Peter smiled. "Well..." He kissed her once more, hard. "Probably not."
"Not that the world outside's doing too well..." Evelyn looked down. Every headline seemed to announce bad news.

Jess by this time had clung on to him with both hands, glad that she didn't have such a huge stomach in the way of them anymore as she pulled him into another kiss. After months of not wanting to do so much as move, this was a very welcome change of pace.
Michael frowned, flipping through the pages. "Oh, there must be something good here." He finally happened on the Entertainment section. "There we go. Hey look, The Weird Sisters are doing a reunion tour. We used to love them. See? Not everything is bad."

Peter pulled away only after he spotted a pair of eyes on them. It was a little girl with disproportionately large eyes, looking as disapproving as possible for a newborn. "I think we've been caught."
"We'll go see them." She flipped the newspaper page uselessly and came to the sports. "Look, the Arrowheads won. Don't you have a relative that's a substitute for the Arrowheads?"

Jess glanced to the side, releasing Peter and smiling as she bent down to pick up the little eavesdropper. "Hello sweetheart. I know, must be scarring, but it's the reason you're here right now." She bounced her lightly in her arms, tickling her under the chin. "Well, not the exact reason, but you'll understand one day." A whimpering noise from her brother made Gwen frown, as she could tell that the attention was going to be taken from her yet again.
Michael chuckled. "He likes to call himself that, yes. He really just polishes the brooms and gets to run onto the pitch when they drop the Quaffle. He did get to substitute for a Beater though when they went against the Druids and got the pulp beaten out of them."

Peter picked up Gwen, grinning. "You're paying close attention, aren't you?" He kissed her lightly on the forehead. "You do take after your Mum."

Jess smiled as she gave up Gwen and reached back down, lifting Aiden up into her arms. "Shhh, sweetheart. Mummy's here." She rocked him gently until he quieted, staring up at her with eyes that looked very familiar. She kissed him on the nose and glanced up at her husband. "I'm going to have problems with this one. I'll end up calling him Peter all the time."

"I'm glad we've had time to get used to Gwen's name. She's too much like you." Peter smiled. "She's wonderful."

Jess normally wouldn't have blushed at this sort of comment, usually being so full of pride that it seemed something obvious. Given her current condition, however, the compliment made her cheeks feel a little warm as she gave Peter a kiss. This wasn't so heated as the others, mainly because she didn't want Gwen to get cross again.

Aiden seemed to resent this. He made no noise, but he squinted a bit at Peter. "I think he's getting jealous," Peter said happily, bouncing Gwen a little in his arms.

"Jealous?" Jess raised an eyebrow. "What, you think he wants to kiss you?" She glanced down at the miffed little bundle squirming in her arms. "You're not going to turn out like my Uncle Andrew who became my Aunt Andrea are you? Nasty bit of work he...she...it...was."

Peter wrinkled his nose. "I think he wants all of his mum's attention," he clarified. Jess's uncle/aunt had been mentioned once or twice in front of him, and the conversation was always not so subtly directed to another, more pleasant subject.

"Oh..." Jess's expression lightened as she gave her son a kiss on the forehead. "Well he's going to have to learn to share, because Mum wants some attention from Daddy too." It was very odd referring to herself as Mum, but it seemed to fit somehow. She just hoped that she wouldn't end up turning into one of those frumpy stay at home mothers. Like she would let that happen.

Peter laughed. "That's me, isn't it?" He tickled Gwen, looking thoughtful. "I'm Daddy now." He rose up and kissed his daughter lightly. "That'll take some getting used to. Let's go see Mum--I mean, my mum."

"You think we should call her Grandmum now?" Jess picked up a little stuffed owl that had been left in the crib and let Aiden play with it as they walked out towards the waiting room. "She doesn't look old enough to be one."

"I think my dad will be calling her that, regardless." Peter smiled slightly at the new grandparents. "We're all set to go."
Evelyn, who had been biting her lip in thought, looked up distractedly and gave them both warm, though weary, looks. "Wonderful." She nudged her husband. "We are, too."
