Vera knew that talking about this would probably make her cry, but there was no point keeping her from clearing her name now.
"I'd like to tell you. About that child-Cyril Hamilton. I was nursery governess to him. He was forbidden to swim out far. One day, when my attention was distracted, he started off. I swam after him...I couldn't reach him in time...it was awful...But it wasn't my fault. At the inquest the Coroner exonerated me. And his mother-she was so kind. If even she didn't blame me, why should-why should I be accused of this? No...it's not fair..." Vera lapsed into silence, concentrating on not breaking down.
((Quotes straight from the book are always fun! Whee! XD))

Sir Lawrence nodded to Ms. Claythrone, "Thank you, Ms. Claythrone... six have cleared their names... I still await a truthful answer from four others..." He walked over to the bar and quickly filled a shot glass with some whiskey. He then brought the shot glass full of whiskey back to the chair and he sat down calmly as he waited for the others to give their replies to him. He took some small sips of his whiskey, not wanting to drink it all too quickly.

Dr. Armstrong, this time showing a firmness that one would not promptly believe he possessed, shook his head. "I'm most bewildered by the whole matter," he said, now controlled. "The name meant nothing to me. What was it - Clees? Close? I really can't remember having a patient of that name, or being connected with a death in any way. The thing's a complete mystery to me. Of course, it might've been a long time ago, possibly be one of my operation cases in the hospital. They come too late, so many of these people; then, when the patient dies, they always assume it's the surgeon's fault. I should take this opportunity to remind you all that doctors are not car dealers - we do not give guarantees."
"Nevertheless, the message was certainly shocking to all of us", he nodded discretely at Mrs. Rogers, and continued in a serious tone. "You do recall, sir, that according to the voice we are somehow prisoners in this place..." He sighed, thinking to himself now. "Drunk - that's what it was - drunk... And I operated! Nerves all to pieces - hands shaking. I killed her, all right. Poor devil - elderly woman - simple job if I'd been sober. But who could have known about it - after all these years?"

Sir Lawrence glanced at Armstrong and nodded, "Thank you, Dr. Armstrong... I'm guessing that then it is better to take up nerve cases instead of surgeries... some give up drinking all together..." He had come to realize that Armstrong did not drink like most of the others, which was kind of strange. He then turned to Captain Lombard and General MacKenzie waiting for answers from them... he had already given up on Ms. Brent's answer... she would give it when she was ready. He took another sip of his whiskey as he stared at the others.

Sir Lawrence stood up and glanced at Mrs. Rogers. He asked her curiously, "Is there anyone else here besides everyone in this room, Mrs. Rogers?"
Mrs. Rogers shook her head lightly, "I'm afraid not, sir... everyone is here that is supposed to be here and this is the only house on the island, sir..."
Sir Lawrence's voice started to sound a little more worried now as he continued to asked questions of Mrs. Rogers, "There are boats on the island so that we can leave, right?"
Mrs. Rogers shook her head lightly, "No sir... the ships that brought everyone over are not here anymore... the captain brought them back to the mainland..."
Sir Lawrence stared at Mrs. Rogers in disbelief, "No boats?! How strange... I guess we will just have to telephone the mainland so that they can send some ships to get us off the island."
Mrs. Rogers sighed and stared down at the ground, "I'm afraid that there is no telephone in the house... I have checked many times before."
Sir Lawrence gasped in fear as he was realizing that... "So we are to be cut of from the rest of the world?... How is that possible?..." He sat down on the chair again and continued to drink the whiskey, instead of sips though, he took larger gulps of it.

((Sorry ya all lost me))
Mr. Rogers had been sitting quietly thinking. He went to an old painting and moved it to the side, reveling a safe with the combination eched onto it. Useing the combination he retracted a bad and a letter- as he read his face grew grim

Mrs. Rogers looked back weakly at her husband and whispered to him, "What' that, Thomas?" She was talking about the strange letter that he was holding in his hand.

He turned over the bag-bricks, stones, metal bars. He read grimly "This is the weight of your guilt-guilt that will crush you, and to save themselfs from guilt...one of your own will kill you"
