Muse - Mixing it is the best way. Otherwise you get stuck in a rut...

...um. xd ! Back scratching and Halloween costumes...

Sorry, I only posted the main link for credit purposes. Akahoshi posted the useful link.

Ashram - Flash drives, man! Frickin' SWEET ones!

Akahoshi - If they were 1gig, that would be a different matter entirely. I'm not about to drop $75 for a 512, but still...
PostPosted: Tue Jan 10, 2006 7:12 pm

Hoshi>> Thanks for the clarification. 3nodding

AD>> They are quite nice and witty to look at. xd Which one do you want?

EDIT::!! - I haven't said hi to our newest member, so let me take this moment to say Hello! and Welcome to the guild Muse. biggrin

Muse: You're welcome. x3 I'm always here to help, come rain or shine we'll be fine~
Hahah really? I'll give anything for and decent critiques over suck-ups who always constantly say (those morons in Art 1 rolleyes ) "Wow you're art is so good!" gonk Luckily, I have a friend who will gladly give me critiques, and good ones when I ask for it! =D We're lovers of some sort. Yet we're mortal enemies. Does that make sense? It's a paradox!
To me, the person critiquing shouldn't actually have to know how to draw, I think they should have looked at things IRL already that familiarizes someone with.. "Oh, something doesn't look right about the nose or something you know?" Like, someone who can't cook, still can tell what tastes bad. That's my take on it. x3
Gah, I'll never do vectoring, I hear it can drive one insane. And people know I don't need that.~

I usually draw on paper, ink, scan in and color. Or I oekaki, which makes me draw straight on the computer. I've been trying to do complete computer art though.. but I have no patience with the linearts. I use a tablet. x3 I'ts my precious baby.

I love Butterscotch, but I've never had it as a pie. And of course you don't have to choose just one. x3 Lemon meringue is a fave of mine too!!! heart And unlike many of you.. I detest pumpkin pie with a passion. I've eaten too many years of my mom's pumpkin disasters that I'm totally adverse to the taste and REFUSE to touch one.

AD: Bahahah, American Pie. Great movie.~ But I love apple pie too! It's just... comfort food. Some vanilla ice cream with it.. *dies*
Eee thankies for the compliment. x3 I happened upon it pure accident, art suddenly became fun again. O_O heart

I worship that artist! How dare that girl say she drew that! *explodes* evil She deserves to have her brain spooned out and served cold to another idiot. >.>

I WANT FAIRYBIT!!! O_O heart
But I must say.. they look like.. odd dildos.

Memai: People at school say I'm too mean to idiots, but to hell with them, they piss me off! >D Now I'm more subtle.. but it's still apparent. *feels so mean*
Those kind of people, just shouldn't critique. Tsk tsk. I hate eyeballers, they're sooooooo widespread in the Picture Post forum. That poor place. I hope something can cleanse it's bowels of doom someday. cry

Sir Lang: I can't stand blueberries! Or pumpkin pie! We're made to be mortal enemies! rofl heart

QA: Gah, I'm having the sort of the same problem in my Art Class.. except... argh. Okay, my art teacher ALWAYS has the Art 2 class enters the art contests of the PTSA or school contests... it's a requirement. stare And she always has.. suggestions to make. -_- It's like.. okay.. that's what I want to draw, leave it alone.

Damn you and no school. CURSE YOOOOOOO!
Lemon Meringue is goot. x3 And again, you're someone that likes pumpkin pie. NOOOOO. lol

Hahaha, I never did have a problem with Gaia hair.. I did start out with hair different than I have now.. 2 different styles.. but now, I've stuck to this one for like.. 2.5 years of Gaia now. O_O

Akahoshi: Yay, an all pie lover. Go you non-segregating-non-racist-non-picky pie eater you. x333 Ever heard of Weebl and Bob (online flash cartoons)? They're obsessed with pies, little egg thingies, you should go google them and watch. I love them. x3

Shiro: I should check out Rodrigo then. x3 But playing Debussy on the piano is a b***h! Damn advanced level standards.. >.> Yay! Like Akahoshi.. you're a...non-segregating-non-racist-non-picky pie eater. x3

------------------
Gah, I wish I could get on more. It'd eradicate the tedious task of typing out a long response to everyone. gonk

Someone told me I sounded like one of those old ladies that need a hearing aid. All because I said... "HAH? WHA? HUH? HUUUH??" in class. =O

In Japanese class, we're not allowed to say Shut up, or any cuss word of the sort. We can't even say "What the fudge."

Some lovely anecdotes of the day.~

Darkish is OUT for the night. Enjoy lovely walnuts and brownies everyone!

Lang~ AH, HA HA! That's where I foil you yet again. I intentionally spelled Goggle, thinking maybe someone would notice. But since no one did at the time,
I are triumph!

AD~ Um.
I think you're reverting back to the nickname "Alsheimers Disease". I remember the RoomRaiders story from months ago. o_ o

*Whistle.*

Mews~ :'D Of course it's a good thing! And I'm just terrible at describing myself. xD; I always do it wrong. :C
Haha I draw with a mechpencil and a piece of paper. 8D; I'm mouse-retarded and I'm not profficient in photoshop yet. D:

Darkish~ CHICKEN POT PIES.
Once I had a "veggie pot pie" Omg I saw the inside and it was ASSFUDGE GREEN. X_x;;;;
If you think ya got the time, I dare you to try and draw a semi-real life me. xD Or my avi when it has the pink fall emo hair. x)

Memai~ Omg me too! The bass looks soo hawt. :'D And my friend already knows how, so she can give me pointers. x)
We can be our own band. Of just two bass players. Yeaahhh. 8D

GAWSH Gasoc, I'm falling behind in my posting. D:

Wendy - I didn't assume you hen-pecked, just musing. xd

*stares at hands once more* I get as far as the the ring fingers, I rarely use my pinky, I believe. Truth is, the way my hands spread across the letter section, the pinkies would have to reach in to hit keys. My fingers spread, versus a sort of cupped shape, as some do.

Now I strangely miss typewriters...

I'm old fashioned, all pencil, pen, ink, etc. If I use the mouse, it's for pixel work, like little characters. (I had a base for that, even if I did a lot of changes.)

Though my procedure is a little odd. If I'm doing a pic that will be "finished", then first I'll sketch it on any paper I like. Even lined. Sometimes I'll scan it first, then print, if I need to change the size (admittedly rare, mostly just if I want it larger for a print, or to test something), but usually I'll pull out a lightbox and trace over it with ink on the new paper. I used to sketch in pencil first, ink, then erase, but it was such a hassle. Some erasers also erased, or wore down, some inks, depending on the combinations. Some paper gets worn out by the eraser, or some erasers leave smudges/shine the paper. Further, pencil would leave indentations, and if you're coloring with a colored pencil, those lines will show clearly. (Unless you press hard with a prismacolor pencil, but still.)

After that, depending on the paper, and what the sketch is of, decides what I use. Some clothes are better in pencils, some marker. Skin is always best with certain markers or ink. Nature...ink or paint. It's very, very rare these days that one colored drawing uses only one kind of material. Even different brands are better for different things. Regular crayola pencils are great for jeans. Le Plume markers were great for shadows (pity they're hard to find around here, now. *misses them dearly*) I even find uses for old materials. A worn out blue marker? Great for bruises.

What I use the least is chalk. I'm allergic to it. ._.

Personally, I'm not much for art done in some computer program. I like to believe, for myself, that it isn't worth anything on the computer unless I can do it by hand as well. I admit to being a little annoyed at the "computer revolution". Took me years to teach myself tons of little tricks one person could learn to do with a filter in a matter of minutes. xp

I've also got another kind of sketch I call "detailed". These are ones that I try to make more realistic. When I get to the light box, I don't ink outlines. I just start coloring, and I get very picky about details and depth. I've yet to finish one. They take so long that as I continue through it, my style or technique has already changed some. I really should try one once again...

Yume - ... whee

Oh, I'll admit FFX is pretty. Very pretty. Hell, I'd play it again just for the pretty. But someone please shoot Yuna and Tidus.

And if you like it, by all means, enjoy! Doesn't change my dislike and boredom of it. Kingdom Hearts was by far more the better. heart

mmm...thinkgeek.com...my playground. I should get more shirts.

Ashram - If you had meant that, I would've done just that. 3nodding

Will take in mind to seeing "Open Range". *hops on Netflix*

And I need links for the comics, man!

Darkish - Honestly, I'm STILL surprised I never got detention for all the arguments we got into.

I graduated High School, I'd rather not go back. And once I'm able to CHOOSE something, I'll go to college. When you have too many hobbies, it's hard to pick a future.

Mmmm...pumpkin...there's a "Pumpkin Pie" Perry's ice cream. Tastes like pumpkin pie and whipped cream. *droooool*

When I first joined Gaia, it was quite a long time before I changed the hair. True, the choices were much more limited then, and I'm very picky. Then something went down, so I changed the avvie's hair. It stayed for a short while, and the salon arrived. With every new batch, my avvie's hair would change. sweatdrop

My own hair is past the shoulders, slightly wavy, and no bangs. If I get the chance, I often wear a ribbon, too. Fifties style. sweatdrop It'll be a while before that appears around here.

AD >> I read in one of my CG books that they call mixing it up "Tradigital" . Now that's a cool word! xd

And yep...flash driver price too is rich for my blood atm... xp

Ashram >> Nice to meet you! 3nodding

Darkish >> Thanks! And the rival/lover thing really makes for a more intense and exciting relationship. xd

And no, not all good critics need to know how to draw, but they should have the ability to offer something that can be used. "That doesn't look right; it's all wonky" as opposed to "That doesn't look right; the ear is too low on this side.." Yeah...bash it, but tell me why you're doing it so I can fix it. LOL! That's my only beef. wink

Vectoring eludes me... I want to do it, but I can't. sweatdrop It sure would make life simpler if I could. One day, I expect I'll wake up and the lightbulb will go off in my head and I'll be resident expert here in town from trying for so damned long. sweatdrop I was thinking of buying a Wacom Intuos3 (9x12), but wonder if a smaller one is just as good too. I don't want to buy something so big if I don't need to, but it is the biggest one in town, so I naturally assume bigger is better. xd Is that a good tablet brand name too?

Koji >> I am not proficient in Photoshop either. I use Paint Shop Pro 9. I started off learning on Paint Shop Pro 5 a long time ago, so I just kept upgrading. Everyone tells me I need Photo Shop though, so that's why I was going to buy it. Most tutorials online and in books are adapted to Photoshop as well, so I may as well follow the crowd if I want to really learn. It's damned expensive though. sweatdrop

QA >> Is it me or do you look different every time I see you? xd

I was forced to take a keyboarding/typing course in high school (thank God!!) with the whole "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" thing. That was THE most boring course on the planet, but I was ever so thankful for it in University. xp

I like the pen and ink style best too. I thought I was cheating until I got a book in the mail yesterday afternoon telling me that type of artist is called a 'tradigital' artist because they mix the two. Yay! I'm not a cheater!

I draw lightly with a non-photo blue pencil until I get it right, then trace it with my pen. Then I scan it and the blue won't show. It saves on erasers. I've given up on erasing unless I have to. I'm lazy like that. xd I do love the lightbox too for the traditional art that isn't going to be CGed. I like your method. 3nodding

I still do both. I don't find the computer any easier to use (yet) personally. It actually takes me longer than it would by hand. sweatdrop I don't use chalk for the same reason, but I do love coloured conte pencils and the smudger. xp Those are really expensive too. eek Thank God you don't need much. Of course, it's not all that great for crisp colours, but it works awesome for the softer look (imo).

I've always drawn realism and haven't been much of a cartoonist. I really want to learn more about the anime/manga art though. I love to look at it, so why not try it? My goal is to break my habit of trying to make them look real. xp

Ashram - Do you even have to ask? I so want the one that has blood coming from its mouth [for no apparent reason]...

Darkish - And suddenly art became fun again... xd whee Excellent.

I almost had a fit. I've been following Amanda Francis' art since I was...jeez, 15? She didn't deserve that.

xd !!! I hadn't thought of that. How naive of me. Those are, quite obviously funny dildos. That double as flash drives.

Koji - Ok, once again: I know I ranted about this before, but Muse (and QA, for that matter) are new. And we were talking about art theft. And it's really the best/worst story I have. And I expected everyone else to ignore me... (as per usual)...

...argh. Edititzorzed. Ed.

QA - I play for Auron. Maybe Lulu.

Kingdom Hearts was fun. whee Good graphics and gameplay.

Muse - "Tradigital" is a spiffy word. I'll have to remember that one.

Yeah, same here. Gas for my car...or pointless flash drive...? Hm...

Wai! So much to reply to! @_@;;

Muse >> Crits are good, seriously they are. I understand they're there to help, but you know...it's a lie to say that a critique doesn't hurt at all. It does, because you've worked so hard on a piece, trying to go past the limits, and then...someone notices something wrong with the pic @_@ Even if it is something small, it stings gonk

Of course she signed it rolleyes That's what got me so pissy~ Hahaha, I want to create art because I love it X) Nothing beats getting your hands messy with ink and paint, stepping back and admiring your work <3 Popularity helps, of course, but to gain such popularity you need quality artwork first, right? wink

No! I LOVE hearing/typing out rants eek Seriously! It's fun 8D

AD >> Yeah, I remember that rant. I love Amanda's works too! And I still love it X)

Lang >> rofl

QA >> Gah! What a b***h of a teacher >:0 At least, you know...you actually LEARN something in art. We have a discipline teacher for art, and all she does she asks us to TAKE NOTES ABOUT ART gonk gonk gonk

Hurh! Tea cups will now be my weapon of choice heart

Muse...again >> I'm a bit of a 'tradigital' artist myself X) As for tablets...well, I have a small 5.5"x4" one, made by Genius. I don't think brand name really plays into this, just as long as it works fine, then I'll be happy 3nodding

Man-skank fan >> Hurhur, 87 left in my house >:3 Spider Panda's doing a good job xd

Darkish >> I'm a b***h, really. While many people yell out, "SHUT THE ******** UP, a*****e," I'll smile and put on a pleasant tone and go, "Oh, won't you please shut the ******** up, you ignorant wench?" xd Gets 'em everytime heart

Gah! Like I said "It's for practice, not for showcasing". There's nothing wrong with eyeballing, but I rather keep it in a file than in my portfolio rolleyes

Koji >> I like the sound it makes X) So funky 8D

QA...again >> FFX...ugh, seriously. It is pretty, it's very pretty. It's just that the storyline confuses me, it's waaaayyyy over-hyped, you literally play dress up (X_X) and well...I say it's visuals cover its lack for a good story 8D

Pie question >> I like pumpkin, apple, chocolate and lemon meringue pie whee I've always wanted to try cherry though >_>
