Gil was rather pleased that Ezra was going with him. Not only did he simply like the companionship but the human youth could explain things he did not understand. Like this tractor like vehicle, this metal basket on wheels. He led the way through the forest toward the lake. It was a beautiful morning, warm though not yet hot, with strident birdsong from every leafy bough and the buzz and hum from a myriad of insects. Something scuttled away into the undergrowth at their approach, uncertain about the human even though he was with the angel. Despite everything seeming so perfect though Gil could sense something. He felt unsettled somehow. As they came to the large forest clearing where the small lake was fed by a trickling stream, he could see what was in fact a mini-digger. There was other equipment, too, and a couple of men in hardhats, one with a clipboard making notes and talking with his colleague. Gil tucked his wings in close and narrowed his eyes on the men warily. He looked to Ezra. "Do you know what they're doing?" he asked, thinking perhaps the youthful human would understand what was going on from the bizarre items and outfits.

"Construction? Building, on my land? I think not!" He was about to spread his wings wide and bring down a bolt of lightening on the men but he hesitated and rethought. That may upset Ezra. These were other humans, after all. He should inquire as to their intention, perhaps if he merely told them to leave then they would do so peaceably? He strolled forward quite determinedly, looking not a force to be reckoned with. "You men! What are you doing on my land? I demand you cease whatever you're doing and depart at once!" The two men turned and stared. The one with the clipboard stepped forward. "We're just sampling and surveying at the moment. We've authority to be here. This isn't your land. It belonged to some guy way back but he'll be long dead now. Notices were posted in both local and national newspapers requesting anyone with a legal claim to the property to come forward. No one did. If you're a relative you're too late, should've taken it up with the council months ago. This place is being turned into a holiday park." Gil scowled and shook his head. "This is my property. I bought it a long time ago. I have the paperwork that proves it - deeds? Leave now or I'll not be responsible for what happens to you!" The second man came forward to back up his work colleague. "Back off, man. If you've a beef take it up with the council." he told him. Gil looked totally confused. "I don't understand a word you say." He suddenly hurled a lightening bolt at the small digger which burst into flames at once and then an icy beam to put it out just as quickly. The two men dropped what they were holding and fled. "Well, that's that dealt with" Gil replied naively. "Shall we enjoy a walk now? I may have creatures to calm that were unsettled by this."

They would keep coming back? Couldn't he just dispose of them then? Gil sighed and shook his head. "So because of your family's wealth and status with humans you can speak to this mayor person and get them to leave the forest alone?" He'd do it Ezra's way for now. But if that failed, he'd have to just get rid of this mayor and all the other humans in the town. He wouldn't hesitate to do so if he really must to protect the forest.

"I don't like to leave the forest, I don't like having to speak to people" Gil replied. "So yes, I'd be grateful if you took care of it. I will give you all of my paperwork to show him." He strolled back toward the house with Ezra. "I check on them most days. They're doing just fine. She comes quite close to the house in the early evening so you'll see her with her young one." He raked a hand through his long hair and then he hooked Ezra's arm with his. "I've seen the fawn's father a couple of times. He's not so tame or trusting as the does are but you're calm and quiet, they recognise you're no threat, so he may let you see him."

Gil chuckled softly to himself when Ezra asked if it was 'an angel thing'. He nodded. "I would know because of that but it's easy enough for a human to know as well, from behaviour" he replied. "The stag is very dominant and territorial, this doe is part of his special little harem, he doesn't allow any of the other bucks to mate with her. He checks on her now and then. She'll be rejoining the herd soon, any day now." They came to the house. Gil opened the door, which he'd not bothered locking. "What is a holiday resort anyway?" he asked out of curiosity.

Gil smiled. "She won't be too far away. The other side of the forest. They come away from the herd when they're close to birthing then return a few days after. I will show you where the herd graze if you've a mind to go and watch them sometimes" he told Ezra. He took off his shirt and threw it over a chair as he walked into the living room then stretched his wings wide. "Well, small or large, there will be no resort or whatever it's called here. You can be sure of that, one way or another. Let's talk of more pleasant things. What would you like to discuss?" n He flopped down on the couch and looked to Ezra with a lazy grin. He had no idea what they might find in common to talk about but there had to be some discourse they would both enjoy.

Gil laughed. "You're quite right. I hate modern technology" he replied with a smile. "I've been practicing with the cooker. I realised that if I'm to provide you with a good home and the foods you like I'd need to make a few adjustments. You would have cried with laughter I think if you'd seen my first efforts. It is very easy to burn food with that monster."
