Michael reread the headline, shaking his head again. "You're right, but what can we do? We've got to just concentrate on other things right now. Like our grandchildren." He looked down at her with a small smile and kissed the top of her head. "Things will work out."

Peter woke up reluctantly about an hour later, rubbing his eyes and yawning for at least five minutes before actually getting up. When he left the room to go get another cup of tea, he saw that his parents were asleep, curled contentedly against the wall. The hospital was nearly empty, and Peter figured it must have been about 3 or 4 in the morning. It marked the beginning of many, many nights interrupted around this time.

"Peter...?" Jess yawned as she awoke a few minutes later, her lower abdomen still aching from all the strain on her muscles. She saw the door cracked open and figured Peter must have gone out for a moment. Feeling somewhat antsy, she stepped out of bed, nearly falling back into bed form being off balance. She had forgotten that she had just lost almost 20 pounds in the past few hours. Trying to readjust herself, she stepped into the slippers provided and put on the hospital robe before exiting the room and taking off towards the nursery.

Peter had coaxed two cups of tea from the half-awake wizard at the counter, and thought he'd drop by the nursery. He smiled to himself when he spotted Jess, looking down at what was presumably her children. "Thirsty?" he asked softly, feeling about a hundred eyes--all but two of them from newborns--land on him.

Jess smiled and took the cup from him, giving it a minute to cool. She leaned against him lightly, her free hand pressed against the glass window looking over the cribs. Most of the children were squirming or sleeping, but one little girl and boy were staring intently at the couple. "They're brilliant aren't they? Know us already..."

Peter nodded. "They're smart. And it probably helps that they've been stuck in you for nine months."

Jess chuckled, rubbing her now baby free stomach with a bit of nostalgic sadness. "Yes...but it was very dark in there. And they never saw you until just a few hours ago."

"You've got that right." Jess sipped her tea for a moment, waving to her babies as they squirmed around. "Merlin..." She made small sighing noise, glancing up at Peter and reaching up to give him a kiss on the cheek.

Peter smiled slightly, a little puzzled. "What was that for?" he asked, looking at Aiden, who smiled tentatively at his parents. Gwen, on the other hand, was beaming.

Jess smirked, kissing him back. "Not for that...well, maybe a little." She shrugged. "But I'm more grateful that you didn't leave me after I told you...and that you convinced me to keep them." She took his arm and circled it around her, resting her head on his chest. "I didn't know I could actually be so happy about all this."
