When his neighbor nudged Peter, Peter leaned forward. It was by no means a kiss; he rather bumped his lips into Jess and awkwardly stepped back as everyone burst into cheers.
Evelyn, who had some sort of suspicious moisture at the corner of her eyes, began to laugh and held onto Michael's hand tightly, afraid that she was going to start full-on crying.

Jess bumped him back, blinking as she came to her senses. She glanced around like a deer in the headlights for a moment before realizing what had happened. She blushed a bit, looking back at Peter with an embarrassed little smile as she leaned in for another kiss.
Michael cast a sideways glance at his wife, putting his arm around her shoulders and holding her close as he handed her a tissue. "Getting a little choked up?"

Peter smiled very slightly. He didn't know why he felt so nervous. It was just a wedding. That was what he'd been telling himself for the past month or so. Deciding to think about this later, he slipped his arms around Jess with some difficulty, and kissed her properly.
A tear fell, followed by another. "Not at all," Evelyn answered, dabbing away at her eyes. She laughed again, looking up at Michael. "You're going to tease me about this for years and years, aren't you?"

"Oh yeah." Michale smiled and watched as the two walked back down the aisle together, both looking rather dazed. He chuckled to himself and stood up, taking Evelyn by the hand and following the crowd as they filed back inside.

Peter blinked a few times, feeling tremendously confused. There was some sort of dull happiness, too, but he couldn't quite sense it. "What do we do now?" he asked Jess, looking around.
Ray raised his eyebrows as they started to shuffle into the house. "That was a little disappointing."

"I think we get gifts." Jess took his hand and squeezed it tightly, feeling a bit dizzy and overwhelmed from the throng of people congratulating them. "Bu first, I just want to sit."
"Why?" Desiree raised an eyebrow as she entered the packed house. "Nobody died?"

Peter nodded, and he managed to part the sea of people surrounding them. In his tuxedo, he plopped unceremoniously onto the couch.
"No, because they both looked like they were going to pass out," Ray answered, catching sight of Peter and grinning.

Jess sat next to him, leaning on his shoulder and shutting her eyes amidst the din of people chattering. "I feel like I'm in some strange dream."
"And...I think Jess just did." Desiree chuckled and walked towards the buffet table. "They both look exhausted. Probably made themselves so nervous they tired themselves out."

Peter smiled slightly. "Good or bad?" he asked, turning his head to look at her.
Ray nodded. "Jess looks so out of it, it's crazy."

"I know...it's so strange not to see her flitting around around all the blokes." Desiree canted her head to the side as she filled up her plate absentmindedly. "Poor girl. She doesn't look too good."
Jess shrugged. "I'm not sure...it's just odd I suppose." She yawned, feeling extremely exhausted as she leaned against her new husband. A second later, she was fully awake again, sitting bolt upright as she felt a strange sort of pain in her lower abdomen, halfway between a kick and a cramp.

Ray shook his head. "Not at all," he agreed sadly. Jess was almost...not Jess anymore. That was probably for the better, but Ray would have much prefered it if Jess had some sort of moral reawakening than this.
Peter frowned. "Alright there?" he asked. He wouldn't have known what to do if something was wrong, he realized. He didn't read any of the booklets that Jess had heaped upon him.

Desiree didn't see tha Jess had winced, because she had turned away to grab some salad before carrying her plate back outside to one of the tables that had just been set up.
Jess blinked dazedly, pressing her hands to her stomach as she took a few deep breaths. "I'll be fine." She felt another of those little pains and made a small whimpering noise.

Ray hadn't seen either, and followed Desiree outside, vaguely concerned about his friends. It was unusual to think of Jess as a friend, but he supposed that he would have to get used to it now.
Peter straightened up, getting a little nervous now. "Should I...get someone?" he asked, his voice cracking. Wonderful. The first five minutes of marriage and his voice had cracked.

Jess shook her head. "No, no don't. I don't want to make anyone panic." She shut her eyes for a minute and pushed herself off the couch. "I just need to go upstairs and rest for a bit."

Peter looked genuinely worried now. "Is there a reason to panic?" He stood up. "I could just tell Mum to go up with you; she hardly ever gets excited about anything."
