York smiled at his partner's joke. "I do indeed!" he replied, flicking his tail back. I'll move the boxes after I'm finished," he added.
He finished his dinner and put his dishes in the sink. Glancing at them, he decided to clean them himself. He didn't want to be a bother and the boxes were heavy. They could wait while he finished this chore for D. Before we know it, the bowls will probably be kits, he thought. I wonder what they'll be like? We'll have to name them, raise them, give them a good and stable home...how will we do that? I don't know anything about raising kits!
York pulled the plug in the sink, allowing the soapy suds to go down the drain and drying his paws on a towel. He trotted to the second bedroom after peering in quickly at the waiting bowls. We'll meet that hurdle when it comes. We're first time parents, of course we don't know how to raise kits! With D as my partner, we'll do just fine. "Right," he said to no one in particular. "Let's finish this!" He picked up the next box and got to the serious business of distributing the clutter to its right and proper places.

D was already working on the bed and had it half done. He finished up and then remembered he needed to do the dishes and went into the kitchen and looked in the sink. "You did the dishes?" he called to York.
He didn't mind really, it was just unusual. To D, York just wasn't really cut out for keeping up with household chores. He remembered the condition of several apartments they'd lived in previously before he'd figured out to separate from the helmet. They were the usually in the state you expected to find a confirmed bachelor's home in.
D silently hoped that at least one kit picked up his cleaning habits. Although if they did tear the apartment up he'd have something to do everyday....
D snorted and shook his head, as if he didn't have enough to do looking after one fox, now he'd have three...but strangely that didn't bother him all that much.
Anything worth doing, is worth doing well...and if it just so happens to be for York and....our children...then its worth doing even better... he thought to himself.

"Yes, I did," York replied. "I didn't want to, well...I didn't want to give you too much work." He shuffled his paws guiltily. D had done so much for him; how could he ever repay his mate? "Is there anything I can do for you?" he asked. "I've got the boxes put away, I've washed the dishes..." As he said it, he began to feel foolish. There wasn't much to do, and there wasn't much that D required. He sighed. "That sounded stupid, didn't it?" he asked.
The room was coming along well. It seemed neater, the dust a little clearer; the bed was made and the boxes that had originally cluttered the room were now stuffed into closets. If York knew kits--and he didn't know them that well, he was willing to admit--they would either leave the closets alone or plunge into the boxes with abandon. He hoped fervently that if they did try the latter, that they wouldn't ask any questions or get into trouble, that they would put everything back as neatly as it had been stored originally.
Things have changed over the past few days. What little of my world I thought was stable has turned topsy-turvy--how much more will change? What will stay the way it has been? He smiled to himself. Do I want it to remain stable for the rest of my life?

D went back into the room over to York and smiled at him shaking his head. "No, no it didn't. You...you just forgot...I like it when you forget what I am." he said quietly putting his head against York's chest. "It means a lot to me."
D let his body relax and looked over the room from his position against his partner's chest. They'd probably have to get somethings eventually...an area rug, things that suited the kits personalities once they emerged, but for now it would do as it was.
"I think we're done in here." he said softly. "And for the day...unless you've thought of something..." he mumbled the last part and gently rubbed his head against York.

York smiled. "I like forgetting what you are, too. And it's very easy, you know. You're different...and I like that. Have I told you how much I like that?" he added jokingly. He glanced around the former spare room.
So many memories...they had only just moved into this apartment, what, a week? Maybe two? ago, and yet this room already held memories for him. Of the day that his world turned upside down. Of perhaps the most significant day in his life--besides the day he realized what D meant to him. It wasn't entirely perfect, as the ghosts of the past and the future paced the bare floor, but there was little else they could do.
"You're right," York murmured. "There isn't anything left to do...now we just wait."

D snickered and flicked York with his tail. "You may have mentioned it once or twice." he stopped and nuzzled York again. "I love you."
D had picked up on the preoccupation of York's mind and instinct had flipped him into comfort mode. He looked up at York over his tiny glasses, green eyes bright. "Love me?" he asked not realizing how open ended that question sounded. He gave his partner a half smile and then rubbed his head against York's chest again almost purring.

York turned to gaze at D softly. "With all my heart," he murmured. "With every fiber of my being and every breath in my body. D...I can't find the words to accurately tell you how much I adore you and how lucky I feel to be with you. So until the words are invented, I guess I have no choice but to settle with three time honored words: I love you." He leaned down and kissed D, feeling his heart race and his breath come quick. This was what was meant, and what would be, as long as York had the power to keep it so, that was what would be. Forever.

The months had passed in a flurry of activity. The girls had grown and moved out long ago, and things had settled down into the routines that had long kept York and D occupied. That was until she'd shown up. She of violet eyes and blonde curls. Still beautiful by most standards, but all crazy. York's former partner, Carolina.
D still felt a flash of jealous rage whenever she was mentioned. He was still unsure how she'd found them. But she had...and then seduced York, his York...
D murmured in his "sleep" and clung closer to York. Things were still a little awkward but D knew his partner loved him...even if their had been bowls...and they were now in possession of Carolina and her AI, and although they had been mistakes, D couldn't help but feel bad for the kits now under the rule of the AI and their crazy mother.
A pounding at the door startled D from his standby. He kicked back on and moved into high alert. He instantly moved and retrieved the assault rifle from under the bed and then woke York and thrust it into his lovers paws. He then got his pistol and listened for the banging again.

He wasn't glad to see her back. She had crashed into their life like an anvil through rice paper. An irrational part of York hated Carolina, but the rest of him realized that there was nothing that could be done. Once again a Melissa had tried to get between them, but once again they had weathered it out.
But it wasn't the way that Cary had gotten him drunk that bothered him now, nor the fact that they had had children. It was the fact that their three sons now lived in a cramped, crowded apartment with Cary and her AIs. Rho and Ayin were...evil. He hated using so naive and simplistic a term as evil, but there was no other way to describe them. Abusive, cruel, possessive.
They wouldn't let him raise Lyon. Little Lyon, the youngest. Sometimes York saw his kidnapped son in the shop. He was so frightened, so young and vulnerable. He had only known Lyon as a bowl, but nonetheless he missed him terribly. He missed all his sons, but the youngest the most.
Eyes still closed, York nuzzled D drowsily, arms locked around his partner's warmth. D was a comfort. Thank god that D was back...he didn't know what he would do alone in this apartment. York purred in his sleep as D clung tightly to him. The idyllic calm was rudely interrupted by the sound of impatient paws on the door. York sat bolt upright as D woke him up and shoved the rifle into his paws.
The pounding came again. Cautiously York padded into the front room and stood beside the door. "Yes?" he called out cautiously.

The kit stood in the hallway of the rather decrepit apartment building. He couldn't believe that his alleged father actually lived here...it was a wreck. He pounded on the door again and snarled. Where they deaf or something? How could anyone miss him pounding on the door. "********..." he swore under his breath. His ears twitched as a voice came from the other side. "Let me in you moron! Goddamn what does it take to get the ******** door open!?" he said impatiently. Screw being nice...He didn't really need them...he just needed somewhere to hide.
D cautiously followed York to the door. The pistol steady in his paws just in case. He was slightly surprised when the voice that came through was childlike...only with language that only adults should use.
"York...?" D said hesitantly unsure of what to do for once.

York's eyebrows shot up at the voice. It was younger than he expected--but the language could be right for the authorities. However, unless one of them had shrunk miraculously overnight... "Sorry, whoever you are," he replied. "But I'm used to not letting strangers into my apartment randomly." He turned to D quickly. "I think I know who it is," he hissed. Holding the rifle with one paw, he slowly undid the numerous locks on the door that he had installed for extra security and opened the door.
As he had suspected, a kit stood there. A rather familiar kit. "I might have known," York sighed, looking at his middle son. "Come in," he said softly, shutting the door firmly behind him and replacing the locks.

Raleigh glared up and then slipped into the apartment. "About ******** time..." he said taking off his helmet and seating it on the table in the living room. He then looked over at York with incriminating green eyes and brown hair that fell in soft curls around his face. His eyes lit upon the rifle and he rolled his eyes and snorted. "Paranoid are we? What the ******** is wrong with you? I was banging on that damn door for 10 minutes! Nice of you to answer!" he said ignoring D completely.
D shuffled slightly and looked between his partner and his middle son. He didn't know much about Raleigh...only that this was the unhappy one...not to mention coarse and rude...He couldn't help but wonder if York had been anything like that as a kit, as he really couldn't see the extent of rebelliousness coming from just his mother.
"York..." D said hesitantly flicking the safety back on his pistol and pushing up his glasses.

York winced inwardly at Raleigh's tone of voice. He remembered it from a long time ago, and it had come from his own throat, leveled at parents who argued and hated each other...I've become my own parents, he thought guiltily past a lump in his throat. "Yes, I'm paranoid," York said, setting the rifle down and crossing his arms across his chest. "So would you be if there was a price on any information about you. I hear insistent knocking on the door at night and I think it's the authorities coming to arrest me. That's how I've survived for the past five or so years--by being paranoid." He sighed. His arguments were probably falling on deaf ears anyway.
York picked the rifle back up and took it back to its hiding place in the bedroom. "Yes, D?" he asked as he returned to the main room.

Raleigh rolled his eyes. "Whatever..." he said turning to look at his helmet. He didn't know why he was here...or really how he'd even found this place. It was so damn far off the radar...the only thing he did know was that we wasn't and couldn't go back to that apartment...nine foxes in one apartment was insane...especially when six were kits and two were sadistic.
He watched York head back towards the bedroom he assumed he shared with his lover. The kit finally decided to take a peek at the fox that so entranced his "father", Raleigh refused to think of York in definite terms the same as Cary...they weren't parents...they'd had sex and created life...but they weren't parents...
Raleigh slid his eyes over the small black and green male and couldn't exactly understand it...D didn't appear to be anything overly special...just undersized and very bookish...especially with the glasses perched on the end of his nose. Raleigh shook his head...so this was why his life was ******** AI....
D held the pistol loosely in one paw watching his partner return the rifle to the place under the bed. He had more than one question he wanted to ask first and deciding which was actually first was difficult. He sighed and finally settled on York himself. Even when he was trying, York always came first. "Are you alright?" he asked quietly. He knew this must be a shock...one of his and her children showing up in the middle of the night...and worse not the one he wanted to appear on his doorstep...
D looked up at York, eyes full of concern. "Do you need anything?" he asked.

York sighed. "I'm fine," he murmured softly. "I'm just shocked." He glanced at Raleigh. "You know, if Rho and Ayin find out you're here, the three of us are in very deep...trouble," he muttered. With a rueful smile, he shook his head and flicked his tail, mentally bracing himself for the storm that would be coming soon. Raleigh would probably swear his head off and talk about how he didn't give a s**t about anyone else.
Slowly, York sank into a chair at the table. "Sit down, Raleigh," he murmured wearily before turning back to D. "Yeah, I need a better life," he said with a hollow laugh. "And a lot less stress. Sorry, Raleigh, you've just shocked me. I didn't expect to see one of my sons here." Not you, he added mentally, swallowing the ball of emotion gathering in his throat.
