Apparently, that's what Microsoft has in store for us. We're getting high tech coffee tables before getting powered armors or giant robots.

I can't help but wonder how that technology would be implemented in FPS games, MMOs, and so on.

Opinions on it?

Seems pretty asanine to me. I think it would be difficult to play games on. And who the hell is going to shell out $10,000 just to save a few seconds transferring digital pictures? Other than Bill Gates. Probably just wanted a new conversation piece in his tea room and put his team to work on it.

More people than you might even dare to think, believe me. sweatdrop

Yeah, it's a big thing for certain businesses more than private use.

Also, there are some low grade powered exoskeletons in development. They're pretty clunky though.

I definitely saw it as business-geared and not individual-geared. it is kind of unwieldy for personal use; in personal computers, the trend is to making them smaller and more compact, not bigger - but imagine a conference room where the table everyone's sitting around is a computer that you can all share and use at the same time. i'm sure there are companies that would find that useful.

I think the technology itself is very interesting and cool, however, yes, it is impractical for the average consumer to purchase and use. I do like what it's capable of, but obviously not at its price tag. xd

I'm thinking the coffee culture of our region has finally seeped into their marketing mentality. razz

It'd be nice if the software could be implemented on a tablet PC or something, but I can't see much use out of it on the home market as the full table. I can only come up with good purposes on a commercial basis, such as it might be helpful in business, art, or museum displays. xp

In a workplace, I can see something like this easily. Manipulating pictures or any other digital document in a totally intuitive way as shown in the movie.

However, I do see some application for this in PC, such as a way to replace a mouse. Ergonomically speaking, there's still development to make but I really do see the potential of such technology (ie the idea of it).

I WOULD LOVE TO MAKE ART USING THAT.
There's so much that could be done...
Virtual collage, painting, sketching...

I can definitely see it being useful in an office,
not so much in the home.

I know Apple now has the iPhone, which uses exclusively touch based interface.

A coffee table computer sounds nice, but excessively extravegant and unneccessary for home use.

I'M SO EXCITED TO GET ONE OF THOSE!! IN A COUPLE OF YEARS WHEN THE PRICE GOES DOWN/AFTER I'VE SAVED UP FOR ONE!!! Love the Mac stuffs.

But anyway, I think it's awesome for businesses. Like PG said, it would be awesome for a conference room, and if they can integrate it into a cubicle desktop, think of all the room and such it could save.

I don't think it's really practical to integrate it into a coffee table, because one, a coffee table is too low to sit on a couch and use for hours on end. It would kill your back. Two, it's too clunky. The point of electronic devices is to make them as small as possible.

The idea is awesome, though.

Edit: Awesome = word of the day. gonk

I prefer my coffee table that's basically a giant chest that I can cram all my crap into.

According to Wiks McPedia, the price will drop to a consumer friendly level after 3 years, just like every other electronic in this world.

If you notice, it was featured in the movie The Island.

On a side note that's not totally unrelated....

I hate Office 07. With a passion. Compatability issues with itself. ******** thing.

Oh wow.
I wonder what'd it be like if you got a blue screen of death on that thing.
That's pretty cool, though. I can't see myself ever owning one, even if we got the money, due to my family's bad habit of wrecking furniture. x_x Unless that thing is indestructible. Think like.. not even an nuclear bomb can destroy it. Then I guess I'd probably invest in one. XD
