At least Calder got a A for effort, though he never understood why that was since A didn't start the word 'effort'. Still, he was winding up master of sea spearing and had hit it more times then he could count. He sure taught those waves who was boss.

"If I don't hit this beasty soon, I'm going to jump off this boat, go over there, and punch it in the face." He whispered, though Jove might have heard. "...and then I'll poke it's eyes out, break it's skull, tear it's skin off, and let the fish have at it." He aimed and missed, and frowned. This game was rigged! He was a kelpie! He should be able to kill a big fish thing!

The jolting of the boat woke him, and much like the other students Draven had gone up to the deck to see what there was to see.

One student in the clutches of a large tentacle beast. Cricket handing out harpoons. Orders to attack the beast. When not taking into account the danger their classmate was in, it was all pretty cool. Seriously, how often would he be handed a harpoon while on a ship being attacked by a tentacle beast?

The first tentacle being stuck had knocked him off his feet, but a short recovery later and he was ready to give it a try. Taking aim as best as he could, he hurled his harpoon at the thrashing tentacles.

He wasn't overly surprised at his miss. He'd watched the other students for a few moments and sticking the tentacles down did look difficult. So. He hauled his harpoon back to him, and prepared to give it another go. It was the only choice he had, wasn't it?

Attempting to aim, darn moving targets!, he gave it another try.

Jove watched Calder make several more attempts at the creature, while he struggled to haul his own harpoon back from a particularly long throw that sent it flying off board. In that time they were also joined by another student the pup wasn't too familiar with.

The little wisp slipped as the boat was rocked by one large tentacle, landing on the deck and almost tripping Calder before scrambling back up and taking aim again.

Calder was aiming when the boat swayed, rocking to the side and nearly sending him falling over. Bracing himself, Calder planted his hooves in place and waited to take aim. Just as he was about to fire, Jove hit his legs and sent Calder's aim off, sending his arrow flying off. He watched it plunk in the water. "Would have been lucky if it hit." He muttered to himself before watching Jove. "Hey dog boil." What was his name again? He heard others say it. See, this was why he shouldn't have been avoiding people. "Clove!" That was it. Like Clover. "Try thinking the squid is something you REALLY hate. That's what I'm doing." Calder reeled in his arrow.

After getting his arrow back, he was getting rather good at preparing the harpoon. Click. Snap. Pull. Clip in place. Aim. Fire. It was the actual hitting part that he hadn't gotten down. He tried to recall if there were any archers in his family but none came to mind. Maybe there was a reason for that. "I think my harpoon is defective." He said as his arrow flew up in the air and straight into the waves beside the squid.

If you fail, try again. If you failed more than a billion times, curse. Calder stopped to mutter another line of obscenities in thick Scottish and even a mingling of what sounded like short neighs and clipped whinnies as he jerked the rope and pulled his arrow back in.

Jove frowned. He was not a dried, scented spice. Although he supposed it could have been worse. Calder could have called him Puppy like Ren did on occasion, and there was little Jove disliked more than being called a puppy. He frowned more at the kelpie's advice, perhaps he should ask Lizzy how she aimed, since imagining the squid as something he hated was not doing the white haired boil much good.

Thankfully the pup was too quiet to actually voice that observation. All Calder got was a huff and a funny look before he made another attempt at the tentacles.

Draven had to catch himself as the boat swayed. In times like these, footing was important. He watched the other students and their attempts, hoping someone would nail another tentacle down. Cricket had said they needed 4, right?

'Try and try again.' This was one of those times where that saying more than relevant, he thought, as he took aim. To (almost complete) surprise, he actually hit!

"I got one!" he yelled. "I di-" Now was not the time for yelling. Now it was time to grab onto something-for the boat rocked a bit as the beast thrashed about.

Jove almost fell over again as the giant squid flailed around, two tentacles now firmly pinned to the deck. As he regained his balance he was glad Alessa had not joined the fight. It would be hard to keep an eye on her while also fighting this creature, and there was still a long way to go before they could rescue their shipmate. With a huff of exertion he readied his harpoon again, and sent it flying in a nearby tentacle's direction.

"Yay, good job!" She yelled at Draven, giving him a quick thumbs up before flailing a little to keep her balance as the whole boat started to rock; the harpoons were pinning down the giant squid well, but it was also causing the poor boat to move way too much for her liking... While Nurse Cricket had shown that the boat was sturdy despite its outward appearance, part of her was still frightened of it breaking apart and effectively tossing her into the ocean.

"Come on, just a few more...!" She nodded at Calder and Jove in what she hoped was an encouraging tone before turning to look at the stairs leading to below deck, wondering what the rest of their shipmates were up to... They needed more help up here! Holding on tightly to the railing of the boat and trying her best not to get thrown overboard by the squid's thrashing, she turned her attention back to the both boils who were still trying to pin down a tentacle.

"You can do it!"

Considering the lack of emergencies upon their ship, as well as the lovely dream the boil was having of a certain pretty little futakuchi-oonna, Inuoe Seiji had just not been very willing to get up to see what all the excitement was about on deck. He had pillows now, and he'd pulled one over his head after the ship had made it's violent lurch. Rolling over and falling back to sleep almost immediately.

Not until he noticed a distinct lack of whisp beside him did he stir, lifting the pillow to stare blearily at the spot where Jove had been when he fell asleep. Generally speaking, the little pup couldn't get in TOO much trouble, but he HAD fallen over board once, and there was an awful lot of racket going on upstairs. If anything were to happen... It was just best to get up and go check.

Climbing the stairs in a decidedly shirtless state, the boil gave a loud yawn as he reached the top, arms stretching over his head. Then he saw tentacles. "What the ******** is that?" He damn near yelled it as dropped automatically into something a little closer to a defensive stance the, noticing the harpoons, glanced around himself wildly for one of his own. He grabbed one, sprinting over to the edge only to stumble forward as the ship gave another great lurch as someone nailed one of the flailing limbs to the side of it.

Scrambling back to his feet, he headed straight for Jove's side, gave the pup a rather hasty once over to make sure he was ok, then launched his own harpoon at the.. squid? Missing it completely in his rush. "Damn."

He reeled it back in for another toss, completely unaware that one of his fellow students was currently in the beast's grasp, having Jack knew what being done to him. (Tentacle rape anyone?)

The pup scowled. So now Seiji decided to wake up and help out... Jove wouldn't admit it but he was a bit more confident now that the older ghost was giving it a shot as well. After all, Seiji was bigger and taller, and had muscles and whatnot, and could even throw a pillow with decent aim. Surely that squid didn't stand a chance now!

He brandished his harpoon as a tentacle waved overhead, and made a lunge to stab another one nearby.

"Two down!" He returned the thumbs up to Lizzy with one hand, and held on to the rail of the boat with the other. Keeping a good hold on the ship seemed like a good idea.

"Get it! You can do it!" he joined in the cheering on of the boils trying to pin the remaining tentacles. He was glad to see another boil had joined the fray, they needed all the help they could get.
