Cala sighed. "My daughter and her husband were out for a run one night, back home in Montana. Jem and Lilly got into an argument over some boy or something, apparently it was a bad one because Lilly ran off. But there were hunters nearby, and they caught sight of Jem and took her down. Brant tried to stop them but they got him as well. Turns out Lilly knew one of the hunters, he'd chatted her up about wild mountain lions, she thought he was a conservationist. But turns out he just wanted a cougar rug." Cala shook her head. "Hasn't even been a month since their death.

Dain covered his face with one of his hands. "Oh my god..." He knew what it was like to be orphaned but he had never had to deal with anything like that. His parents died from influenza not hunters.

Cala shook her head, "You didn't know sugar and I doubt she would have told you. She's never been the talkative one. And this one is my fault. I sent you down there so she wouldn't be alone." Cala smiled guiltily.

Cala smiled, "She just had a strange way of showing it. She normally doesn't talk to anyone, even when they make her want to boil over. The fact that she yells at you is amazing frankly. That girl has a shell as tough as nails."
