"Your brains don't see scrambled," she chuckled, "If you'll wait here I left the jar of numbweed and I need to rub some redwort on my hands." She scolded herself for not thinking to so so earlier. Eyeballing the young queen wearily she slipped back to the side lines to grab her jars and a warm wash rag. Shells, you're acting like a nervous apprentice.

She felt justified in pulling her youngest boy, Mathyn from the Weyr, this was no place for children. She'd make a note to tell Mathyn of all the mauling so that he would not feel terribly angry she did not allow him to stand. She'd pulled him from the Weyr when the flu like symptoms started to spread.

Walking back she started to tend to Firyal's wounds, "You're quite lucky." Aleema smiled, "Good as new, you are." She bobbed her head trying to observe and find any other scrapes.

Another mauling? Faranth… Cordel was starting to lose sensation in his hands, thanks to all the numbweed he had been applying earlier. Shards, he hadn’t even had time to wash off his hands. Fumbling around in his bag, he eventually found the bottle of redwort he had stashed away in there. Good. This would help… he sloshed some on his hands and flexed his fingers, trying to get some feeling back.

It was time for another Healer to help out. Thankfully, Cordel had thought ahead to send a request back to Healer Hall for any extra hands. While waiting for the redwort to set in, he moved back over to K’em. “See? This is what happens when Touchings don’t. Lots of bloodshed and chaos,” he said, waving a hand vaguely at the crowd of frightened Candidates.

Lots of panic too, unfortunately, which probably wasn’t helping the dragonets at all. They were extremely sensitive to moods, so… he sighed and rubbed his hands a bit more, finally getting some of the feeling back. “Shards, K’em… this is the bloodbath I was worried about.”

Goran felt himself grimacing as he watched the Queen lunged for--was it that woman(?) he'd had as a roommate?--and miss spectacularly. She didn't go down without a fight, however, and the other girl wasn't so lucky. He could see the wounds the dragonet's claws left from here, grit his teeth unhappily and averted his eyes. Shards, was this all because there was no Touching? Or was the mother the reason for their ferocious temper? He didn't know, but knew it didn't make a difference. Luckily, the girl was being tended to, and Goran could relax some. Slightly.

~

Mine, this is frightening... Ianquith whispered in his mind as though afraid to disturb the ones who were acting so viciously and hurting those for no reason!

J'riar had recoiled when the brown had taken out three of the boys--one being Mal, and that big bloke that had threatened to knock his teeth in. And then the Queen had lunged so ferociously for that girl! "I know, love. We can only sit and hope for the best..." And Shards, he was hoping for the best. Why hadn't they Impressed yet? Had it been because of the premature touching? Or were Theirs... simply not among the Candidates or those in the stands?

"Lucky," Firyal repeated grinning wryly. This was clearly some new definition of the word. The last time she'd checked being trampled by a rampaging dragonet didn't qualify as lucky. At this rate, if she got any luckier she'd be dead. "I suppose so."

She held still as Aleema tended her, her gaze remaining steadfastly on the gold, though she'd moved to the side to make the Healer's task easier. It was obvious she wasn't the person the dragonet wanted, but she couldn't help wanting the little queen to reconsider and return to claim her as her rider. Perverse thought, that.

"Thank you," she said, trying not to sound impatient to be back with the others. She wasn't stupid, but she didn't want to miss her chance because of a few exceedingly painful scratches.

Seeing the angry little queen’s rampage, Westren was suddenly quite grateful that queens did not Impress to boys; he didn’t have to worry about the gold. No, the majority of his attention was still focused on the little – well, the large brown hatchling. Despite the trouble he had already caused, Westren was hoping he would find His. Surely this ferocity stemmed from the fact that there had been no Touching, and surely His would be able to calm him. After all, Westren had never heard of a truly dangerous dragon.

"Oh -shards-," were the first things out of Selachii's mouth as he surfaced closer to shore, "the Hatching, the sharding Hatching, I'm a deadglow!" Swimming for his life, he felt his heart leap up into his throat as he sprang up and onto the beach shale. He hadn't been thinking about it, not at all, except for the part where they'd said people might be mauled to death because a girl touched the eggs before they were ready. Barefoot and dripping, he ran as hard and as fast as he could toward his own little alcove where they'd put the white Candidate robes. This was what he got, he supposed, for ducking off to swim after his chores, and now he'd be wet and sticky and dripping onto the hot sands. The thought, while somewhat unpleasant, was still electrifyingly exciting. What if... He didn't dare hold his breath for it, but wouldn't it be amazing?

Still, when Sela arrived at the Bowl, he was sweating bullets and blowing like a half-winded runnerbeast, and the robe was stuck awkwardly to his still-damp and gawky form, and his hair which had begun to dry in the tropical Ista heat, was sticking out. He'd charged in onto the Hatching sands like his hindparts were on fire, only to find that there were already two! dragonets wandering about. Though his own heart was pounding so hard he thought it might pop, he thought it might stop. What if...?

"I can't watch," K'em muttered, watching anyways. It was a complete horror show.

F'sey, on the other hand, couldn't take his eyes off the unfolding drama. See? This is what happened when eggs weren't touched. They should have taken their chances with Cheoth, he thought grimly. Of course her children were every bit the hellion she was, only they were small, nimble and let loose on the youth of a Weyr. It was good, really. They were obviously handling it well. Grumbling and running a hand through his hair, he glanced up at the stands for C'ren. The greenrider was staying put. Good.

Of course, the dragons weren't.

The Akhal Teke had enough of his sister stealing the show. Growling softly, he flicked his open before closing them again. His tail lashed and the enormous brown glanced around, red eyes meeting a few candidates' gazes before he began to head towards the girls. His would have to wait. Their was an unruly Queen to be dealt with now. Well, if she wanted to be dealt with. And frankly, the dull gold had no such intentions.

Wheeling around, she shoved Kesslan over and made her way through the girls. By now, they all parted quickly, no one wanting to get between Cheoth's daughter and her goal. The bothered hatchling made a soft, growling noise and worked her jaw, eyes still whirling red as she marched out to meet her brother. The crowd held a collective breath as the pair began to face off.

F'sey clenched his fists. "AS SOON AS THEY IMPRESS, THEY NEED TO GET AWAY FROM EACH OTHER," he shouted. They were rivals, born rivals. He'd never seen anything like it, but they needed to be separated, and soon.

Of course, the dragons had no such intentions. It was clear they were going back and forth until suddenly, the gold rose on her hind legs and screeched. The brown bent down, teeth bared as he was forced into some sort of submission.

MINE! MINE! the Queen shrieked. HE IS WRONG. I AM THE GREATEST HERE.

Alambrimine! Tell her to back off! Your Varth is the best, even if he is not a Queen, he is the best! the brown cried, still in the forced submission.

The Queen had none of it. MINE. COME AND GET YOUR ARIOTH. When Hers did not come immediately, Arioth bounced back to her back legs, making sure her brother did not attempt to jostle her out of her position as Queen of the heap. Hers needed to come now.

RINFALA!

The eggs are Hatching. So far a gold and a brown have attacked many. No Impression yet. Astarteth woke her rider out of a sleep. The heat along with many rider duties had given Kallista cause to take a nap. T'ka had not been in the room when she passed out.

Shards, Astar! Could wake me sooner? Kallista replied in an annoyed tone. She tossed on what appeared to be a clean shirt and a pair of pants. Running her hands through her hair a couple of times, she walked outside. Astarteth was there waiting for her.

You need sleep so you do not get ill. Hop on and we will see all the little ones. Though none will be as wonderful as I was. Astarteth replied in her own confident tones.

The pair arrived just in time to see the gold attack another girl and knock her down. Jumping down and sending Astarteth to her wingmates, Kallista looked around and realized there was no available seating. So she leaned against the wall and watched the chaos from up high.

Jessan, for once, was thankful that he was not the closest to the eggs. Both the gold and the brown were vicious little creatures. He had heard mutterings that no Touchings could equal trouble and the former herder wondered if this was what everyone meant by trouble. Thanks to his height, he could see some of the action.

He wondered if his was still hiding, waiting in the eggs for the two siblings to pick their life partner. Many of the other eggs were rocking and shaking. Carefully, Jessan moved towards the sides, though some part of him hoped that the brown would pick him, to wait and see what the others would do.

Firyal watched without too much surprise as the gold claimed Rinfala. The Candidate girl had taken so much interest in this clutch, Firyal almost felt that her attitude had been prophetic. With a queen like that, Firyal almost didn't envy her. Almost. But still, it was better that someone with a temperment like Rinfala's Impressed the ferocious gold than someone whose will would become subordinate to the dragon's. And maybe it would spare Kyllae the most miserable treatment of her life.

She didn't know the boy the brown Impressed to, but she was glad someone had finally Impressed the creature. Perhaps now the Hatching would be less chaotic, she thought to herself as she resumed her place with the other girls. There was no more queen to hope for, but there was still the hope of Impressing a green, which would be better-suited to Firyal anyway, she suspected.

It was unlike anything the blond had ever seen before! Two dragons, clutch mates, facing off like they would fight to the death if their Chosen did not stop them soon! An indrawn breath, and Inaari stepped back further into the group. Such ferocity! It was not a dragon she was sure she could handle, and was becoming more and more sure this one was not for her.

Now, Inaari's eyes scanned the group of girls. Which would run to that little fury and show her love for the first time? Hopefully, that girl moved soon, or this would end badly for two people! Or perhaps the brown's rider would be of a sensible, soothing nature, and would be quicker on his feet!

This hatching was...nothing like the one the girl remembered from turns ago. Luck had granted Merase the chance at watching another hatching, despite the foul rumors circling in the holds tithed to Ista. Someone had thought it wise to touch one of the eggs before time. Turns ago, when she'd been brought by her father to see that glorious spectacle that was a hatching, it might have crossed her mind to do the same thing...but she'd grown since, and despite being a holder, and nothing like bred to the ways of the weyr, she knew that it had been a selfish and foolish act. And now...this scene, which she'd dreamed of for nights as they traveled, her father and she off to trade between the holds as was their way, was nothing like she'd imagined.

Blood splattered the sands, screams of humans and dragons ripped the air. The brown had been huge, but the gold...She wanted to look away, but couldn't bare to. Oh please oh please let them find their partners soon... That's why they were angry, wasn't it? She couldn't know that the dragons had made their choices even as they screamed at each other, and she wrung her hands in a sort of dejected worry.

Down on the sands, Velrun had been quick to dart from the path of the rampaging dragonets. Certainly he'd been keen on getting near the front of the crowd, but he knew an angry dragon when he saw one and wanting nothing to do with either of them. The mustard-colored gold of course he was disinterested in over gender, not just temper, but the brown...Obviously there was going to be some trouble between the two from here out. They looked ready to fight...He shuddered despite himself. Dragon could not fight dragon. Nothing good could come of that, it would be a senseless waste. Eager to see them taken apart, he glanced around. Would no one step up to claim either of them?

Served her right. Kess had guessed at who that Queen was meant for, and stayed a bit too close to the older girl. She'd only a split second of warning, that purposeful charge in their direction [she knew it wasn't for her, after all], and the next moment she was on the ground with an almost inaudible cry of pain.

It was a forceful hit and she worried that something might be broken, though her serious eyes were on Rin as she held the arm she'd landed on close to her chest, scooting away from the pair. This was it. It had to be.

"Yes," Tearing her eyes from the gold and her friend, for only a moment, she sent them to the angry, handsome brown, wondering where his partner was.

Alanna had made an impression -- albeit not the kind that everybody came to the sands to make. Ohhhh no. So this was what happened when there wasn't a touching... and when two siblings were in competition with one another. It was just..jsadlf.

It was only when the Dragons both seemed to be calling for something.. perhaps silently.. that she stopped holding the breath that she'd be unwittingly suffocating herself with. Had they impressed? Were they going to back down and stop mauling everybody now? Maybe?

...
.....

Well, whatever it was, it wasn't her... and frankly Alanna didn't care. She was just thankful as could be that she hadn't suddenly been struck together with one of them. Then again, she may not have cared if she'd made the impression.

Hmm.... Maybe she'd have to ask one of the new (or old) riders how it felt to impress.. because now she was curious. But no, there were still so many dragons who were to hatch... and so much potential horror to go with it.

She'd wait.

--

Shalaera, on the other hand, breathed a sigh of relief as the two dragons seemed to stop battling to call for theirs.

Yes, they had found theirs -- after some effort of course. This was good. Good indeed... Now if everything following it could go along just as cleanly they'd be set.

Terisa blew out a sigh of relief when the brown dragonet took the gold's attention away from the candidates, but it was short lived when she realized that instead of putting the candidates at risk for harm or death, the hatchlings were now putting themselves at risk! Egg shells, couldn't they just impress and go eat like normal hatchlings? She had heard rumors that the mother of the clutch was a rather unruly gold, but she hadn't thought that it would make such an obvious difference in the temperaments of the children! Being at least mostly sure that the two sparring dragonets weren't going to move as much anymore, Terisa tried to relax the muscles that had bunched up in her constant movement around the edge of the group.

Looking to the group of candidates, she really hoped that the new riders of these two dragonets would appear soon and get their hatchlings under control. Turning her eyes to the rest of the eggs, sitting almost in awe of their aggressive siblings, the weaver girl desperately hoped they weren't all like this....

Raedue held his breath. The two dragonets seemed to have given up on mauling the candidates, but it was still a tense situation. As they now seemed intent on going after each other. But..... it seemed strange..... Like they had impressed, and were waiting for new riders to come to them..... He hoped that was the case and then they could get their dragonets out of here where they would stop causing so much trouble.
