Varying shades of indigo...
This may seem like a random question, but...is there any possible way to join the crew?
I don't think that I've had enough time in this guild to earn it in any way, but it'd be awesome if I could help out with things. I love writing, am an avid reader, and have joined in several role plays. Are these qualifications? Not exactly, but it at least means I'm very active and get on nearly every day. heart Across a silver stream...

I got in by being an active member of the community, at some point Penden invited me, I think a lot of us got in like that but the rest are crew because they run a subforum sized RP, and at that scale you need the authority to effectively control it

If an RP is open or closed, or accepting or not accepting, what does that mean?

Ah! I can answer that! biggrin
Open: The head of the RP is willing to take character profiles. Sometimes they ask for certain characters in the headline, such as "Accepting Male characters only" or something.
Closed: The roleplay has enough characters (or too much), and they don't want anybody else to send in profiles. Same as "Not Accepting".
Accepting: Same as "Open". Send your profiles to the head of the RP and he will tell you if you can join or just simply put your profile on the front page.
Not Accepting: Same as "Closed". The RP guy or gal doesn't want anymore profiles.

Similarly Full means not accepting, and typically the only way to denote that an RP is no longer running is to mark it as Dead, but usually if it's dead there's nobody around to mark it as such.

I have two questions:
1. What does it mean if an RP is both closed and accepting?
2. When a GM requests that you add a character picture to your profile, how can you do so without using a picture of yourself or violating the guild rules?
Thanks in advance. I did check, but I apologize if either of these have already been answered.

it could mean a number of things, my first guess would be that the last time the topic was updated they forgot to remove the previous state
second guess, the RP died and the GM marked it as closed without bothering to do anything else
third guess, rather unlikely, something you run into a lot when looking for a job. "We're not hiring but we are accepting applications" meaning, if you want to turn in a character we'll keep it on record and if an opening pops up and we like you, we'll call.
still, it's probably just confusion.
Honestly all the people I've ever RPed with or for were the sort of people that looked down on pictures in your character. In my opinion if the GM wants you to have a picture, it just says they aren't very good at imaginating, or are expecting a generally low level of quality, ie, not enough detail to imaginate properly. I would look for another game to play but that's just me. Probably your best bet for a picture would be draw it yourself or have it commissioned.

Really just cancel my question. I meant to say how do you start in a RPG but I figured it out. I would like to know though what is the point on making a thread on the people you've made.

XYX_Miss Anarchy_XYX What does it mean if an RP is both closed and accepting? I thought of a fourth possibility: I have seen Open/Closed used as simply descibing whether or not the forum is ready for everyone to post or not, so if the RP is really short (only one or two pages), it may be the GM wants to have enough people to get the RP off to a good start before they start allowing everyone to post. So in general it could be like saying "Come and join, we'll start when we have enough people." I'm sort of new, so I could be all wrong... I have a question too: I'm wondering how much control over the storyline normal characters (not the GM's), are a.) expected to take and b.) normally allowed to take. I'm trying to figure out if some decisions I kind of want to make would be 'out of bounds' or not.

that entirely depends on the GM, sometimes the characters are expected to entirely drive the story by themselves, sometimes the GM is very strict; you should ask the GM

So, how do I start this thing? I don't know my level. I think I'm a level 2 kind of guy, but..is there some kind of test for that or do I just join a rp and leave if it is too tough for me?
