So of course i'm feeling pressure to get a new job. The comic shop guys love me, i may end up working at one of them. Or this local book store, i'm not too sure yet on that one though.
But enough about that. I want to talk about dream jobs (or careers whatever).
I got a few. well lets see. One of them is to live off selling my prints and paintings. (hahahahahahaha). And publishing my comic online that wouldn't be copy-paste xerox stuff.
another is to co-own a hang out place where gamer/comic/anime/cosplay/generally nerdy clubs can hold meetings and what have you. Maybe even have gaming tourneys. I'd have a basket of deodorant samples hanging by the door. Though i may end up killing customers.
and yet another is to (don't laugh) work for Gaia. I'd like to deal with the servers and what have you. i love working with all the networking and security stuff. Though I also love working with hardware, i could add wink wink and make this complete. *wink wink*

Erm... congradulations or condolences (whichever one suits better) on not having a job. Hope you find one you like.
My dream carrier... wow I have had a couple.
I always wanted to be a clothing designer. But since Im sewingretarded and end up sewing my fingers together I think that one is a bust.
I wanted for the longest time to be a photographer, but realised soon enough that its almost only based on luck (example: being at the right spot, at the right time, with the right lighting), and skill which although my basic skill isnt all that bad, its not that good either.
Yep I also wanted to be a artist. Not sure why though, just wanted to be one.
The one dream job I still hold and would truely love is to become a writter. I dont think anything would make me happier then if I would become a succesfull writter. It would be my perfect job. I would be a stay at home mother that writtes abselutely smutty books xd , alright I was gona writte fantasy but I like the idea of being a stay at home mom with 3 kids running around while I think of a fancy new way to say... erm... "saucage" rofl

Even back when chris and I thought we (he) couldn't have kids, I wanted a work-from-home job. I enjoy working overall, but I wanted to be able to sleep in once in a while when i felt like crap and stuff. Either work-at-home or self-employed.
Now that I'm on paid mat leave until next may, it gives me an opportunity to play with my skills and interests and see what's worth pursuing. I've been thinking about photography, I get a huge kick out of artistic photography and making a career out of that would be spectacular. Chris and I are buying a really good camera this year as a birthday present to both of us. Which is a little unfair because I already know I'm going to hoard it and get edgy when he touches it like i do with the computer. I've already got the college training in photo-editing and stuff (I was recently offered a job at a large school-photography company doing touchups, but declined because uh, i would have had to quit after a short time) I just need to learn more about the technical aspects of photography itself. I might still take a course next year. Both the School of Photography and the local college that is right up there with our local University teach courses that are aimed for those intending to work independantly and include business-management courses, which I've taken already, and photoshopping, which again, I've already taken, but it doesn't hurt to go over it again.
The other thing I've been thinking about lately is writing. Not books, necessarily, but articles and stuff. My english teacher would pee himself with joy, he was always pushing me to publish my stuff...

A job that gives me tons of money in spurts, but downtime so I can kick back a bit. Thus I go to accounting school, do consider the possibility of going back to test games when I'm done crunching taxes.

besides being a bounty hunter/mercenary, I'm already pursuing my dream job; video game journalism, or at least some kind of special interest journalism.
Maybe a bounty hunting-ninja-journalist?

What steps are you taking to be a video game journalist? I've had that on my mind as well, but haven't thought much on how I should go about it.
Though oddly I wonder if I should shoot for the viable market of "moms who borrow their kid's DS while they're grounded". xd

I'd looooove to work at Borders. Or as a fantasy book reviewer.
Other that that, something kinda science-y. We did recombinant DNA in my Adv. Bio class this year, and oh my God was it cool.

I'd love to be an illustrator. Preferably for fiction, book covers, short stories, RPGs, whatever.
If I could, I'd also love to be a gallery whore. Not a whole lot compares to seeing your art on a gallery wall, especially if you get monetary compensation. Sadly, the upscale galleries don't really like art that's recognizable.
So I'll most likely be making my living doing a combination of the above, and supplemented by working as an art professor.

i like what i'm doing right now, and i think doing a job like it - surrounded by great people my own age with just the right measure of enthusiasm and bitterness (if everybody JUST hates what they're doing and wants to get out, it's not as fun as if you hate it comically) - would be great to do for the forseeable future. it doesn't matter if it's this specific job - the actual contents of the job don't matter.
but this one is pretty great because, uh, beer fridays. sure, i could be getting paid more, but i bet your job doesn't have a couple guys who go across the street and buy a couple six-packs of bottles of sam's summer ale for everyone on friday afternoons. even if you don't like beer or don't drink, you have to see how that kind of thing contributes to a workplace culture that is desirable.
i used to want to write for a living. fiction, like - novels. but i suck at finishing things and i'm not naive or egotistical enough to imagine i've got a shot at actually making money that way.
my new possible career is college professor; this is also known as "my dad is pressuring me to go to grad school but what else can you do with a PhD in history?"

Though oddly I wonder if I should shoot for the viable market of "moms who borrow their kid's DS while they're grounded". xd Well, I'm taking journalism now as a major, and pursing writing classes. I also work in a video game store, so basically, just pursue journalism in general as a study, and get your foot in the door when it comes to the video game part.

I could also be like my mom and go back to school when my kid hits kindergarten, become a TA, and do the whole TA/Human Resources/Stalk My Kids At School thing. haha. Okay, mom didn't stalk us, but she was right there for the teachers to be like, "So, Laura wasn't in class, is she sick?" "No, but she's gonna wish she was!" It's a pretty ideal gig for a mom, considering the hours and location are exactly the same as your kids' are, very convenient. Plus if your kid needs you you're right there, and if they don't you're not in thier face at all. It was a good situation. Too bad TAs are so underpaid.
But let's be honest here... we all would REALLY like a job where we could do whatever the hell we want, whenever we want, and get paid for it. heart
