"My father is three hundred and forty years old forever frozen with the countenance of a man of thirty five and the appetites of a man of twenty. It does not surprise me at all that you could not guess the truth of his age; I often wonder myself how he could gain so many years and so little of the wisdom meant to accompany age." Mallory caught the bitterness of his own voice and frowned slightly. He did not wish to bore Dusk with his petty paternal squabbles. He quickly neutralized his expression and the words he spoke. "I am only accustomed to his.... agelessness, for lack of a better word, because I have watched him never change even slightly for all of my life. I am only seventeen and I appear every year of that comparatively very young age."

"My father didn't see a reason to change his ways, no matter how long he lived. So maybe since your father had gotten by for such a long time that he has yet to see a reason for his ways to change." I wiped my eyes of any tears that may have formed in the mention of my father. It was the first time I had spoken of him since his incident. I bit down on my lip as I turned my head away to pick myself back up before I broke down in front of someone who I had recently met. I couldn't let Mallory see how weak I had become so soon.

"Sure, Ill help. But this information leaks out only to those who need to know. Understand?" Franky spoke low. He did not want panic. His master specified so.

" I did not mean to upset you. You must have lost your father, then? I apologize; it must seem overtly cruel that I have my father and cannot appreciate him." Mallory searched his pockets, but he had apparently forgotten his handkerchief. He gently rubbed Dusk's back in slow circles, hoping to offer a little comfort. He did not want to sit in silence, so hesitantly he asked, "What kind of man was he? Have you been without him for very long?"

(after this I'm getting off for the night)

"Of course I understand, I am not as reckless as you may think I am. However, for now I suggest you rest, you'll need a lot of energy for tomorrow." I walked over to the door and unlocked it. I held it open as I waited for Franky, for I did not want him to end up locked outside.

I hadn't imagined that the first time I cried or talked about how I felt about father's death would be with anyone other than Dawn; though she had been fast asleep in her room. "I like to think that he was kind and caring, but in reality he was a hopeless drunk. I don't remember a time when he wasn't guzzling down a bottle of the poison." I began to cry softly, as I turned around and buried my head into Mallory's shoulder.

((Sleep well. I'll edit this post in a sec with my reply))

Mallory gently cradled Dusk in his arms when she began to cry into his shoulder. "Always, we wish to think the best of our loved ones no matter how much they do to prove us wrong." Mallory knew this from experience. He had greatly loved his father as a child and wanted nothing more than he desired Alphonse's approval. Up until three years ago he had done everything in his power to please the man. It was when he was fourteen that he finally realized his father simply could not love him... Dusk had still loved the father she lost. Mallory took a small breath, wondering if he ought to say the words on his mind. Then he thought about how upsetting, how heart wrenching it would have been to him as a child to find his father lost to him and drowned in drink. "You loved him, Dusk. I think he must have returned your love, even if he could not show it. Wherever his soul resides now, I think it would give him joy that you are alive and well. Likely he regrets that he missed so much of you in his drunken state. And he cannot wait to see your smile again." Mallory was not so certain he believed any such thing, but he could believe it if it would comfort this girl when she needed it.

"You may share your thoughts or desires with me when we are alone." she said after thinking for a moment. "But I do not wish to speak of such things in front of the children." she gave him a warm look hoping he would understand. She liked to hear what he had to say. His word choice was so lovely. She put her other hand on to his and blinked.

Alphonse smiles and takes his hand from hers, preferring instead to capture both her hands in his. "You have such lovely hands, mademoiselle. Delicate and soft like twin birds ready to take flight at any moment." He looks down at her hands, running a thumb over one of her palms. "I will of course respect your wishes. Though do not be surprised if these children grow into their own more quickly than you might expect. My boy Mallory is on the cusp of manhood. Perhaps it would be good for him to find a suitable young lady to take the starch out of his spine. I certainly know spending so much of my time with the fairer sex has made me quite relaxed and mellow. In this moment, the greatest stress I am capable of is deciding whether I should first compliment your lovely eyes or that exquisite river of hair. Would that all of life's difficult decisions were so pleasant."

Al listened to him carefully. He was so well spoken, the very sound made her full of happiness. "I prefer to think of them as children." she replied. her speech patterns not nearly as sparkling as his. "Please do not stress over me. You complements are unnecessary. “She looked down at her hands but did not pull them away. "I think that,...I think that you should not try to overwhelm with complements, try just tossing them out during a conversation. That would work better on me." She chuckled and looked up at his eyes.

"You mistake me, Alexia. I never 'try'. If a man must try and ponder and wrack his brain to find something beautiful about the woman he is with, then he is a fool. I meant only to say there are so many lovely parts of you I would be hard pressed to choose any proper order to list them in. But if I overwhelm you, I suppose that I might endeavor to tell you only half of what I think of you." His grin is impossibly wide and his eyes twinkle with enjoyment as they gaze into hers.

He walked through the door, bowing. "Thank you. Im glad I can trust you with this information with the strictest of confidence. If I couldn't well, that would be bad."

I gradually calmed myself down with the help of Mallory's words. I looked up at him, making a poor attempt of a smile? "You think so?" I wanted to be able to believe what Mallory said, his voice was convincing but the look in his eyes were a bit doubt full. He seemed as if he went through rough times with his father; the slight tension in the kitchen could be picked up by anyone who had half a brain. I sat back up so that I was no longer leaning on him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to burden you with this."

"I would assume so." I closed the door behind Franky and made my way down the stairs. Having Al be second in charge, not that I liked to place any type of order on anyone, I figured I would need to talk to her about this urgent news. I walked through each hall of each floor until I made my way to the ground floor, hoping I could find here there. I heard a mummer of two voices as I neared the kitchen, the one I knew was that of Al's. As I entered the kitchen I learned the other voice belonged to Alphonse. I was quite surprised he wasn't chasing after his son for once, nor did I hear their bickering.
"Hello, Alphonse. How are you doing today?" I didn't mean to interupt whatever I had walked in upon.

Mallory smiled faintly. "I would like to believe it. It is something to hold in your heart when the pain threatens to crush it. There is no harm in believing such a thing. If it will comfort you, take heart in it and let no one dissuade you. And please, do not apologize. No one should have to deal with such a loss alone. You have my shoulder and my friendship whenever you have need of them."

Alphonse reluctantly took his eyes from Alexia and turned to see Nathaniel. Ah, what rotten luck. The keeper of Alexia's heartstrings himself, Monsieur Nathaniel Willow. "Bon Jour, Nathaniel. I am in the finest company; how could my day be any more pleasant?"

Al looked up to see Nathanial. She stood from her seat and stepped away from the island. She could tell just by how he was moving that something was up. With out even so much as a second glance at Alphonse she stepped quickly up to him. She stood a few feet in front of him and took her hand in her own. "What's going on?" She asked quietly. She looked concerned and ready to strike into action. "What's happening?" Alexia was smaller than him but seemed to carry her presence in such a way that they were equals.
