A ray of light searched its way through the swaying leaves. As something so small, you had to be careful where you landed, and that your victims were unwary. Not that a ray of light had to worry about being eaten, except by the shadows. It found its target quickly, alighting on its soft black nose.
The creature stirred and lifted its head, revealing a grey underchin, with a vibrant pink top. It was really too bad she wasn't sleeping in the flowers, or she would have blended right in. However, Noyama wasn't in the mood for flower snoozing. She had a bit of an allergy to them, and deliberately sticking her body in the midst of all that color might be devastating. Not to mention what it might do to her sinuses!
Sighing lightly, Noyama took a view of the area. Her ears rotated lightly on her crest, black-teared eyes softly surveying. Upon first glance she could see nothing amiss - the day seemed normal. The only problem was, she had no idea where she was. There was no Dakeyras sleeping next to her, or pink vermin running about. In fact, she wasn't even remotely in the same type of territory. Where she remembered falling asleep there was a vast expanse of open rock, stretching on into infinity, and the sun would just make it past every morning. Here, it was dark, wooded, and knarly.
Perplexed, she rose a little farther and then remembered she'd been dreaming. They'd been coming to her lately, these dreams. Most of the time there were just puppies - all pink. On occasion a nightmare - there was a blue one. However, as of late, there had been some additions, and the thoughts that came rather disturbed her.
Most of the time it was just that one male. She'd only seen him once, and she hadn't liked him much becuase of his distaste for the cougar which she so sorely loved. However, his scars had intrigued her. In any case, he was there ever few nights, shaping her dreams. At first, he just stayed close by, touching her with his nose randomly, and sending odd chills down her body.
Which was odd, because Noyama had no love lust. The only male she wanted to see was pink, so he could bear her puppies so that she might rule the world. Love was not in her vocabulary. But Dak had done things, wonderful things in her dreams, and it had made her mind wander. Then she'd woken up, but only today did she have a dream so vivid.
Shaking her head at the stupidity of it all she gently rose to her feet, swaying her body from side to side to rid the forest loam from her grey coat. It was time for a nice walk. She needed to make herself exhausted so she stopped dreaming. They weren't real, and there wasn't nothing to attach herself to, so she may as well ignore them.

Even if one preferred the cover of darkness, the touch of sunlight on leaves or the sparkle of gold across the waves was not unpleasant. Far from it, in fact. Dakeyras stretched, his paws sliding through the loam and mud on the banks of the small pond.
Nearby a frog lept into the still water. Light followed the ripples, tracing them to the far edges and back. What was he himself, but a frog in the pond? He came and the ripples spread - he killed, he left, and the evil returned. The pool became still again.
Blue eyes stared hard at the image reflected in the pool. Pale, haunted eyes were the most startling feature. Unwaveringly, however, his gaze was drawn to the scars - and the "blood" that stained his limbs. Though he was loath to admit it, not all of it was mere markings.
Certainly not all of it was prey-blood.
Waylander is not dead. He merely sleeps.
Dak grunted and stood. He knew the truth, but he hoped it would stay buried. Along with all the corpses that littered his own past. He had wandered here long enough to know his task could be completed in a day. So why did he wait?
Shaking off his thoughts, the wolf stepped carefully on the mossy rocks that were scattered haphazardly along the shore. No paw prints were left behind. No sign of his passing. The water had stilled.
Paw steps crackled faintly through the brush nearby, and the dark male turned his weary gaze towards the sound.

Noyama would have spit out the poetry that Dakolin was reciting in his head to the pond. She wasn't one for plays on words, or literate renditions of one thing or another. Life was meant to be straight and simple. End of story. This was why she loathed shamans. They had no right to try to affect the balance of life. It was kill, or be killed. Eat or be eaten. That was the law, and they broke it.
Then a scent caught her nose and she paused, her ears twirling. How had she not heard the individual. The scent, too, seemed oddly familiar. She would have thought to have known of another wolf's presence already. Biting her lower lip she tucked her tail low. Whoever it was, she hoped they were friendly. There was no way she could risk getting her hide tanned - even if it were a blue wolf.
Yet, as the ferns brushed over her face and the wolf came into view she realized that he wasn't blue at all. In fact, he was far, far from it. Her breath held for a moment, head poking out of the foliage to gaze at this male.
Would he recognize her? Did he have dreams about her, too? It would be rather odd if he did. In fact, she found it rather disgusting. In fact, if he even made a subtle move at all, she'd slit his throat. Then again, perhaps she wouldn't, because that was an awful dirty task. If she was going to bloodstain her grey fur, it would have to be Tiberius' blood.
There was nothing worse than a pink and blue wolf. Nothing.
"Dakeyras?" she whispered lightly, her eyes watching him, but still refusing to move from her bush. It felt safe, and for a confident wolf, the dreams she'd been having had sent her into a much shier mode.

"Still alive?"
He wasn't really that surprised. She had a pet cougar, after all! Or was she the cougar's pet? He grinned, a lopsided gleam of fangs, but his humor evaporated quickly. He wasn't in the mood for company today. Certainly not from a wolf who looked so much like her.
Dak paused on the edge of the pond, paws carelessly sinking into the cold mud bank.
He was trying to move on, to do what he did best and let the past lie alone like it belonged - forgotten. He knew he was doing a poor job at best. Everywhere he went, there were reminders... His expression grew stony, pale eyes hard.
"What do you want, girl?"
Absently he wondered why she was hiding behind a bush. His ears flickered uncertainly, straining to catch the stealthy sound of hidden attackers.

She figured it was a rhetorical question, but it didn't stop her from frowning. He was such a b***h.
Prejudiced, too.
I mean, he was so nice in those dreams, but the real Dak was somebody she'd gladly push off a cliff. In fact, maybe he'd jump of a cliff, he seemed to be gloomy enough. Emo. That was the word. Depressed and perhaps suicidal.
Didn't he say he'd been an assassin? Okay, so he killed others. Maybe he wasn't brave enough to kill himself.
"Do I have to want something?" she idled, snapping a twig heatedly beneath her paws and charging out of the bush, apparently her moments fear suddenly forgotten in the moment.
"I happened to smell you, and I figured with cougar gone, you wouldn't have your prejudiced nose up your a**." She snorted, and pinned her ears, but didn't go. Her subconcious wouldn't let her.

"My prejudiced nose?" Dak chuckled darkly. "I'm not the one who hates anything blue. My... dislike of those cats is based on more than hear-say, kiddo."
She had no idea what she was dealing with. Certainly not the darker side of those animals. If something came along that interested that cat more, he'd be gone -- wolf pup or no.
The younger wolves always thought they knew best. Maybe some of them did. Hell, he had been the same way when he was young; convinced of his own immortality and righteousness.
Noyama was wrong -- he wasn't suicidal. The thought didn't ever occur to him, not really. If he was one to believe in the Source, he might fear divine retribution and judgment. As it was... well, redemption wasn't a horrible option, and maybe he could draw even.
Dak flicked his tail in annoyance, but a wry smile ghosted across his jaws.
"If you're so pissed, girl," He drawled, "why are you sticking around?"
Really. He was fine on his own. Better, in fact! Didn't have this pink and black ghost-from-the-past hovering around.

"I don't hate them," she grumped. "I just prefer not to affiliate with them. They live short lives." She watched him for a moment. Idiot.
Besides, nothing was bad if you knew how they ticked. Sure, the cougar could leave her any second, but she knew that, and she was getting by on her own just fine, sort of. Well, she still ate meals the cat brought her, and followed him everywhere, but she was definately becoming her own wolf.
"I'm not pissed, either. You clearly are unnerved, though. Say, why is that?" She peered at him carefully.
"You always seem overtense when I'm around."

Dak's lips curved up in a genuinely amused smile.
"Why do they live short lives?" He canted his head to the side. "I have blue eyes. Does that mean I'll die young?"
Well... younger than he should, anyways. Lately, when the nights were especially cold, he could almost hear his joint creak in the morning. Time was the worst enemy he'd ever faced.
Dak flicked his ears and the smile dimmed; her questions were hitting far to close to the target. For a moment he was silent, then he grunted and shook his head.
"Coulda fooled me, girl." Maybe she was the kind of woman who was pissed -all- the time, and never realized it? Not that he'd ever heard of that before, but who knew? Most women were enigmas best left alone.
A cool rush of air whispered over his fur and he shivered. It sure could get cold in the shade, even on a summer evening. "I'm not worried about you, if that's what you're hinting at."

"No," she answerd him bluntly. "I've got blue eyes, too. Its just coat color. Most of them are inanely stupid, or if their smart, they do very idiotic things. You'd know if you knew one. The more blue, the worse of you are." Most of them were suicidal, she decided.
Well, glad to know she was fooling someone, apparently most people had found her easy to read as of late. That was never a good sign. She needed to be on her sneakiest and brightest side.
"Nope," she answered cheerfully, her 'dark' mood suddenly lifted now that she was winning the battle again.
"I think you're worried about yourself. I mean, you do look old an' all." She made sure he heard this last bit very well. She wanted to rub it in his face. "But good looking, may I add, you can be old and good looking." She wrinkled her nose. "Too bad you have so many scars, you must be slow, or tangled with too many cougars." That she could sympathize with.
Sure, he could hate them if they'd almost killed him once. Then he had a right. Maybe.

Old? He didn't think he was OLD. Maybe older, a little slower, but nothing that would kill him! At least... he didn't think so. He could easily make up for it in cunning. After all, old age and treachery always beat youth and speed.
Or so he'd been told. He'd never put anything to chance before.
"Can I?" Dak bared his teeth. "Kind of you to allow that." The wolf shook his head and chuckled. Again, with the scars! What did it matter? They always assumed and accused. "Don't judge me, girl."
He paused, regarding her in silence for a moment. Ah... what would it really hurt? He supposed he could tell her, if it would get her off his back.
"You look like someone I knew, that's all." All, and everything.

God he was nasty. .. . so different. She always thought him to be dark and mysterious.
She would have liked that. But he seemed more grumpy and prone to insults. For someone with so many scars. . . that's probably why he had them. Edgy.
"I won't," she told him. Of course, she went right on judging him in her head. He didn't know he was no seer. Or was he? She eyed him skeptically.
If you're a seer, keep the hell out of my mind. Just in case. Just in case.
Someone he new. She caught her tongue and slipped backwards, her voice softening. He must have liked this person, if he was so aggressive towards them. That's what she'd heard. The more you wanted to kill someone, the more you loved them.
She tried an advance, coming just a step closer, her eyes shifting nervously. If he wasn't going to make the first move she would.
"I had a dream about you," she said. "That's why I came."

Yeah. He believed that. Just watching her eye him skeptically told him all he needed to know. She didn't seem like the kind to just... accept a person. Judgmental child.
She was raised by a cougar though; who could expect anything different? Faulty, treacherous, devious, egotistical creatures that they were. Dak grinned. Hypocrisy suited him far too well.
"A dream?" Despite himself, the wolf was intrigued. And disturbed. And faintly repulsed. Dreams were so... intimate. She might look like Tanya, but she was a far cry from the real thing. Blue eyes narrowed, his red splattered ears flickering in uncertainty.
"What did you dream?"
Dreams were usually just dreams. But he'd met more than one magician in the past, and he knew better than to ignore them.

So he hadn't had the same dream, too?
Damn it. Well, there goes that plan. No, Noyama was nothing like Tanya. Probably never would be. She had no idea who this wolf was, but surely wouldn't act like her if she'd been told. Being raised by cats did things to you.
Maybe even she thought she was one in some sense. Maybe not.
She gulped, grimaced, and her head gagged. But still, the feeling rushed up her limbs and to her tail. Such a wonderful feeling, but so repulsing at the same time. What was she doing again?
"I had dreams of you showing me things, places." She frowned at him. "Don't know why, I seemed more fond of then than I actually do." There, that was the best she could do. And she was about ready to let it drop.
Before humilation dropped her. She needed her confidence and it was slipping. She couldn't be blunt about everything, she found.
Not like Yao, or she would have said that if she'd known the wolf.
Yao would simply had replied. 'A sex dream, silly? What'd you think? A huggy, friendly, water party?'

Hah! So she -did- want something then. No one would just walk up to a near-stranger (and one they didn't have good relations to) and discuss a personal dream. Dak glanced at her askance and wondered what it was she wasn't telling him. Why would THAT make her all flustered and upset?
Whatever. He would never understand females.
Too bad this girl looked so much like Tanya. Too bad he couldn't seem to forget her, no matter how hard he tried. Thankfully he hadn't had any dreams.
Not yet, anyways. Never, he hoped. The dark male climbed to his paws and stretched again. Drawing himself up, he glanced once at the surrounding woods, then back to the pink female.
Dak sighed. "Is that all, then?"
