"I don't think it matters," Evelyn said after a moment, studying her son. Peter seemed to hesitate for a split second in the doorway, and then began walking towards them. After some deliberation, Evelyn stood up and started towards the house. "Make sure that you come inside, dear," she called. "And don't spend too long in the rain." On her way inside, she gave Peter a very encouraging, remarkably motherly smile.
Peter rubbed the back of his neck. He couldn't bring himself to smile, and he swallowed. "You...you've married an idiot."

Jess smiled a little, dabbing at her eyes. "I know. But that was my choice." She rubbed her stomach, feeling Gwen dancing along with the patter of raindrops on top of her. "I...I never meant to nag you."
Michael was waiting with his wand to dry off his wife when she entered the house. After getting off all the water, he brought her towards the window and wrapped his arms around her waist, watching outside with her. "You think they're going to drive each other completely bonza like we do?"

"It wasn't nagging," Peter answered, sitting down next to her. "I shouldn't have said all that. I didn't mean it." He shook his head. "Not one word."
Evelyn, who had a good feeling about how this would turn out, smiled and kissed Michael on the cheek. "Undoubtedly."

Jess blinked, trying to get the water out of her eyes. "I'm just worried about you is all. I don't want you to end up hating your life and hating me and Gwen and everyone. You know I still hate myself all the time for going and getting pregnant. I just don't want the feeling to be mutual."

Peter nodded soberly. "You know, I don't think you mean that." Almost shyly, he kissed Jess on the cheek. "And as for me, I love both you, so no worries there." Well, according to Michael, anyway. And the main thing now was to make Jess feel better.

Jess sighed, looking down at her now empty hand. "I'm sorry I ran out. I've just been so cooped up lately I suppose it all just got to me."

"You mean I got to you," corrected Peter, standing up. "I don't blame you in the least." He helped her up. "The ring's on the table in the landing. Oh, and...I...er, I threw Darts out the window."

"What?" Jess's eyes widened as she glanced up at the clouds. "You know it's going to take forever to dry him off now." She sighed, rubbing her stomach as she whistled over the sound of the rain. "Darts, come over here!" A small, sopping wet shape flew out from one of the trees, looking rather weighed down from the water. Darts flopped down on the ground, rolling to Jess's feet. "Darts, you're disgraceful."

Peter looked up. "I think we all are," he said, looking at Jess and breaking into a grin. And if Jess could look like a mess, there was really no telling what he looked like, even if he had only been out for about five minutes. "Let's get out of the rain."

"Sound like a plan." Jess was feeling very uncomfortable in the abdominal region at the moment, not to metion the fact that she was now shivering. She nudged Darts with her foot and got him to his feet. "Inside." Watching the sopping featherball hop along towards the house, Jess grinned before wincing slightly at a cramping feeling in her stomach. Most likely those fake contractions again.

Peter felt bad again, and led the way back. Evelyn and Michael wrapped them both in towels the second they came through the front door, and Peter shook his hair out like a dog, flecking all three of them in water.

"Hey now, no need to get us even wetter." Jess pulled the towel around her drying off her arms and her hair. "I need to lay down I think. My back is killing me." Not to mention those periodic cramps.

Peter nodded. "That's fine. I'll be up after dinner," he told Jess, shooting a jet of hot steam at her clothes and drying them off. "Honest."

Jess nodded, kissing him before making her way upstairs.
"So? I assume things went well?" Michael took a seat at the table again, flicking his wand at the sink to pour a glass a water for the two of them. "Apparently she forgave you."

Peter nodded, and he finally started on his chicken. "Apparantly," he agreed. "I thought she would be madder, really. And all of a sudden, she started apologizing." He looked rather surprised. "As though it were her fault that I'm slow."
