"You're right. I'll remember that, as long as I have you at my side..." York murmured. He smiled and was leaning in for a kiss when he heard a cough at the door. He whirled around and blushed at Raleigh's question. He opened his mouth to respond and shut it on the irritation and embarrassment that rose into his throat. "N-no, Raleigh, we're not going to do that," he said firmly, skin flaming. "We...only do that in our room, not in yours." Gulping, York got to his feet, pulling D up with him. "Good night, Raleigh," he murmured as he slipped out past him.
Once he was out, he stared at the wall as a sudden thought occurred to him. That's what he thought...he thought that a simple making out was sex...what sort of kid thinks that first? Poor Raleigh...

"Whatever..." he said tossing a book on the bed and undoing his armor. He'd taken the liberty of going through their book cases and snatched up the copy of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. He figured if nothing else he'd take advantage of readily available books. He finished stripping and then hopped on to the bed and opened the book. He figured if he got hungry later he'd raid the kitchen. Not having to compete with 5 other kits was sounding all the more appealing.
D blushed hard and followed York out. "Night, Raleigh." he said and then sighed at the kits indifference. He knew this wasn't going to be easy, but he'd do his best for York...and Raleigh. He sighed as he realized they didn't have anything the kit could wear...or at least nothing masculine for him to wear...they still had a few things of the girls around. He figured he'd go buy Raleigh some regular clothes tomorrow, and absently wondered what the kit liked...it wasn't warranted...but a gift might help break the ice... He was so caught up in his thoughts that he nearly ran into York as his partner stared at the wall. "York?" he asked. "Whats the matter?" he said slipping a paw in to his lovers.

York shook his head and turned around. He stroked D's face with his free paw and kissed him. "You're blushing, love," he murmured softly, smiling teasingly. He sighed, wrapping his tail around his partner. "It's just...Raleigh's right. I am a coward. I should have done more, done more to protect them. You heard what he said. That's what he thinks about love...god, what kind of messed up kit thinks about that?" He shuddered and gulped. Death threats were one thing, but Ayin and Rho became even more terrible now than they ever had been, than had anything that York had experienced even in the darkest days of his life.

D blushed a bit more as York gently stroked his face and kissed him again. "I can't help it." he said. He nuzzled into York and put his head against York's chest listening to his partners heartbeat. He listened quietly as York poured his heart to him and hugged his lover tight. "Its not crime to be afraid, York...fear is..." he sighed having to resort to having to sound like the AI he was programed to be. "Logical." he finished. "You were frightened for me, the girls, yourself...you didn't like it but you did what you thought was right to protect the things you could and did have control over." he said.
He then sighed. York was right. If nothing else a kit Raleigh's age should be shuffling his paws and looking any direction but at two adults kissing...but Raleigh hadn't...

"I don't know York...what do you expect though with Ayin around...She isn't one to care about how many spectators she has or what ages they are or if they're her own children..." he nuzzled York and clung to him. "Its a slim chance..." he started. "...But maybe we can at least save this one..." he said.

York nuzzled D's hair and stroked his back as he listened to what D had to say. He closed his eyes and nodded, forcing back tears as he rested his head on his partner's shoulder. Delta was right. Fear was natural. But he remembered the accusing tone in Raleigh's voice, the hard look of hatred. No matter what I do, he will never forgive me for trying so hard so late. His eyes flickered open at the next thought, which he quickly slammed a lid on.
I don't want to think about that. It's wrong. It just is. Raleigh's as much my son as the others. There should be no difference in the way I treat them or think of them. One of them is as important as the rest, and just as worth the saving. York gulped, suppressing not only the horrible words that had fought to climb out of him, but also the feeling of distaste he felt for himself as he thought it. "Maybe you're right, D," he murmured instead. "But I think it's too late to make him appreciate it. That's not to say I won't try my hardest. I've neglected the boys too long, it's time I dedicated some serious effort to one of them." York sighed heavily. "I'm tired, love," he murmured into D's shoulder. "Let's go back to bed." He straightened up and pulled his mate towards their bedroom, paw wrapped around D's.

D sighed and looked up at York. "Let us hope its not..." he said before nodding. "You should rest, Love." he said letting York pull him back to their room. He figured they'd need all they could get for what tomorrow held...
Raleigh had fallen asleep across the book in bed. The faint morning light that peeked in through the curtains made the kit jump as they struck his face. He jumped up and looked around eyes wide unsure for a few minutes where he was. This wasn't Cary's apartment...and then it slowly registered. This was York's. He looked around the room he was in and evaluated it. He hadn't paid all that much attention to it last night not with everything that had happened. Once finished she crept quietly out of the room and quirked his ears to listen. No sounds...evidently York and his lover were late sleepers. Raleigh shrugged and then walked over to the clean clothes in a basket D had yet to put away and pulled out a shirt and put it on...it was huge but better than going back to armor. Once that was done he crept into the kitchen and made himself something to eat. If nothing else he'd feed himself before they woke up...

York woke up the next morning curled around Delta. He snuggled closer to his mate, wrapping his paws around him blissfully. He could sleep in a bit longer. That was the great thing now that Yvette and Kyna were out of the apartment, there was no need to wake up on time. Something pricked at his mind at that...not exactly thought, but an impression. Something about what had just swam through his mind was wrong. York rolled onto his back, frowning at the ceiling as he struggled to remember.
 Raleigh.

With a groan, he got to his feet and pulled on his clothes. Back to being a responsible father and not sleeping in until noon. It was probably too late to salvage a good opinion from his son; he would surely make cynical comments for waking up late. As he brushed his hair, York reached out a paw to shake D gently. "Time to get up, love," he murmured. "Raleigh's probably awake by now, long since if I know kids."

D woke up and looked up at York after adjusting his glasses. He nodded and stretched getting up and rummaging for clothes. "Probably..." he said pulling on a pair of pants. "Why is they only realize the beauty of sleeping in After they move out?" he asked finding a shirt and pulling it on. "What do you want for breakfast anyway?" he added running a paw through his hair and then shook his head to settle it. Nice thing about being an image was he hardly ever got rumpled unless he wanted to, and he had a sneaking suspicion that York rather enjoyed it when D took the time to worry about such things.
D shook that train of thought and took a deep unnecessary breath. Today would be hell he was sure...and to make matters worse he'd have to leave York alone with the kit at least for a little bit...D bit his lower lip and then sighed. Maybe they'd work out some sort of arrangement...although that was highly unlikely...

"Eggs would be nice," York murmured. He leaned over and kissed D. "As for why..." He shrugged and smiled. "I guess it's because only adults really fully appreciate or need a full night's sleep." He paused and looked around the room and looked down at himself. He didn't keep a mirror in his room, he'd have to go across the hall to the bathroom to check on his appearance. Suddenly, he felt himself begin to blush and he chuckled. "D...I just realized that I haven't wanted to impress someone this badly in years." York wrapped his arms around D and kissed him. "How do I look?" he asked with a grin. "By the way, do we have anything we need to do today? Probably go grocery shopping, we need more food with a kit in the apartment again..." His mind began to race and scatter into a thousand directions as it settled back into parenting mode. Back to thinking more and being more considerate...Thank goodness the girls haven't been out of the house for that long.

D nodded and then looked over at York. "Or its because we're night owls and stay up half the night..." D said. He sighed as he realized they'd have to change their schedules again, which was far easier for him than it was for York, not to mention having to put in all the extra prep work for break ins now that a kit was back in the apartment again. D winced slightly at the thought of having to explain that one to Raleigh as he seriously doubted they'd be able to keep York's nocturnal activities off the radar.
His train of thought was broken as York hugged and kissed him. D returned the kiss and then gave his partner a once over and corrected a few minor things. "You look fine, York." he said. He didn't add that no matter what York did it probably wouldn't matter to Raleigh, but held his tongue.

"Today?" D said more to himself than to York. "Yes...I should probably go pick up some extra food...Raleigh needs some clothes as well..." he then looked up at York. "I think...I think we should get him something...I don't know what...just something along the lines that you're alright with him being here...maybe something that will get him to soften up to you a bit...however unlikely that is..." D sighed. "Thoughts?"

York nodded and set the comb down, satisfied with his appearance. He looked around the room. "No, no real thoughts, D. Not really." But a chance glance at his kit in the corner temporarily distracted him from worries about Raleigh's opinion. "We're still going out tonight, right?" he asked. "We need the money now that there's an extra mouth to feed." Suddenly, he sighed. Break-ins hadn't been easy with their daughters, but at least Kyna and Yvette especially had understood it. Raleigh, he realized, might be a different matter. Will be, in fact, if I'm right about him. York shook his head to clear the thoughts. "We have to, we've staked out the location."

D sighed and mused a bit before looking at York. "Yes...we have too...Rent is due in two day as it is..." he said. He went over to York and pat him knowing that living the way they did was never easy on his lover...especially when their were children around. No parent wanted to admit that their occupation was listed as petty-thief, and with the girls it had been easy...Yvette was cut from the same cloth as York and earned her living in much the same way...only with a legal day job as a locksmith on top of what she made in her raids.
D sighed and pat York. "Don't worry about it...we'll go after he goes to bed and be back before he even knows we're gone. Everything will be fine, Love." D said reaching up to kiss York's cheek. "Now come along, I'll make you breakfast." he said moving to the bedroom door and opening wandering out to the living room and moving towards the kitchen. He spotted Raleigh sitting on the couch and reading. "Good morning, Raleigh." he said. "Can I make you some eggs?"

Raleigh's ears quirked as he heard the bedroom door open and saw D make his way out. Bout Damn Time. he thought to himself. "No..." he said flatly. "I ate already..." he said condescendingly.

D winced slightly and sighed. "That doesn't mean you can't eat again, Raleigh...it won't be a problem at all." he said.

York followed his partner out. As they had suspected, Raleigh was already awake. York sighed at the kit as he returned to the book he was reading. A feeling of mixed frustration and love was beginning to form every time he saw his son. He gave an unhappy sigh and sat at the table, mulling his thoughts in his head. With luck Raleigh would not find out for a while about how they made money, but one could never tell. "What're you reading?" York asked him softly, tail twitching tensely. Why do I feel like I'm walking on unsteady ground with you? he wondered.
He stretched his arms and paws. Tonight he would feel better. Tonight would get his adrenaline pumping; it would be just the lock, D, and him, like it was meant to be, like it would be, Raleigh or no. With that brief thought to fortify him, York braced himself mentally for Raleigh's sarcasm.

Raleigh glanced over the book to look at York. "A book...you know a bound object containing pages words, you have a ton of them lying around." he said rolling his eyes. "But I suppose you meant to ask the Title of the book so its 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and I'm almost finished with it." he said looking back at the page. "As long as I don't keep getting interrupted." he added.
D winced as he heard the verbal abuse his partner was receiving from the kit. He sighed and wondered if their was a real physical way to crack the hard shell of indifference that surrounded the boy. He sighed and pondered it as he made York some scrambled eggs with cheese and a couple slices of toast along with coffee. Once he finished he took the plate and mug over to York and sat down to let his partner eat.

He then wondered how far he could push the kit with him as an authority figure...not far he figured...He sighed and tried it anyway. "Raleigh, did you make your bed?" he asked.

Raleigh looked over his book into the green eyes belonging to the little AI. "...No..." he answered slowly. "Why?" he asked.

"I like to keep things neat. Would you please make your bed in the morning?" he asked trying to keep things polite and straight forward. He didn't think making the kit make his bed was asking to much. At least he hoped not...

Raleigh looked over at D and shrugged. "Then you do it." he said. "Its hardly my problem what you like." unwilling to admit he'd slept in a cupboard and didn't have the first idea on how to make a bed.

"I'm not stupid, contrary to popular belief," York snapped. "I don't need the sarcasm, Raleigh." He could feel his temper rising. Almost immediately, he remembered D in the early days, before the end of the project, before D had figured out how to take a solid form. The ends of York's mouth twitched as he imagined his partner's voice warning him about rising levels of anger or aggression. Sometimes I miss the old days. Then I remember how annoying that got sometimes. "Thanks," he murmured as D set his breakfast in front of him.
He ate his food, flinching as D was verbally lashed by Raleigh's sharp tongue and buried his face in his paws. York bit his tongue and finished his coffee, standing up to hug D and give him a reassuring kiss. Raleigh would need to be disciplined more often, that was clear.
