Heh, seems I never introduced myself, so here goes... I'm Julia, a sophomore, turning 15 in a couple weeks. I don't know all that much about philosophy, but what I do know interests me greatly 3nodding

Hi, I'm cyphgenic and am an admin at Gaia. I studied philosophy at UC Santa Cruz but also wrote code while there, too.
Currently, I am reading PF Strawson's article, "Truth," in _Analysis_, vol. 9, no. 6 (June 1949), pp.83-97.
Here are the philosophical questions that continue to be very present in my life:
1) If I can be happy by doing something unethical, is that okay?
2) When is a friendship worth mending? When is a friendship worth ending?
3) How does technology alter the meaning of the words "friendship," "meaning," and "privacy"?
I'm very honored to be let into this guild.
^_^

Welcome!
Those are some questions I'm sure everyone here asks themselves each and every day (I know I've asked myself about ethics over and over several times in a day).
I encourage you to start threads for any that aren't already addressed! biggrin

Welcome! I do hope I'm one of the kind figments, though I'm sure sometimes I flicker between kind and insanely evil. So pay no attention to that! =D
I also hope you enjoy whatever time you spend here!

Being but a figment, it's not like you-or I-have any control over what you or I do. His subconscious will play the puppetmaster till displeased with the play. 'ello, ladies, gentlemen, hermaphrodites, and whatever else may be out there. I am pleased to introduce Figment No. 57684902, with the following 'stats' chosen by a randomized number generator. Name: Iris Age: 13 Grade: 9th
Yeppers. With INTERNET CONNECTION. So booyah, figmentiles. I'm fairly amateurish at philosophy, but I've thought about it a lot. Yes. Right.

Hello everyone!
I'm currently a freshman in college, and adamantly searching for my religious direction. Before I started taking my Asian Religions class this semester I believed that all religions were the same and therefore I believed in all of them. Now I believe that all religions are the same but each person finds the one that calls to them at that particular time in their life. I find nothing wrong with changing your religion several times in your lifetime.
Well, I love philosophy and have been reading from a very young age, I literally inhale books! So if anyone finds a good book at any time, just lemme know.
Oh and I am very into anything spiritual, so heads up!

My name is Amanda, I am nineteen and I work in a pizza place. I have an avid interest for psychology and the inner workings of peoples minds. I have conducted many small scale investigations on human tendencies, strictly observational. I finally got into college, but the only one I can afford right now is a community college, taking Japanese, German and sign language.
I am interested in philosophy in a practical sense, as it applies to people, and as we can use it for our lives. My favorite philosopher is Parmenides, although my only edjucation on philosophy was a class I snuck into every day at a local university for almost a whole symester.
The professor looked at me one day, made a comment to me on a paper he was handing back and said: "You aren't in my class, are you?" I stared at him, upset that he figured it out (though wasn't surprised) and nodded. His face lit up and he said "OK!" really loudly.
Apparently he thought he was nuts. He couldn't find me in his gradebook, and it was almost as if I didn't exist and he was really questioning whether or not I was an elaborate halucination.
He was very pleased to have me there and be physically real and everything, it was great!

Haha! That is great! I'd take that as a compliment...making someone think they were possibly insane...heh.
And welcome! =D

My gaian name has an interesting history behind it... my real name is Troy.
Anyway, for beginners, I'm an atheistic existentialist...
I just recently finished reading Albert Camus' The Stranger, and am close to finishing the Satanic Bible...
I've got many books on my list that I plan on reading, including the classics such as Plato's Republic, Hesiod's (sp???) Theogony...
I'm also currently working on Ovid's Metormorphoses...
I'm a sophmore in High-School and am pretty much a huge philosophy geek. I love hearing other peoples points of view on things when it comes to philosophy.
