He followed Thals orders and did not press further. But what he didn't understand was that the knights WERE his people, and they loved him dearly like kin, if they did not, they would not help to protect him in battle, or serve by his side at all. When he mentioned Reina, and her being Lains he closed his eyes in protest. His heart wished it was a true statement, but it was not, it couldn't have been further far from the truth.

"She's not mine." he whispered. Reina's breathing was steady and calm, if she wasn't asleep though, she would hear everything they were talking about. I wish she were... A tear threatened to fall from his fair elven eyes but he forced all of them to stay at bay.

"Thal, I may not be as lonely as you, and I may not have gone through everything you have, but, I hurt deeply as well." He locked eyes with the half-giant so he would know his words were true.

Lain couldn't afford for his enemies to know that he was indeed in love with Reina, if they knew, they could use it against him, and instead of him questing to find the queen, he would be searching for the slumbering girl that slept in his arms. He had always wanted to keep her safe, to be there for her, it was no surprise that he felt the way he did about her.

"Thal, you are my brother in arms, and beyond that, you are my friend, you may think what you want of yourself, but it won't change how I perceive you, or anyone of the Round Table for that matter."

In her sleep, Reina could hear the both of them speak to one another, she was not completely in slumber, but in a state of semi consciousness, where she was aware of what was around her, but her body was far too tired to move in its state. Had Thal been so hurt by the humans and giants that it caused him to become withdrawn? Reina knew the same fate, the elves recognized her as a halfbreed, only half of what they were and she would never live up to being like them. The humans laughed at her, because her ears were not as defined as the elves, they were only half elven ears. Most of all, both laughed at her eyes, calling her names, poking and teasing at her, pulling on her hair. Things were different here, she was able to accept herself for who she was, and yet...her birth still confused her, and no one had ever given her answers to that.

The steady sound of Lain's heartbeat was simple, and relaxed her even more, as it played a beat for the crickets to chirp to, and the owls to hoot. Reina was glad she had her friends with her this night, she would not get any sleep otherwise.

Thalgarik nodded. "If only the rest of the world were as kind and understanding. However, that is not the case." He clinched his hands into fists. He knew the ways of the world and the cruelty of men. He recalled their words and their hate. Kind words did not mean very much, as sincere as they might have been.

His eyes focused into Lain's. "I know one thing for certain: I shall find peace when I die." He turned away slightly to gather his thoughts, remaining quiet all the while.

Gah. Gotta go to bed sweatdrop

((Dang I missed so much while I was at my friends place sweatdrop ))

Ryn sat up, yawning, half surprised that he had managed to fall asleep. He stretched, before pushing himself up, and palming his water skin, taking a long draught of the water, and sputtering when he realized how sour it had gotten.

"Disgusting... I'll have to refill it.", He thought, pushing himself to his feet, and glancing at the three knights, walking out of the small clearing. He did not need to intrude on whatever they were discussing, and he knew that once their foes found out that they had escaped, they would be chased all the way to wherever they went.

Carefully he followed the trail left in their rush, and slowly began to reform it, making it less distinct, pouring mud onto the horse tracks, and pulling more brush over the area they had trampled.

After several minutes, he headed back, his crimson, blood stained, leather clothing now splattered with mud. As he walked back he hummed tunelessly.

When he reentered the clearing from behind Lain, he walked up carefully, and silently, before saying from directly behind the knights,"You really don't watch your own backs very well do you?"

"Oh please, keep your criticisms to yourself will you. No one complained when you didn't volunteer to take first watch, and unfortunately we actually did a good job because you aren't dead yet." Lain said without looking at the little boy.

If Ryn was afraid they were being followed, he was indeed very wrong. There was no way someone could of tracked them through the desert because of the ever changing dunes, and the only reason he had been able to was because he knew what direction to head in over the desert.

Someone had inside information about their missions, and Lain was certain there would be Saxon hoards scattered throughout the forest. "Besides, we killed every Saxon in the towns, so there would be no one to follow us." That had been one of the reasons not to light the Inn on fire, it wold attract to much attention in the night sky, and that was why he wanted to kill them all in the Inn, so they could make a clean getaway.

"Do you want me to just pay you now? So you can go on with your life and desist in being an annoyance in mine?" After all, what did Ryn care about the queen, what did he care if this mission was a success, maybe he cared somewhat, but it wasn't enough to keep him from disrespecting the integrity of the Knights. "Your turn to take watch, I'm going to bed."

He lifted Reina and carried her over to where she had been sleeping before, tucking her in and kissing her on the for head before he walked over to his things, made up his bedroll and climbed in. Sleep would come easy now, but he couldn't afford a deep sleep, it would just have to wait, again.

Ryn watched Lain walk away, not answering any of the many questions he had been asked. He sighed, and flicked a knife into his palm, before climbing up into a tree, and sitting in it.

From his perch, he could see every possible way to be attacked, and decided that their was no point in trying to explain his view to the knights. Both he, and them, knew far to little about the other group, and so neither could appreciate the others properly.

Sighing he thought about what his mother had told him just days before she died.

"Ryn. You are being trained to be an Assassin, not only because I am one, and everyone in my family has been one, but also because I know that someday, someone truely important, will have need of your skills. Not everyone knows how an Assassin thinks, or how they can find even the best of people. You must help teach people this, or else we all have failed. Every truely great Assassin must teach someone this at one time or another"

He sighed, before whispering,"But mother.... How am I supposed to teach those who do not wish to learn?"

The rising sun peaked just over the horizon, glinting it's rays into Reina's eyes, warming her face to the touch. Reluctantly, the female warrior opened one eye, and then the other, noting that her moment of sleep had been up, if she wanted it to be or not. She stretched out, looking over to the other two knights, making sure they were both fine before realizing Ryn was not asleep.

Her eyes darted around quickly, she wanted to make sure he was neither in jepordy nor putting themselves at risk. When her eyes fell onto the boy, she heaved a sigh of reliefe and got to her feet, with a bit of sleep in her step.

"Sleep well?" Reina called out to the teenager, shaking some of the leaves off her hair and her clothes. He was different, in his own way as she was. Reina cleared her throat, standing behind him and crossed her arms, mustering up the words to say to him. "Listen, Ryn, as they call you, forgive me for making assumptions about you, I judged you quickly, only because it is hard to trust anyone in this time. To me, you've at least shown, some loyalty to us." Reina stood beside the assasin now, arching her brow before she had one more question on her mind. "This may be none of my buisness, but if the Saxson had offered a higher bounty for us, would you have taken it?"
PostPosted: Tue Aug 21, 2007 10:36 pm

Ryn thought carefully about the question posed by Reina. He knew that initially, he might have, though he doubted that a higher bounty was possible. But now things had changed. He had seen what had become of Seriona((I think I spelt that right)), and had bathed in the blood of the Saxons, alongside the knights. They had become his allies, and ones he did not wish to relinquish, even temporarily.

Quietly he said," I might have... Initially... But now I won't."

He turned to look at Reina, his grey eyes constantly surveying the area around them at the same time, before saying,"I'm not worried by what you may have thought of me. It comes with the job. However I am worried that the Saxons sent an Assassin of such pitiful skills against me. It means they are testing us."

((Serionia))

Lain awoke, the morning sun peeking down from between the tree tops and pleasantly arousing him from his slumber. It had been a descent night for the most part, and the fact that he wasn't dead right now was a good thing.

He stretched his arms out wide and gave a little yawn before standing and surveying the area. He saw Thal sleeping where he'd been simply sitting the night before. And out of the corner of his eye he saw Reina, his mouth curling into s mile, that was until he saw Ryn there as well. He wanted this mission to be over, and once it was, he'd decided he would leave the Knights for good.

He grabbed at his bedroll, pinning it here and there and tyeing it's strings so he could pack it. With a little too much weight behind it he slammed the roll onto the saddle along with the rest of his things. Artemis' lazy eyes looked in his direction. He knew Lain was thinking something important, but he left him too his thoughts, not wanting to pry.

He allowed his master to retie the saddle onto his back and then gave him a loving nudge on the back of his shoulder. Lain did not crack a smile. "Can we go? Someone wake up Thal." He waved his arm toward the slumbering giant before turning his back to the pair and mounting his horse.

Yes, he was certain. Once they rescued the queen, and returned her safely to Camelot, he would leave the Knights, and Camelot for good. He was getting older, and the more he thought about his life, the more of a disappointment it appeared to be.

Reina was glad that Ryn was honest with her, at least, he had been such, and it was honorable. Her ears cought the sound of Lain packing his things, ready to leave, and deemed, right now would be a good time to head forward.

"Yes, we had better go now, before we cause more trouble than needed. Onward for the queen!" She gathered her things, harnessing them to Hades who had an eerie feeling about these woods and mountains. The emotion held in his eye at least gave off that much information. Reina went to Thal, nudging him before standing ontop of his abdomen. "Thal! Wakie wakie, it's time to head out now." She hopped off the half giant, walking steadily towards Hades, mounting him and offered her hand towards Ryn.

"A Camel cannot make the rest of this journey I'm afraid, and I don't think Thal would give you a ride on his back." She laughed a little before reaching over, grabbing the Assasin's arm and pulling him up on Hades. "Let's ride."

"W-wait! I got a horse back at the Inn!", Ryn said, rather nervously, pulling back from Reina's grasp, and turning around, looking for where the horse he had got had gone to. Finally he spotted the black horses back, standing in a large pile of bush.

Running over there, he said,"Cale! Don't go hiding!"

The horse turned towards him, and snorted in an annoyed way, before slowly coming out of the bush. Ryn hopped up, landing on the horse bareback, like he had ridden it the night before, and saying, "All set... Lets go, and save the Queen!"

"Oh right," Reina corrected herself, tapping her chin to wonder what made her forget about that. "I guess I haven't been paying much attention," she admitted. Reina shook her head, smacking her forehead to remind herself not to be so careless, especially now at this moment.

Turning her attention back to their mission, she hussled as fast as Hades would take her, rushing through the woods and hills.
