Jess forced herself to take a sip, looking up at her with a pained expression. "How do you know? I-ooow." She placed the cup on the bedside table and rubbed her stomach gently.

"It's to be expected," Evelyn said dismissively. "Besides, your neck's as tight as a drum. Believe me, you'll be able to tell when you're in labor."

Jess nodded slowly, laying back on the pillow and breathing deeply. It was still hurting but she felt a little at ease that she was at least not going to miss her own wedding by being at St. Mungo's. "It's been hurting all week. My back too." She shut her eyes and tried her best to relax. "Where's Peter?"

"Downstairs. I shooed him away. He was hovering over you much too much. Would you like me to fetch him?" asked Evelyn, rising.

Jess nodded. "He must be worried. I want him to see that everything is alright." The pain was finally beginning to subside, but the kicks were still feeling rather strong and in rapid succession, as if the baby had four feet instead of two.

Evelyn nodded. "He's probably at the bottom of the stairs. I won't be even a moment," she promised. She had hardly left the room when Peter rushed in. "Are you alright? What happened? Mum laughed at me when I...are you alright?" he asked again, rather helplessly.

Jess patted the bed next to her, taking his hand to make him sit. "I'll be fine. Your mum says it's just stress. Most likely from the wedding and everything." She smiled at him, stroking the back of his hand with her thumb. "We'll be fine."

Peter looked at Jess expectantly. Something was ticking in his mind, and it had begun to tick more and more urgently today. It was almost more of a hum than a tick. "Now?"

"Well now..." Jess took Petter's hand and placed it on her stomach. "Now we have Gwen." She looked up at him happily. "Not to mention the whole married thing."

"Yeah. That too." It had just dawned on Peter that Jess was using 'we' and 'us' a lot more often now. He wasn't quite sure how he felt about that.
