Gil gave a commiserating smile. "I burned myself the first couple of times I tried using the cooker" he admitted. "I much prefer to cook over an open fire and I'll continue to do so often. I want to go gathering later in fact, I need some more dandelion root and more berries and some nettles. "he told him. "Will you be coming with me or staying here? I've no preference either way so don't consider what I may wish." He raked a hand through his long hair and closed his eyes for a moment. "I'm pleased you're here. I've never actually like company before but I am pleased you're here" he told him after a lengthy pause in conversation.

Gil nodded. "I'm sure you cannot exasperate the situation any further, Ez" he told him with a rueful smile. "I'm grateful you can attempt to help." He stood up and stretched his wings wide for a moment before tucking them close again."I'm going to head out now for gathering and leave the things at the cabin." he told him."I shouldn't be very long. Make yourself at home, do as you please here. Oh, there is a badger cub in the animal care room so if you hear noises from there that's all it is. You're welcome to go and see him, just don't touch him because of your scent and he may bite." He went to fetch a basket to fill.

Gil headed out into the forest to gather the things he wanted. He got a lot of dandelion roots to roast and grind for 'coffee' and he got nettles for nettle tea and a basket full of berries to make a pudding. He didn't like how much quieter than usual the place was, the animals were definitely more skittish, they knew something was up. The activity of the humans at the lake had greatly unsettled them. Once he was done he took all of his gatherings to the small cabin a little way behind the house. He hung the nettles up from the ceiling to dry and put the dandelion roots in a pottery container before going back to the house with the basket of berries to make a pudding for later in the day. He washed his hands, checked on the badger cub then went up to tell Ezra he was back. He tapped on the door but there was no response. He peered in and saw that the boy was sleeping, the cat and bird on his front sleeping too, softly rising and falling as he breathed. He smiled softly to himself at the sight then quietly closed the door again and went back downstairs to sit and draw for a while until Ezra woke.

((I had a pulmonary embolism and a heart attack; have got to have heart surgery soon, I'll be fine but may disappear now and then sorry))

Gil smiled at Ezra. "You're awake. Yes, I got everything I wanted, thank you" he replied. He put down his handmade drawing paper and handcrafted pencil and charcoals and looked at him. "When it gets dark I'm going out to a high clearing to watch a meteor shower. Are you coming with me? I should like you too."

Gil smiled slightly. "Good. I'm glad you'll be there. I always watch a meteor shower if I can. I've never shared the experience with anyone before though" he told him. "The company will be pleasant." Then Ezra asked what he'd been drawing and his cheeks pinked slightly. "Here" he replied, handing him the sheaf of papers. He had been doing sketches of Ezra, a few of the boy alone but mostly with the cat or yellow bird and some with deer. They were very well drawn indeed.

Gil frowned a little in concentration as he studied his artwork then looked at Ezra. "No, no I believe they're quite accurate" he replied after a moment or so. "You are very aesthetically pleasing, one of the prettiest of humans." He wasn't flattering or being nice, merely stating what he considered to be a fact, he always spoke quite bluntly and couldn't lie after all. "Put warm clothes on and bring a rug to put about you when we go to see the comet. The skies will be clear tonight and it will be quite cold."

"Low self esteem? Well, with such neglectful and unappreciative parents I should not be in the least surprised. Your self-worth is something we shall have to work on I guess" the angel replied with a small sigh. "Physically or spiritually? Well, both. You are a beautiful human inside and out. Which is a rare combination. And yes, I do mean it. I do not believe I ever say anything I do not mean." He smiled at him, a warm affectionate smile. "I'll make us a flask of hot tea to take with us and a rug to put on the ground so we do not get cold. I'm looking forward to this." He went to the window and looked up at the sky. "It will soon be dark. We'll head out as soon as it is."

Engill went and put on a warm woollen cloak and a warm hat. He fetched a blanket, too, that they could sit on and made the flask of tea. He put the blanket and flask in a wicker basket along with some buttered bread. He put it by the front door and then checked on his four-legged patient in the animal treatment area that he had set up in the utility room. Content that the little animal was in no pain or distress and sleeping soundly, nestled in hay, he went to wait for Ezra to be ready. He headed outside and sat on the doorstep watching the clear skies growing gradually darker by the moment as night stealthily took over from twilight. The first stars shimmered and the angel gazed up at them thoughtfully as he waited.
