Sherry hid her shock by tossing Jake a smile of thanks before ripping into the shadow again.

"Thanks!" He wasn't mocking her was he? No, no, he couldn't be. That last hit had been pretty decent. Nor was there any hint of malice in that smile, either.
Between Armagnac praising her (but still calling for more hits) and Jake flat out encouraging her, Sherry just rolled with it.
Her own grin grew. "And thanks for keeping the beasty off my back."

If Sherry could have heard Chester's concern, she would have mirrored it.
As it was, she wasn't quite sure how to react. This was entirely new and unsettling.
...It didn't help that she was enjoying it.
Sherry laughed, and continued attacking.

Seeing that Sherry was doing just fine, he stopped talking and tried to focus on his defenses.
He had to protect his dear partner!
... He wasn't doing a very good job though.

Seriously. If Sherry knew what Jake was thinking, she would have been concerned. How many times had he told her he didn't care at all?
All she knew was that he was in a good mood and was clearly willing to help her out with this. See. Sherry knew he wasn't that bad.
Armagnac was really in too good of a mood to notice. This was how battle was supposed to be, after all.

She was, wasn't she? She knew it. Armagnac was telling her so, and that meant things were going really well.
Jake was doing a rather good job of protecting her, too. Clearly, this was working out well.

When Sherry thought about it later, and she would think about it later, she would totally blame the battle high. Because clearly, They all had a little bit of it.
Armagnac was happy, Jake was happy and Sherry was hitting like a boss.
