Laitue - Very sad, indeed. You wouldn't believe the arguments we get into over it. People actually consider it a matter of intelligence rather than preference.

Yes! Soda = soda fountains = 50s!

The hell? Who gets away with crap like that? You should mug him at the end of the day for it.

QA - Um, I'll try...? No digital camera, though. sweatdrop

It's always been my lifelong dream to be a backup flailer...

axel - You didn't hear this from me, but...I...also almost cried. Almost. My tear ducts considered the idea with a good deal of severity.

You're very welcome! xd I wouldn't have recommended it if it weren't so awesome.

Iyou - xd ! heart It's an honor!

EDIT: Has anyone else noticed the alarming number of English majors/teachers who can't spell? Just a random observation.

OK, that example is embarrassing at ANY level. o.O But, really. I don't understand why someone would major in English if they don't care enough to use it properly. What good is knowing the major literary works of the last century if one is unable to spell "literary"?

...tch.

or writing "could of" when the right way to say it is "could have" ?!?! DAMMIT WTF?!?! scream

erhmm...Hello kiddies...I simply forgot to push the shiny "reply" button, but I've been post-stalking you all (somewhat, actually ninja )

AD :: You're right, stupid me, Of course you can't see the connection. Maybe we should have had Faramir hold a Keytar, instead of a wailing Axe, AND THEN everything would have made sense. xd (especially considering the Trogdor track was made in an almost 8-bit musical fashion xd )

and dammit, YOU SHOULD be published...hell, I know I'm never getting published because a) I'm in Puerto Rico, and b) my bachelors wasn't something particularly interesting like AD's Psych major.... just lousy electrical engineering with concentration in computers xp

I could of have taken something like communications, but my social worker at high sucked mucho a**! DX

Iyou :: sad that really sucks! crying also make sure next time to view his comments... they usually tend to say if he's a good person when it comes to delivering goods in right condition or not. 3nodding

Tenkou :: I know! crying sales = revenues = getting a pat on the back for a "good job" by the regional manager gonk ... why did I ever leave my job at the music retail store and end up being a freakin' security guard? crying ...

oh...that's right....we get to have GUNZ!!!12!!! (lyke, fo' realz yo! ;D)

*is promptly administered a LEAD FACIALâ„¢ by Langley, who's lurking in the murky shadows of the under...somethingorother...of GASOC* gonk heart exclaim

and no, but now that I know it has two of my favorite drinks, I'm definetly ordering that next time xd (yes, bacardi 151 + blue curacao FTW! heart )

and yeah, I've been told by people that I abuse too much the emotes in here rolleyes

SODA VS POP Issue::

Sadly in Puerto Rico, people call soda either soda, coke or pepsi without even making sure which one they pick...I mean, GODDAMMIT GODDAMMIT ********!!!! scream you either CALL it Soda, or choose to stick with a brand! YOU DO NOT CALL "Coke" PEPSI! or even call "pepsi" to a bottle of COKE! scream

yes, apparently I'm fiery tonight... it seems that criminality's too high in puerto rico, since there's already 40 deaths so far in the year caused by gunshots and gang-related activity (20 deaths higher than last year by this same date) ...and Puerto Rico's about to activate the National Guard to help police in "hotspot" zones... rolleyes yeah, as if... they're most likely gonna cause an even bigger mess...with GUNZ!!! gonk

Shiro - But... I did check his feedback! He had 15 rated transactions, all positive. gonk

Oh well. If worse comes to worse and I have to completely pay for the repairs by myself, I'm still getting a pretty good deal. Le sigh. sweatdrop

Oh, and everyone go congratulate Shiro in his journal for winning Week 2 of Jakobo's writing prompts, and in general for being an awesome guy! whee

Iyou :: Then, it's most likely he's being an a** and procrastinating about. stare

I just hope all that gamecube problem can get solved a.s.a.p. sad it's not fun seeing you use up 80 dollars and not get what you paid for .__.

........ eek exclaim oh no you didn't--!!! gonk

sweatdrop well, I didn't want to make it feel like I was rubbing it in people's faces, which is why I linked to post 1 of Jakobo's journal ... Even so, I still believe some other entries were better than mine sweatdrop

Oh, come on. Of course I'm going to read the rest of the reading prompt journals. xp And I beg to differ - your entry was wonderful.

Ugh, I know... the whole Gamecube thing infuriates me. Oh well.

Speaking of infuriating, I'm having trouble with part of a drawing I'm doing. If anyone's feeling especially critique-y, could you do me a favor and head over to the art critique thread? crying

All right, I have a question for everyone living in the Western Hemisphere. It's been a topic of intense debate among my friends and the more I ask, the more trouble it creates. So, I'd like to pose it to a more international audience:

Should the term "American" refer to a citizen of the United States of America or an inhabitant of North America or South America? Dictionary.com says both; the Associated Press says the first.

I happen to agree with the Associated Press.

When I say I'm American, I'm not referring to my location in the Western Hemisphere. The word is in the title of my country; thus, I am American (and embarrassed to be such, but that's irrelevant to this discussion).

That said, it makes no sense to me that ANYONE living in North or South America would also be "American." In fact, it earns a big ol' "Rrrreeeehhhh?!" Mexicans are Mexicans, Canadians are Canadians, Americans are Americans. This isn't the "a square is also a rectangle; but not all rectangles are squares" bullshit of geometry.

Thoughts?

You know, I'm inclined to agree with you AD. I mean, it just makes more sense. o_O;

Eh, when talking to people online whose nationality is unknown to me, I usually say "I'm from the US" rather than "I'm American" just to be safe.

You do make a good point, though. Do any other countries in North or South America actually have America in their names? I'm a little bit fuzzy on my geography.

From an international perspective, it might interest you to know that in Japanese, the word for a person from the US is "Amerika-jin." ("-jin" just meaning person.) So... even if we Americans/USA-ans can't agree on it, we're still Americans to Japanese. xd

Iyou :: .__.; okay then, can't argue with you now can it? xd

Tenkou :: the incorrectness of it is part of Gaia's anti-lawsuit department handling various tasks such as misspelling references, kicking little kids, and paying off nosy parents ninja *SONOTTRUE*

but seriously, they did it in order to not take from this worlds actual mythology and create mythos within the Gaian Realm...after all, even though we see it as a forum it is actually a game.

and I just realized 99% of this guild is comprised of people who just don't give a ******** about it since they forever will see it as a forum regardless of how good I make my points across xd

and as for AD's question... I'll have to disect completely the question into iddy bitty parts to explain WHY "America" is one thing and "American" is another...

Besides North and South Americas, there's also CENTRAL America (which people in the U.S. consider it to be either Mexico or Panama. Shame on you geographically-challenged citizens of the U.S. xd ) oh and Central America is comprised of ALL the islands in the Caribbean as well as all the land between Mexico all the way down to Panama.

okay, now that THAT'S settled, it's stupid how Columbus "rediscovered" what is now known as America, and what does it have to show HIS accomplishment? a country called "Colombia"

okay, that was way off point, Still, NONE of the countries, be it in central or south america, or even Canada call themselves "of America" because it is an understatement. If your name were "Katie Hellington" you wouldn't call yourself "Katie Hellington of New Hampshire" you just call yourself Katie Hellington. the only reason anyone would state from where they are is if there is more than one of you with the same name and last name... and here comes the Good Ol' Ruskies (which I love whee ... not because I'm a communist thankyouverymuch stare )

U.S. and U.S.S.R. ... since people could be confused at this, wouldn't you need to add something so people wouldn't confuse you? ... so you add "of America" creating the acronym "U.S.A."

and then we have U.S.A. and U.S.S.R. 3nodding

it so happens that the R at the end of U.S.S.R. means "Russia" thus they became "Russians" and the A at the end of the U.S.A. became America, thus the term "Americans" comes into term.

Frankly and Technically speaking, anyone who was born in any part of the "Americas" is an "American" ... but the term was more often coined for all people born in the United States. Also, you have to wonder how could the Americans come up with United States? does the United KINGDOM ring any bells? biggrin the only problem is that Americans never got around to naming their country. and because they never got around to naming their country, in reality U.S. is possibly the only Nameless Country to date.

No. U.S.A. or United States of America or even "America" is not the name of your country. And no, North America comprised 49 out of the 50 states + Canada (remember kiddies, Alaska's to the west of Canada)U.S.A. is a nameless country. Why? Well, when George Washington was in power he could have decided to become a king and people would have followed him without question, but he didn't want to create an empire, which was the reason they escaped a bit over a hundred years earlier from the Brits.

Now, another thing...WHY is it that if Christopher Columbus rediscovered "America" is it named "America"? well guys, look no further than Amerigo Vespucci, who again re-discovered "America". And why do I say "re-discovered"? simple, the Natives were here first. it was their land first and foremost. So therefore "discovering" is an incorrect term since "America" wasn't lost, just unknown to ignorant folk back in Europe in the 1400-1500's. It was Vespucci who did make the connection that it wasn't Asia, and that it extended much further that South America, I'll give him that. but the Natives knew it all along. rolleyes

ok, so in summary U.S. got it's colony name from the Brits (U.K.), but added "America" to become "independent" and later on became "Americans" when they dealt with the "Russians" and other Europeans in WWI, WWII and the Cold War. It still doesn't detract from the point that U.S. is nameless, because Britain might also be known as U.K. worldwide, but they're called "British" from their country's name. One other reason American's could be called "Americans" is because they possess Lands outside of their territory (such as Alaska and Hawaii which count as "states")

did I lose all of you in thought? or did I only made more questrions for you to answer?

you lost me, shiro, but only because my brain is utterly crushed from 70+ hours of "i know this is late and by default there is a late fee but can i get a full refund anyway?"
you are very insightful and you make very good points. 3nodding

i think i agree with aydee. granted, i have never thought about it much, but it does make sense to me that we are called reflects what country we live in. because yes, that's why terms like Canadians and Russians exist.

i wish i had these conversations with my friends. gonk
