mamarita II Lioness II mamarita That's good that you are contributing to your sister's Thanksgiving. Are you going to volunteer to help her if she needs any help? (that's what sisters do you know lol) And good luck with the pretzels..Are you going to honey dip them like they do at Auntie Annes? Oh of course I'll help her! We usually do a lot of the day-of cooking together, but everyone brings a side dish or dessert that can be made ahead of time as well. As for the pretzels, my sister gave me a few different 'finishes' to try. One of them is honey dipped, but I tend to like plain salted the best, so we'll see. Does your family have any fun/unique Thanksgiving traditions? When my mom was alive, we celebrated her birthday on Thanksgiving, regardless of the date because she was born on Thanksgiving. Then, after my little sister got married, we all used to go to my brother-in-law's cousin's house for a mixed family Thanksgiving- it's a huge 40person thing. But this year, my daughter decided that she wants to start her own Thanksgiving in the new house, plus the fact we now live 2.5hrs away from the rest of the big family. So, it's my daughter, me, the son-in-law(to be) and their friends that have no family here in Columbus. It's going to be really nice! My mother always insisted that no one was to be alone on Thanksgiving, so that's how we are too! I like that - no one being alone on Thanksgiving. Our dinner is usually about a 7-12 person event, depending on who can manage to get there, and who is bringing their significant other/extended family.

Hmmm... I wonder what the odds of generating two random numbers out of 6000 in sequence are o.o;

Menu is made up 3-4 days before Thanksgiving and shopping done! Make sure you have plenty of ice in the freezer 1.Pies/cakes/desserts made day before. If you are planning on whipped topping- have it in the house! 2.Turkey goes in oven before noon, the dressing is in casserole at same time ready to bake. (Casserole baked/microwaved according to predetermined schedule) 3.Potatoes get peeled and cut, put in cold water to be cooked later. 4. Any fresh veggies are prepared and kept in cold water for cooking later. 5.Table is set up and plates/silverware/glasses out. If we are serving buffet style, they are put out of way so they aren't in way when we finish cooking and prepare kitchen for buffet serving. 6.Relishes like cranberry sauce, pickles, olives are put in serving dishes and stored in refrigerator until dinner -If making Iced Tea- make the Tea and put in Refrigerator to cool down 7.1 hour before dinner- potatoes put on to cook, veggies put on stove and started, -Turkey should be done, take from oven to rest in pan before carving- This is good time for baking anything else that needs to be baked, otherwise use oven to keep things warm 8. If making rolls in oven start them now, when done, place in bowl that has a towel in it to keep rolls warm 9. Finish cooking veggies, whip the potatoes THEN carve the turkey. KEEP THE OVEN ON WARM (200) TO KEEP EVERYTHING WARM 10. If serving buffet style, set up plates, food, and have silverware/napkins at the end for people to get before heading to table (or have silverware/napkins at the table) If serving family style at the table, have table set, and serve food at the table. I Don't Recommend Carving Turkey at the Table.. It's messy and knives slip and can cut, plus Electric knives work so much better in the kitchen!
