Duncan strode into the main room at HQ for the first time in a long time, pencil and notepad strapped to his foreleg. It was a vast improvement over trying to write on the ground or carpet with his paws, after all.
So why here, of all places, when he hadn't come here in so long? Maybe he was hoping to run into an old friend. Or a new one. Maybe he just wanted a change of scenery. And give his parents some alone time. Whatever the case, he curled up next to an easy-chair and waited for something to happen.

Nonono. Murky eyes scanned nervously around the HQ halls in search of her precious fan. How could she lose it so carelessly? Not only was it a family gift by her mother, but also her way of calming stress. Besides its normal use of fanning, the young witch had put lavender scent upon it to calm her senses. Rooms had passed with still no results. Her search had made it to the last and biggest room, the main entrance. Keeping her gaze trained to the floor, the femme sniffed and peeked around carefully for the yellow device.

Duncan shifted and felt something poking at his hind leg so he opened his eyes and turned to peer at the culprit. Was that... Nahanni's fan? His tails thumped softly as he picked the object up carefully. He hadn't seen her in a while... would she even remember him? He didn't think she'd just leave it lying around.
He stood partway up and peeked around the other side of the chair to see if anyone was about, not yet having spotted the now-grown young witch.

Nose twitched like a bunny at the faint smell of lavender. Daring to lift her eyes, she froze as she realized a form was on a nearby chair. Though, from this angle she didn't know who it could be. Still, she didn't want to spur much attention of any kind. Tucking her tails, she ducked her head while glancing around the room, not knowing what to do. Still no sign of her fan.

Duncan tilted his head when he finally did spot Nahanni. She was awfully shy... if she didn't realize it was him it was quite probably she'd hide or avoid him. So... he set the fan down and scribbled a quick note on a piece of paper, "Hey! It's Duncan! Found your fan." Then he folded it into a little paper airplane after tearing it out of the notepad and tossed it her way. He'd call for her if he had to but... he avoided having to make sound with his malformed vocal chords.

Ears darted up when the other kitsu moved, with the sound of paper and sight of a little plane, Nahanni put the pieces together. Duncan? Paws reached out and padded the paper plane flat to confirm her thoughts. Yep, and he had found her fan! Her tummy flopped happily, and eyes brightened as she practically trotted up to the other. "Nice to see you again Duncan." How long had it been? All she really remembered was still being a kit among her adult...friends?

Duncan grinned and scribbled on his notepad. "Nice to see you, Nahanni. Looks like you grew up on me this time!" He nudged her fan over so she could retrieve it and added. "You're even prettier now." Well, he did think she was pretty. He didn't mean anything overt, just a compliment.
"How have you been? Family thing any better?"
((And yes, we're just asuming he writes all this. XD))

Nahanni nodded proudly, the second comment going by without second thought. She heard such things all the time. From boys to girls, friends to family. To her, all were just the same words of kindness. She reached out for her beloved fan, enjoying the sight and smell of her long lost item. "Thank you, Duncan." Eyes blinked slowly at the family question, not really expecting it. "I'm doing better. I...at least like to think so. And my parents have helped my training."

Duncan nodded. He just remembered her saying something about her very large family... his was much smaller and even so he needed space from time to time, it must have been horrible for a shy girl like her.
Her mention of training brought his ears forward. "Training with what?"

Eyes blinked, before realizing not everyone put up with magic in the family. She kept her eyes trained on her fan, suddenly aware and catious of the topic. "Training of magics. Mine is...sort of like mind reading. Just more with emotions...." Perhaps that was a reason why she was so distant and introvert. Even with training she still found emotions difficult to understand and express.

Duncan just nodded knowingly. "Empathy. Heard of it. One of the people back at mom's place has it... sorta. Can't remember her name off the toppa my head. Never... 'talked' to her much."
He leaned over and nosed the fan. "Will you show me that trick you mentioned yet?"

Empathy, the umbrella term for such magic. Nahanni nodded in return, having been aware that few others outside her home were gifted as well. Brow raised as he asked her of the trick. "I...can do that." Paws went to work at opening the fan, pausing for a moment to observe the design. Giving a concentrated sigh, she began to swing her arm in a low arch. Her mind counted down to one, and with a flick of her wrist, she tossed the fan in the air. It dance for a second suspended in the air, twisting and spinning about. In its descent, Nahanni turned her paw pads up to catch the device and balance it vertically. She sat back on her hind quarters while glancing back to Duncan. "Ummm....ta da?"

Duncan blinked his bright green eyes and then clapped his paws together softly a few times. "That's a neat trick. I wish I knew a trick. All I'm good for is pretending to be a brick wall. =P" At least he'd been told it was about as much use arguing with him as it was with a brick wall.

Nahanni listened to Duncan's compliments and words as she balanced the fan. Drawing her arm in slowly, she flicked her wrist to snatch the fan shut, and hold it close to her ruff. Eyes blinked in a blank and confused manner. "Brick wall?" Was that a good thing? She had never heard of that expression in her family, nor could she relate it to any of her kin. Perhaps Romulus. Is that what he meant?

Duncan chuckled silently. "I'm overprotective of my family and stubborn as a mule, or so I've been told. I've been told it's about as much use arguing with me when I'm set on something as it is to argue with a brick wall." He shrugged. "Does your family any nick-names for you?"
