"..What artifact?" Candace asked with clear suspicion. Two of her Mists were taken now. She cast a worried look to Lance before clearing her throat and turning back to the..quartet with a gentle smile. "I'd love to take you home, sweetheart."

There was a lot of significant details lost on Milo, like the bleeding and the artifact being mentioned. He was mostly just going on with what everyone else was saying to divulge what was going on, not to mention the really creepy way these guys were talking now. Honestly, in every episode that dealt with body doubles, it always boiled down to personality differences (and with Retsu's case, his reversed maneuvers and clothing).
Milo blinked owlishly for a moment when the shot was fired squarely at the Hunter-acting-weird. Hey wait, since when was Szczeosny here? And since when did he pronounce his 'w's'.

America had been a bit preoccupied calming down Stryker who was flustered and a bit scandalized being linked up with another weapon. Neither of them were quite sure what exactly it meant for a weapon to be linked up with another like that, and the debate ended up being just as awful and weirdly embarrassing as one of her uncles' sex talks.
The weapon still wasn't entirely relaxed when hunters began disappearing and reappearing, acting all creepy when they resurfaced. Pandora's action had her nodding in approval. "Home isn't some sort of creepy way of saying you want us to die is it? Because I'm not drinking that Kool-aid."

s**t was going down, and this time maybe it wasn't tentacles but....
"Jesus Ian, I told you to keep an eye out....." Not very helpful, ok. Finn continued to clutch to his lance that was stabbed into the ground, wondering how long that could possibly keep him above ground, especially considering that one guy being drug under by multiple hands and.....
For once, Finn had to agree with Jack. "Abbi, Nevada!" He snapped at the both, at nearly the same time as Jack. "Get the ******** away from them." Everyone knew you didn't go running head first into dangers clutches, right ? Thankfully Jack seemed to have grabbed ahold of Abbi's jacket to haul her back towards them.
He couldn't say he cared all that much if Nevada got herself body snatched, though it would be rather inconvenient to have even more of them to deal with.

The Mist Hunter kept a tight grip on his weapon. He wasn't much use here; when Stormy was doing her best to shovel the sand from around him she received a pained yet grateful look. He hated being a burden, or even feeling like one. When she disappeared and was replaced with bones, he said nothing as he tightened his grip on his weapon even further.
When Candace looked at him, Lance offered a shrug before she turned away.
"Stay calm." Lance unhelpfully advised, "Something's happening down under, relatively quick too. Possession, spells, mind control -- hell if I know. They still have their weapons, are still in their bodies..."

"Then they have to be coming from somewhere," Shiloh said suddenly. "They didn't die down there, and whatever it is, is down there. That's what we want to get at, right? It's useless talking to them,," He jerked his head in the direction of the trainees, "And they're safer breathing up here, mind control or not." Shiloh looked around, there was nothing around them but sand after sand after sand. There was no where to go, no where except down. He hated being inactive, if there was some chance, any chance, no matter how slim, that he could get at whatever was down there and destroy it, and save people, he was going to take it. It seemed wholly absurd, but then again, so did this entire circumstance. Hoisting up Haruko, he drove her into the sand without warning, using her metallic jaws as a sort of crude shovel.

"Well..Famine horsemen once controlled a..dead hunter with bugs. Perhaps they can do the same for the living?"
Candace frowned.
"But they keep asking to go home.."

Stormy's smile faltered at the anger, as did all of them. Like a puppets controlled by a singular being, they all stopped smiling and turned towards Jack.
"So we are not going home?" This was said in unison. "Are you not taking us home?"
For a second the sand itself shook, not much, just along the surface. Enough to reveal the second Shiloh struck down on it, that just under the surface-
- Were hundreds, thousands of a perfect hybrid between a millipede and a tapeworm, long, thin and black, that immediate scurried and buried themselves back into the sand when exposed.

Shiloh bit back the shriek that was his initial reaction to the bugs, but as unsightly and gross as they were, they were just bugs and he quickly regained his composure. Bugs he could deal with. Sure there were what looked like an infinite number scurrying beneath the surface, but he had squashed enough centipedes back home to know that those types of bugs were relatively harmless... As long as they didn't try to perform mind control, apparently. Still, as far as things went, they seemed relatively tame compared to zombies and giant titans. He glanced with concern at the trainees wanting to go home, horrified that they might have some sort of parasite, and that there was seemingly nothing he could do to help them. Except squish more bugs, he reckoned. Haruko agreed, and once more Shiloh sank her fangs into the sand. If their enemy wouldn't come to them, he would go to it. Without warning the teen was pulled up by her giant of a friend, finding her feet kicking as she was mostly pulled out of the sand. Good thing for tall dudes! Now that she was mostly free, Abbi immediately set to wrestling herself out of Jack's grip, wriggling first one way then the next. She paused when the group looked angrily at her captor, the girl struck by their angry gazes. "N-no... We're going home..." Placating the group seemed vastly important, especially since doubting them before had resulted in Stormy harming herself. Er, the fake Stormy harming the real Stormy's body? Errr... The shift of the sand caught the teen's attention for a moment as she shifted her focus down, eyebrows furrowed as she watched. The amount of creepy crawlies was more overwhelming than the fact that they were bugs at all, and Abbi tried to bring her feet off the sand as much as she could, half wondering if she could coerce Jack into giving her a piggyback ride. But Shiloh was attacking the sand again, which seemed like a pretty good idea. But.. The teen frowned once more and shimmied out of her jacket still in Jack's grasp. Bugs under the sand or not, her friend looked really unhappy and what was one small girl against all those critters? "Hey! I think we should go home like... Right now! You wanna go?" She asked, hurrying closer to Stormy and extending a hand. Distraction was the way to go, right?! After all, maybe she could buy them all a little extra time to figure this out...

Pale and swallowing dryly, America tried to block the image of all those tiny legs out of her mind. We can do this, ghoul, a few crawlies are dinner not anything that can take us down! I'm more than a jacking rope so jacking use me!Gritting her teeth and squashing her unease, she turned to Lance who seemed the most capable despite his wheelchair, "What if we charged up and all hit the sand at the same time?" The vibrations at least might knock those ******** out for a bit. As she talked, the trainee tried to move into a more defensive position.

Candace's grip on Dakota reversed as he held the mist huntress AWAY from the look alikes. Lance's face was the epitome of calm and Dakota was clear to follow suit. Whatever it was, they had to act rationally.
Flashes of julie's body, a hallow shell with bugs pouring out. A weapon that never shifted to a totem. Of them escaping and leaving her behind....
He clutched at America's rope, then promptly let go at the swarm of bugs, Chama's summon clearing any away with its licking flames.
"Candace." He hissed, "Try to get them to calm down..."
---
On the otherside, Nevada almost had to resist the urge to clock Shy in the face. She had to remember that Shy was a friend, but the weird look on Stormy's face scared her. The one on Ian. These were not her close friends, this was not her sister or friend at all.
She could not panic, she would not panic. Even if she really wanted too.
"How about you don't tell me what to do Jack, the one who threw his weapon." She snapped back, her gaze turned to Stormy. Even Finn's warning wasn't enough to keep the girl from going towards Stormy again. If it was possession, she wanted it out of her friend. She had been there. If it was bugs, she still wanted it out.
"Stormy...Stormy, Hey. I'll take you home then, if that's where you wanna go. Because we share a room, I know where home is..." Nevada was moving herself away from Jack, from Finn and Shy. Even in the sand, she used Leroy to paddle sink her way through and closer to the girl, along with Abbi, she held her hand out for Stormy.
"Come on Stormy, I'll take you home with me." She didn't care, give her, her best friend back.

"Of course we're going home. Ignore him, he's the idiot who threw his weapon and lost it in the sand," Candace said calmly, wanting to wave a hand dismissively at Jack. She still wasn't sure how to feel about him.
The sand shook and Candace blinked, looking down to watch the bugs crawl out...and then disappear in the sand again. ********. "Nevada! Stay away from them!" She called out again. Candace freed one hand as Dakota held her instead of the other way around.
Yes, she'd love to get them to calm down.
"America's idea isn't..terrible. But I really think we need to try and get out of the sand before we start attacking it...plus, my weapon is already under the sand.."

"Yeah? Good." She continued to point her gun at the group of them, the barrel jumping from hunter to hunter as they spoke in their monotone voices.
"Okay can I just ask what it is with everyone throwing dead bodies at us?" she asked, mostly rhetorically. She was biting her lip, thinking of the events of the meeting she'd gone to. A dead body in the wall, photos of them in places that included a desert not unlike this featureless one... "It's starting to get old."
She eyed the bugs a bit more warily than the hivemind group, looking to America for guidance. Anything that moved like those creepy-crawlies was pretty much bad news on principle. "Yeah. Yeah I like this plan. Let's show these bugs who the top of the food chain is."

There was some sort of commotion, and the voices around her changed in tone. When Mimsy finally decided to look, she caught the end of Stormy cutting into herself to prove something. This was all met with a long stare, which she only broke when Lucky's hand was pulled away. Because he'd...joined them? And if Candace's comments were any indication, he was possibly filled with bugs. Really, that was all it took - a friend who was actually just a bunch of bugs put together was absolutely the most incredible idea for a friend she had ever heard. "Lucky." She smiled back at him, whether or not the bugs could register it. "Let me take you home. There will be no more waiting to endure." Nevada appeared to have asked the same of her own friend, albeit for very different reasons, Mimsy guessed. Still, she followed suit, holding her hand out to Lucky.
