Alex felt something, and realised that it was Desina, clutching his hand. He blushed.
Lucky it's so bright here that it's hard to see...
Alex couldn't help but laugh at this. Even in death, or whatever the hell this was, he was still more concerned with trivial matters than the big picture.
"At least it's better than Hell." he muttered, more to himself.

He tried to clear his mind to think. So did the light kill us and now were in some screwed-up afterlife, or are we inside whatever devoured us?

"You'd think if this was Limbo," Alex said while walking around aimlessly with Desina, "there'd be more people here. I think we're still alive."

To that question, Alex had no serious answer. But then he replied with a scenario that he had often thought about when he was in his philosophical mode, which had been pretty much all the time after he had started taking medication.
"Well maybe that's it. Maybe we're the last two people alive. What if this is like the new earth? How would we cope with these surroundings? How would we survive? Could we survive if we were just flung into some plane of existence we weren't familiar with?" he paused, to catch his breath, and went on, surprised he was discussing his ideas to someone he still didn't know all that well. "You know what's funny? The people deemed by society to be the "best" are actually the ones who would break down in this scenario. It's the ones who are different that would survive. Us wolves, who percieve things differently.
Alex was becoming more and more exhausted with every step, and in turn it was becoming harder to form coherent sentances. It seemed that wherever they walked, it was still the same burning whiteness all around them.
When it boils down to it, he thought, I think I prefer the old earth.

"I guess we weren't really going anywhere, anyway." Alex said, and sat down. It felt like his mind was racing, and with it his body was tiring.
"That's a good idea." Alex said in reply to Desina's previous question. "But there's one problem: how the hell did we get to the sun? Did we teleport?" he paused, before adding, "I was about to say that teleportation doesn't exist, but after today, I'm willing to believe in the existence of anything."
At that, Alex fell to the ground, unconscious.

An indeterminable amount of time passed, and Alex woke up where he had been before.
He had been hoping that this was all some strange dream, and that when he woke up there would have been no explosion, no deaths, and none of this weird Limbo place, or whatever it was.
Apparently not.
He noticed Desina lying next to him, asleep. He tried to get up, but decided against it.
After all, where is there to go?" he thought bleakly, and tried to get back to sleep, but could not. So he spent the next while thinking about Desina.
What is it about her, he wondered, that draws me to her? Her looks? No. I mean, she's pretty attractive, but that alone can't be it. Her personality? I barely know her. The fact that she's a wolf? I know lots of wolves. he sighed. Maybe it was simply a combination of the three. In any case, he couldn't stop thinking about her and and nothing else, which was an amazing feat considering their current circumstances.

For a horrible second, Alex thought Desina was awake, and had been listening to every word he had been saying.
Then he realised he hadn't said anything, and that she was just talking in her sleep.
Wait a minute, does she like me? Or is this the same feeling I have for her?
Are we both in...some sort of bond?

Alex laughed a hollow laugh.
"What do we do about food?" he asked her, feeling his sanity drip away. "Or water? How do we survive here?" Alex laughed once more, and put his hands to his face. "Desina, have you ever been in love?" he asked, several seconds later.
