So it seemed that the trampled girl was alright, and Canth, still idling perhaps a little closer to the female group than she had been, was free to return her greater observations toward the wild hatchings who-- ... huh, it seemed like they suddenly weren't so wild anymore. Brooding with an aura of wickedness for one another, sure, but not no longer quite as savage.
That... must have meant they'd both impressed, she reasoned, and that meant the maulings-- for now at least-- would come to an end. Surely, their new riders would have enough sense to yank them far away from each other, and in the meanwhile... she would breathe a soft sigh of relief and steel her wit once again to brave the coming onslaught.
Never had she been the type for begging Faranth to grant them mercy, but she almost felt like it was needed now. Two hatchings, too many maulings to date already...
Calm, calm, calm... It had become a mental mantra as she forced her hands behind her back, unaware that they had started to shake.
Chavel was simply relieved to see a lack of further bloodshed on the sands, and yet, at the same time, he was grinning from ear to ear.
"Oh, just look at them down there, Pavo! Isn't it such a beautiful thing? And it seems I'm spot on so far, too..."
The silent blue's eyes merely whirled at his human's commentary, but held his tongue. At least he was smart enough not to go off shrieking and creeling in the stands.

A screech echoed across the sands. MINE! MINE! the Queen shrieked. HE IS WRONG. I AM THE GREATEST HERE.
...Mine? Oh for the love of little green dragons...this couldn't be happening. This wasn't happening.
MINE. COME AND GET YOUR ARIOTH. Rising onto her hind legs, Arioth was having none of this denial s**t. Letting out another shriek, she called for Hers, more insistent this time.
RINFALA!
Rinfala's knees buckled, and it was all she could do to remain standing as her mind was hit with the full force of the firey little queen's Impression. Reaching out for the nearest support, one hand grabbed onto Kesslan's robe as the other reached out for Arioth. "...A-arioth? Are you..."
YES. AND I AM HUNGRY. GET ME TO THE FOOD BEFORE HE GETS IT NOW.

Vaythel blinked, somewhat confused by this. Their rampage was all over in such a flurry, but at least they had Impressed--that was the important part. He looked nervously around at the wounded Candidates, that of which there were many. Had they been trying to outdo each other in the havoc and injuries that they had created? Vaythel shuddered at the thought. Such a dark Gold, anyway--her color matched her entrance, really, dark and vicious.

Denik sighed with relief. It seemed the two hatchlings had finally started to calm down.
He couldn't help but feel a bit worried though. If the first two were so violent, what could be said for the others? After briefly scanning the crowd of candidates, it seemed that most made it out unscathed. Hopefully it remained that way.

Wait, what? Now at the back of the crowd, Mal remembered why he wanted to be near the front. So he could actually see what was going on! Wounded or not, he was still horribly curious about what was happening… the gasps rippled through the crowd like water, and each wave got more confusing as time went on.
Eventually, he realized that the two little vicious dragonets had Impressed. Well, good… now they wouldn’t maul anyone. He sighed in relief and relaxed just slightly. That is, until he heard the name of the newly Impressed Queenrider.
Rinfala.
Rin. Fala. Of all the girls in the Candidates, the queen had chosen someone much like herself in temperament… Mal found himself wondering just what sort of chaos the pair would cause together. Mauled or not, he couldn’t stop himself from smiling a little. At least Aeron had prepared Rin for a bitey dragonet.

Great sharding goodness. Uuni let out a heavy sigh of relief as the dragons turned on each other instead of the people. But, of course, she streaked right through Kess at the same time.
She was sure hers wasn't the only head that turned when K'em's shouts echoed through the sands.
But she rather ignored it. Bravery wasn't her forte; it really, really wasn't. She could practically hear the hisses and the breathing as she stole closer. Bright idea, Uuni, really bright idea.
What had compelled her to do this again? She didn't ask a second time as she made it to where Kess was. With her dragon to deal with, she doubt Rinfala would be any aid at all to the blonde. This was stupid; on so many levels it was stupid.

Ollen held her breath and repeated the mantra searching the crowd for La, she felt like she was caught in a storm without sails. This was so much more intense than she realized it would be. Her heart pounding he watched the queen and brown with interest. Who would impress? Anyone she knew? She crossed her fingers for her friends as she looked about for candidate's faces.
She saw Cordel with a candidate and the reassured her, he was a good fellow, Ahoy's hide was proof. She let her breath out and inhaled slowly. "They're so intense," she muttered to a girl near her, "what a first hatching!"
(anyone can hear Ollen, y/y interaction?)

Kess let out a strained laugh as her robe was tugged, nudging Rin with an elbow as she got to her feet, not wanting to be between the newly impressed gold and her rider. "For Faranth's sake, Rin, go feed your Queen and leave me alone!"
The blonde stumbled back a bit, and possibly would've fallen if it wasn't for bumping into Uuni. A surprised expression on her face and she seemed about to say something entirely different from what came out of her mouth next. "The brown? He hasn't impressed?" Not moving from the physical contact, she tried to ignore her throbbing arm as she looked to the strong male.

Jamusyn leaned over to his father's cousin and whispered in a tense tone. He had literally been clutching his seat when the two eggs broke. Surely a brown and gold dragon were good omens, even if the little creatures seemed to have a mean streak. Shards, was it really necessary to attack so many of the Candidates or to try to attack each other?
Of course, being a holder and from Southern, he would not had known about someone touching the eggs early. The young man in Steward in training clothing would not understand that the Eggs may have craved contact before their big day. That no matter what it took, the little one had to find his or hers. Shaking his head, Jamusyn sighed in relief when it looked like Impression was made. Thank goodness he had not been called to Search. He wasn't sure if anyone in his family had been Searched. "I hope the next ones are not as vicious or there will be no one left for them to Impress too..."
His father's cousin merely shrugged.

Having been watching the beautiful brown with a wary fascination (just in case he needed to dodge- getting caught napping was a very bad idea), Alambri was needless to say surprised when the words echoed in his mind.
:Alambrimine! Tell her to back off! Your Varth is the best, even if he is not a Queen, he is the best!:
Alambri was moving before he'd thought through the words carefully. He was certainly not the sort to be telling a Queen, even a little Queen, off. But his dragon- his dragon!- needed him, and shard it if he wasn't going to move!
"Shh, shh," he murmured, crossing over to Varth and wrapping his arms around his neck. "Of course you're the best, how could you not be the best? Look at you, you're as big as a Bronze, bigger even! You're perfect, just perfect!" The words were spoken in a soft, almost dazed whisper. His mind felt huge, and there was frustration at being forced to bow down, at not being recognized as the best he clearly was, and hunger. Hunger that his little dragon wasn't paying attention to, distracted as he was by his angry sister.
:Varth is best, Varth is big and strong!:
"Yes, yes you are. Very big, very strong. Come on, come away from here, we'll go find you something to eat. You have to mind her, even if you are special, but it's okay, I know you're the best."
Carefully, he coaxed Varth away, back away from his sister, being careful not to get any closer to the irate Gold than he had to. He led him over, to the edge of the sands. There was a table with food somewhere, where... There it was. Still carefully soothing his baby, he drew him along to the table, shooting slightly apologetic glances at the riders Varth had injured in his searching.

Goran sucked in a slow breath as the dragons seemed to face one another, the tension in the air almost overwhelming. And then, without warning, they seemed to have called to their would-be Riders... and the big man blinked with surprise as the Queen attacked one last time before she stood by the girl she had apparently chosen. A slow, exhausted sigh spilled from his lungs, and the man gave his head a shake. So, it'd all gone smoothly... but would the rest of the Hatching go smoothly? Shards, he hoped so; he didn't think he could take another smack like that, at least not as gracefully!
~
Mine... They have Impressed. Ianquith barely said, not sure if she should be happy or not. So many had been hurt... Why had they been so cruel? She just didn't understand it, not at all.
"Shards if I know, love." J'riar rubbed at his eyes tiredly, feeling drained. He was just glad it didn't end any more badly than it had, he supposed! But... that girl was... Rin? He wasn't sure, known he'd seen her around but never actually had spoken to her. Still, he grinned a little. He also didn't recognize the other man, but Shards, there'd be plenty of time for that, now!

... That was exactly what Vera had been hoping to see. Interactions like that, meaningful and complex... but the dragonets were far more angry than they had been at the previous Hatching. She let out a congratulatory cry as the lad that she recognized from before Impressed. "Do you know him?" S'van asked, looking between Alambri and Mal (the latter because he couldn't quite tear his eyes off of his injured friend), a little confused by the direction of Vera's cheering. "He played with Bell the other day. Kept him from running off with my tools." Which, really, was more interaction than she'd really had with any other young man before, barring the Harpers and her cousin.
"Wait. Is that... Rin?" Suddenly, S'van had every reason to be excited as well. He was not very familiar with the girl, but he knew she was involved in the ILA. Awesome! Another queen for the Ista Liberation Army! And such an angry one, too. She was not at all like Reneneth.
--
"Oh no!" Kagiya yelped as the Queen shoved Kesslan over. Was she going to cause more harm? ... And then, quite suddenly, the Brown and the Gold were facing off, and the Gold was screeching! Were the Candidates safe? Shells, were Kagiya and Dolmin safe from their vantage point? But then the pair Impressed Theirs, and the seven Turn old relaxed slightly. "This is sure excitin'," she said, feeling a little smug that she wasn't nearly as afraid as Dolmin. ... Was she?

Merik watched with clenched fists, his mouth hanging open a bit. His thoughts were whirling, but he couldn't seem to make a sound in all the commotion. What was that Brown doing in the girls? Oh Faranth, they weren't going to fight? Did Dragons fight?
A Rider in the stands - he assumed Weyrlingmaster, but had no idea - bellowed out, and the little Queen following suit. Merik flinched and put hands over his ears at her shriek. Everything seemed suddenly quiet, just the two Hatchlings hissing and squabbling and... and Impressed? One of the nearby girls fell to her knees, and said something out loud to the little Gold. He saw her eyes reeling, and could practically hear the response. The young man waited a moment more to make certain the Brown wasn't about to spring, before a grin broke out on his face and he started clapping very vigorously. He couldn't find the Brown's new Rider, but its new calmness made him fairly sure there was one. He felt a little twinge in his gut, but it was no horrible loss. The boy who Impressed that Dragon would have challenging Turns ahead. But good for him, whoever he was. What a huge Dragon that one would be! Merik clapped a little harder, nodding great approval at everyone around him. "What a way to start a Hatching, huh?"

Uuni wouldn't say she caught Kess. It was more like Kess ran into her and Uuni managed to stay standing. Either way, the result was the same.
The look she gave in return, however, was not so calm and easy. "Are you absolutely nuts?" she asked in disbelief. Her voice was low, and a bit strained from worry.
"If he hasn't, I don't know if he is. He was right close to you, I don't thi--" She shook her head and let out a frustrated sound. "Why am I explaining this to you? Come on, let's get out of this mess before you're clutching more than your arm." She didn't want to take Kess too far, but she was giving no option as she backpedaled towards the edge of the crowd parted for the young, angry dragons.
Red eyes were well enough warning to stay away.

"GET THEM OFF THE SANDS. NOW," F'sey roared. He motioned for both newly made riders. "And keep them separate!" He couldn't stress it enough. By Faranth, the beasts had faced off and it should be completely obvious they needed to be kept as far apart as possible. "You!" He pointed to the newly made Queenrider. "Bring her here and feed her. Don't let her talk you into overfeeding," he warned.
Once he was sure the gold and her rider were going to be okay, he fixed his eyes on the brownrider. He had, in the end, been submissive, but that didn't mean he wasn't mad as hell now. Scowl plastered on his face, the redhead motioned for the other newly made rider. "You. Over here. Feed him. And under no circumstance do I want these two near each other!" They didn't need anymore causalities.
As the crowd watched the lively pair, the Arabian Egg began to rock, more or less unnoticed. It was not nearly as violent as its siblings, nor as attention demanding. The mauled were still complaining and Varth and Arioth were still doing their show-grabbing thing, and the Arabian Egg seemed to be alright with that. Or did it?
