Minerva felt a sort of weakness that she had never before known. It was terrible. It was internal. And just when she had resigned herself to the thought that she would be weak and miserable when she died, Draco appeared again to make this hellish death even longer.

"Hello, Minerva. Eat your lnch? Oh, I see you accideantally spilled it." His "s" sounds were long and drawling, like a cold hiss. "Well, I thought you might like to know that we've run out of fresh water. Appears the spring we get it from was dammed up, so that little water you have left in your cell is all you hve. Unless, of course, you were to come out and help me a bit. Then perhaps I could see my way to finding you an alternate source."

What Minerva did next struck her as something vaguely shameful. She brought the water to her mouse, keeping her lips pursed, but still looking like she had drunk at least part of it. "You vile, infantile..." And then, very suddenly, she stopped speaking and looked blankly at Draco as she had seen others do when they'd been given Veritiserum.

Draco grinned wickedly as he motioned to Wormtail to open the cell door. "Well, Minerva. Willing to speak now?"

"No," Minerva answered, in a careful monotone. "But I will." The cogs in her mind were busy at work. She needed a place. Somewhere that seemed reasonable, and far away from people.

Draco laughed coldy. "That's perfectly fine with me. So..." He leaned up against the bars of the cell door. "Where's the wand, Minerva?"

"In a tree," answered Minerva. The answer came to her without much trouble. And she would dearly love to see Draco hacking away at every single tree that he could find. "Embedded in the trunk of a tree."

"On the edge of the Forest," Minerva responded, after some thought. "I do not remember exactly where." She wanted to give Draco a reprimand, but it appeared that her plan was working, and even though she dearly wished to pay homage to her temper just now, it simply would not do.

"Where the centaurs stay," answered McGonagall evenly. "Not the edge near to Hogwarts." Although, in retrospect, it would have been wiser to suggest a place that was further away from the school.

Draco nodded. "You're a fool, you know. Putting the gift so close to the little children. Lucky for you they're on winter holiday, but I daresay they'll have a surprise when they return. Wormtail!" He stepped away from the door, beckoned his servant over, and whispered Muffliato before speaking. "Keep her alive for now. I want to kill her the day before the winter holiday ends. Poor children are going to be shocked when they see their headmistress's fresh corpse greeting them at Platform 9 3/4."

Wormtail laughed, sounding very high-pitched. "They'll be shocked something terrible, my Lord. Very good," he whispered.
Minerva eyed the water. Draco probably wouldn't bother her much any longer, and what harm did Veritiserum do if you were not going to be questioned?

Draco grinned wickedly, flashing his eyes back at McGonagall and waving. "Keep her alive for just a few more days. I have a trip to take." And with a pop, he was gone.

Immediately, Minerva took a sip of the water, feeling slightly dizzy but much more relieved. Wormtail, fascinated by how savage Minerva was behaving, kicked the bowl of gruel towards her, and she gulped that down too.
