He tensed at her approach but remained still, holding the broom close before she leaned in. Again, the smell of shampoo. Head and Shoulders. Something else though. It drove him a bit nuts that he couldn't pinpoint it down.
Then she leaned in and spoke. What came was surprising, but after all this time, it should have been expected. A question.
His expression went soft, and he breathed out, before he too whispered back to her. Saying a lot, but ending up not really saying anything of real worth. But there was an answer all the same.
Looking down for just a moment, he glanced back up to read her expression.

At the end of it all, Rin just looked hurt and confused. She shook her head with a frown that struggled to conceal the true hurt bubbling underneath. It hurt so much more than any frown could ever express. She turned away and started to leave, glancing back at Melvin over her shoulder. At the end of it all, she had her answer. Even if it formed so many more questions. Questions she wasn't going to waste her time any more trying to find answers to. The look in her eyes faded and then she left; leaving the greenhouse to Melvin's whims. She couldn't deal with any of it right now. Probably never again. Right now she was sure that it was never again.
Enjoy your nice clean floors Melvin.

He stood, thumb rubbing the handle of the broom, and waited as the door shut and all was quiet.
Well, you made a mess of it.
He sighed, looking around the entire greenhouse and at last at the closed door. "Not one easily cleaned up either."
