itself that claims it. Regardless, it will die. All prey are giving the arts of protection but when the hunter is ready and determined, the hunter cannot be stopped. You think like a hunter and you'll act like a hunter." She flexed her shoulder muscles and sighed again. "You'll get used to it in time. Look, I won't hold it against you if you fail. But will you at least try?"

Iola stopped as the other moved in front of her path. What now!? She thought bitterly, her eyes holding a coldness to them. What was excepted of her to say? Iola was at a loss of words. The cub merely shrugged in understanding. Not knowing why the adult choose now of all times to make a speech.
"I never said I wouldn’t." She snapped, eyes narrowing. "I'm ready, okay!? So lets do this."
Iola felt slightly restless. What was expected from her? ...she was hear wasn't she? Was that not enough? The cub dug her claws into the earth, they both where at wits end, she could feel the dough from the lioness sink in aswell. Like she almost didn't believe in her either. Iola side stepped, taking her position next to the lioness. "So remind me...what exactly are we waiting for?"

"We are waiting for the right moment." Laini replied, choosing not to voice her anger at Iola who did not seem to appriciate what Laini was taking the time to do for her. "If you move too quickly all at once and rather do not get as close as you could with stealth before you leap, then you are likely to lose your prey or put yourself in a danger that wouldn't exist otherwise. Also, it is important to know your standing and the ground beneath your feet." She looked quickly at the wildebeests and back at Iola. "Now would you like to make the first move or should I? It doesn't matter much to me, as long as you're ready."

"I wanna make the first move." She voiced quickly in response. The cub felt that this might make up for the stampede her cause earlier. Even if she'd mess up, at least she tried. Iola took in a breath and slid through the sea of gold. Once getting merely feet away from the wildebeest the cub crept at a slower rate until she came to a complete halt. Looking over her shoulder uneasily in search of the lioness for guidance she found Laini wasn't there. The juv gulped realizing she was infact alone in this. Ears pressed back against her skull she brought back her lips exposing her pearly whites. Where should I go? The legs? Or the neck? Maybe....the back? The female flexed her claws again, leaving them out this time, before steadily approaching the beast. The animal suddenly arched her neck, a drool drop hanging off the bottom lip. She had gotten wind of something she didn’t like, the monstrous beast craned her head high, looking past where the child was hidden. Man Laini was right...this one is a dope. The juv thought, building confidence. Without a moment more of hesitation the soon-to-be lioness lashed out with open claws, leaving deep gashes in the beasts side. The female reacted quickly, tossing it's head and bucking frantically for the youngster to get off. Luckily for Iola her claws where deep enough that she managed to hold on, the wildebeest continued it's bucking while Iola slowly began her ascent up into the females back. The juv gripped steadily with her maw the flesh of the other, and latched on her back legs on the tender underbelly of the female. Geezz! This is alota work! Where's Laini!? The cub thought desperately, she could feel her muscles weaken from the over use. Soon she'd either fall off or get jerked off by the jerky motions of the wildebeest.

Laini watched Iola carefully as she hid herself the best she could in the yellow-brown grass. She gave the young female props for choosing to go first. Iola was working her way up in Laini's esteem already. Of course Laini had never been the best at staying angry no matter how she might pretend. While Iola launched herself at the wildebeest's back, Laini crept her way up to its front. It was dangerous to attack head on because it was easier to be thrown clinging to the neck, but if done right, it ended things swiftly. As it tried to throw Iola off, Laini pushed hard off the ground, paws and claws extended and clawing into the deep muscles of its neck, she sunk her teeth into the bottom of its neck. Now it began to dip its head and kick with its forefeet. Her back leg took a hit but she kept hold. Either it would die from the lack of blood in its neck, rip an important muscle in its neck, wear itself out, or maybe die from something Iola could manage to think up. All that mattered is that Laini didn't let it run, that she didn't let it go. Determination was painful but it paid off.

She felt her grip slipping and carefully tried to sink her claws higher on its neck so she didn't fall. To do so, she had to take her mouth out of its neck. She took the opporunity to encourage Iola. "That's it! You're doing great so far."

The wildebeest jolted violently, as if it collided with something. The cub's weight was causing her to slid down, leaving behind a long streak of gash marks where her claws had dug into. Iola found it hard to hold on, the once tight flesh had now become loose and hard to keep a grip on. Iola lunched up the side of the mammals body, propelling herself up the side and clung to it's hump of a backbone. Where she got to see first hand how the professionals got it done. Much to her surprise Laini was here all along, just on the other side.... The girl watched in awe, how perfectly the lioness held the wildebeest’s windpipe clenched snuggly between her jaws. Iola looked back at her own work...just superficial wounds, scars to be best, nothing life threatening. The young femme looked on, and cringed seeing the painful blow to the leg her teacher got from the still lively female. It might have grown weaker...by this things still moving! Hunting was a hell alota work... Her tiresome words washed away at Laini's reassuring ones. I've come this far...might aswell ride this out! Besides....Laini's watching... Iola thought shyly, she didn't want to feel weak near the headstrong female...she wasn't all that bad, infact the cub idolized her for her in-your-face attitude. Mustering up her strength Iola dug her claws into the tough hide on the back and let out a playful cheer. "Woooo!!! Go Laini! Woooohoooo! Hang in there!" The cubs normal childish antics returned. And even if she didn't mean to be mocking the animal of prey she kind of was, by rooting on the lioness.

Laini felt rather encouraged by Iola's words but at the same time, wanted the darn thing to be over. She yanked down until the skin was nearly torn off from the body, pouring out more blood then it had before. With a vindicated grin, she released and bit deep right below its jaw and using her lower body as dead weight, dragged it down, down, down, or at least she tried to. She could almost see its bulged eyes as it tried to pull away, leaning forward and yet her rump in the air. As much as her mouth muscles could manage as she bit, she grimanced and hoped this wasn't jeopardizing Iola. It had several gashes from Iola on its side, several puncture wounds on its neck from Laini, why wasn't it dying? What darn god was protecting it? She yanked harder. Die she thought venimously. Then her bum rested against the ground; then that position became uncomfortable. Slowly, as if in denial of its death, it sunk to the ground. She moved out from under it and nodded satisfied.

"There we go~," she said like it was no big deal. She was breathing heavily and had to snort a couple of times to get the animal's blood out of her nose but otherwise appeared not to have suffered. Laini trotted over to the stomache of the animal, the best part. "And now~ we eat."

"Hurray! Laini, you did it!" Iola cheered, and whooped. The child hoped off the animal and lingered closely by Laini, her tail swaying side to side. She watched, a gasp caught in her throat as the female began to work at the corpse.

Meanwhile...
A pair of hyena's yards away could easily hear the commotion of a kill. One with a glassy eye licked at his chops while the younger, more sinical one merely laughed in a manic fashion. Once the smell of blood reached there nostrils the pair darted off in the direction. Partially thinking in the back of there mind that it was a large group of females who took down the hunt, hopefully they'd get the scraps. But as they closed in to there astonishment it was just one female and...a runt. "We're gonna eat tanight" The hyena with the glassy eye grunted.

Laini withdrew her head from the steaming carcass to admire her work. She licked the blood from her lips briefly and looked over to Iola. "You don't want any?" she asked, surprised Iola hadn't tried to take any for herself. "Come have some. There's more than enough for the two of us." She flicked a fly off her rump with her tail idly much like a zebra would, in a friendly mood. Laini let out a roar of a yawn. Yup. After the meal was over, a nap would be well in order.

Over Iola's shoulder, she noticed the two hyenas as if her mention of the amount of meat had summoned them. She let out a low growl and instinctively flexed her claws. She'd be darned if they got any.
