((LOL, that's the point. He's old. xd Reeeealy old.)) The old man ran to this 'Niko' with Irene on his back. "My child. What has happened to you?" He spoke sympathetically. His eyes then widened. "Her necklace! Where is her necklace?!" He closed his eyes, as if remembering something. Then he spoke. "I see what happened. Yuki, Bana, and Niko. Dear friends of yours, right Irene? You haven't been this attached to anyone since that day..." He sighed. "Set her down, I have some work to do."

Niko looked from the old man to Yuki, not sure if he should do what he was told. When Yuki nodded slightly, he crouched down, gently slipping her off his back to the ground, then taking a step back. "Shouldn't we go to the vilolage first?" He asked, still a bit shaken.

The old man bent down to Irene. "The necklace can wait. I must heal her mental damage. It seems she did something to herself out of love, and now her heart is broken. In this stage, she believes she has failed whatever she tried to accomplish. If I don't heal her mentally, then even when her powers become regulated again she will be like an empty shell. Completely ruled by the gift inside her." He placed a hand over her forehead, where a faint white light appeared. He shook his head. "What could have been so important as to cause herself so much stress? Whatever she fought for, it was something really important to her." The light faded, and then he stood. "Pick her up and follow me. You can stay at my house while I make another necklace. I would carry her, but I'm not as young as I used to be."

Bana gripped the reigns of the horse and watched everyone, head tilted to side. 'Whats wrong with Miss Irene? Why is Mister Niko hurt?' Bana watched them and thought about running over when remembered something.
"Dont go near her!" "Stay away from them, Bana, you'll only get in the way."
Bana gripped the reigns a bit harder and kept her distance.

Niko listened to what the man said, eyes slightly wide. Had the stress Irene was under been his fault? His eyes shadowed over slightly, and he glanced down. He should have known, she was in pain because of him. It was always him. Wordlessly, he picked up Irene on his back as before, looking forward towards the village.
Yuki watched Niko's face. He was probably blaming himself for what happened to Irene. It was a bad habit of his, and no matter how many times someone told him it wasn't his fault, he always believed it was.
She looked over at Bana, noticing the childs grip on the reigns tighten. She went over to her, smiling reassuringly and placing a hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, they'll both be alright." She didn't mention that they were both lucky to get out of it alive. "C'mon, let's get moving." She gently pulled on the end of the mares reigns, getting her to walk at a light pace down the path.

The old man led the way to the village. Everything was burned down, and there was no living thing near a ten foot radius of the village. There were a few dead animals. Cats, dogs, birds, all burned and nearly already part of the eart. The old man continued to walk without looking at all sad or stunned, until he was near a house on a hill. The only thing that looked livable, bordering life and the dead town. "There it is, home sweet home. You can lie Irene down onto the bed in the room left of the living room while you three make yourselves comfortable." He smiled. He was sure they were unaware of the whole story. About Mariah and the other bandits. About the death of this once beloved town, and even the history of himself and why he is significant to this whole thing.

Niko looked around in alarm, thankful that Shadow was too tired out to cause a fuss and that there weren't any traces of fresh blood. He followed the man inside, finding the room he had mentioned. He gently laid Irene on the bed, watching her worriedly. Deciding to stay with her, he sat down on the floor with his back against the wall, arms folded in his lap as he stared at the floor.
Yuki watched Niko go inside then drew the horse over to the side of the house, tying the reigns to a pole. She smiled at Bana. "Let's see if there's something interesting for us to do around here, hm?"

The old man looked at Niko in worry. There truly was something evil in him. But If Irene was bold enough to care for him like he did, then the old man trusted Irene's judgement. "I need to go into the kitchen and create another of those necklaces. Irene should wake soon, and when she does her powers will be too weak to do anything. So I figure I have just enough time. Will you Niko have the honor to keep her calm and in bed until I finish when she wakes?"

He looked up at the old man as he spoke, watching him through dull grey eyes. "Sure," He said quietly, wondering if the man knew, or had guessed about Shadow yet. He looked back at Irene, concern for her crossing his face as he settled down to wait for her to regain concience. He was still at a loss as to what he would say, since no one had ever survived Shadow except for Yuki.

After a few minutes, Irene groaned. Her hair fell sightly over her face. Weakl, she opened her eyes and raised a hand to tuck her hair behind her ear. She looked around, then stopped when she saw Niko. She spoke weakly. "Niko?" She gave a weak smile. "You're okay." Her smile faded. "What about the others? Where are we?" Irene was about ready to try and sit up.
The old man, even from the other room knew what she was doing. "Don't get up!" He yelled. The old man was in the kitchen, creating with his own magic another necklace.
Irene stopped moving and relaxed. "So you met the old man." Irene smiled weakly again. Everyhing hurt, she didn't want to move anyway. 'This house, it looks just the same when it did all those years ago.'

Niko looked up when she woke up, then jumped as the old man yelled before he could even tell her to stay in bed. Relaxing slightly as she didn't get up, he gave a shaky smile. "Yeah... Yuki and Bana are fine, they're both outside... Are you hurt?" It was bad enough that meeting Shadow had drained all her energy, neverminding the fact that she was lucky to be alive, but if she had been injured as well he'd never be able to forgive himself. His own cuts and scrapes didn't matter to him; he was used to pain.

Irene couldn't feel his emotions at this time, she was still too weak for anything like that. But she did see the worry in his eyes. She smiled and shook her head. "Naw, I'm fine. In fact, never been better. So don't worry." Irene's smile faded a bit. "Niko, I'm sorry."

"Why should you be sorry?" He asked quietly. "I'm the one that should be. Shadow could have... Could have killed you, and I wouldn't have been able to stop him." He bowed his head slightly, eyes dull.

Irene smiled. "That's not your fault." She took a deep breath, as if trying to gather courage. "I'm sorry because I wasn't able to help you. You see, I was born and raised here. But I wasn't accepted and sometimes I was hunted down because people were scared of these powers I couldn't control. And then that night... When the bandits burned the villagers including my parents in the stone church, I hid."
She closed her eyes, trying to continue without crying. "The people I loved were urning in that building, but I was so scared for my own life and the fact that I couldn't control my power anyway I did nothing. No matter how painful their screams were, no matter how much pain I knew they felt, I hid behind a bush like a coward."
Irene looked at Niko, looking for an expression, then went on. "The old man told me that I can't go back in the past, and only worry about my future. But it was after the horrible night I realised that it would have been better for me to have risked my own life protecting who I loved than for me to have lived with pain and regret. Niko, when Mariah's stupid andit broke my necklace and my powers went out of control, I felt like I did when I was a kid. I was scared, and ashamed. Then I heard you were in trouble, and I had to do something to save you... Because I care for you."
Irene smiled. "Shadow's really strong, and I don't know why I'm still alive, but I feel like I failed you like I did my parents and this town. And for all this, I'm sorry." Irene looked away really quick so she could wipe a tear. Then she looked back at Niko, still looking sorry.

Bana had been looking around the village as they walked through it trying to keep the excitment inside. 'It looks like home' Bana thought as looked around. Bana looked down at Yuki happily. "Can we go visit the dead people?" Bana asked happily.
((Sorry about long absence and sorry to tell you there's more to come. With finals and everything else at school I’m kinda swamped))
