Well, if you're not willing to observe women and find a method that works for you, you can't improve too much. :] There are other methods than porn, but you should dig in if you want to learn fast.
My suggestion is to not worry about vantage points and poses, yet. Nail down and be comfortable with the female body first - just draw a simple girl standing there on a white background, from a straight facing-forward view.
Anyway, cartoon or not, artists should always have a basic foundation of human anatomy. Manga and other cartoon styles are based on the distortion and simplification of realistic proportions. So, in my opinion, you can't be a great manga artist if you don't study realistic bodies and faces too.
Realism comes first - you need to relate to the real, everyday things you see. Cartoons come second, because you're simplifying real things, and you can't simplify if you don't know what a real person/object looks like.

Seriously, if you really want to improve your drawing skills, go take a class.
I'm taking life drawing class at FIT this summer... Yay nude models? gonk Only if they're actual models.
It actually took me a while to break away from drawing more realistic proportions. With fashion illustration, the figure is elongated. They are usually 9-10 heads tall. Yikes!

From personal experience, it helps a LOT to have knowledge of real proportions when drawing manga. Not that I'm great, and I certainly don't study art or take it seriously, but that's my two cents. i share your same opions on that. but i have a good understanding of how the human body is composed and structured, in highschool i had pretty good grades for biology. so, i can basicly observes a human and "see" the way bones are sctructured, how the muscles are flexing. if i could see them physicly with my own eyes, i would have developed a sort of Byakugan. the biggest obstacle on this is; the difference in propotions. this is on muscle volume, fat placement, and the hips.

Urbane Mister, you need to get yourself a girl. That's what it sounds like to me. rofl I'm just poking fun. hehhehehehe that would indeed be a faster way of learning, but im not the type of person who goes clubbing. and alcohol doesnt influence my reasoning, so it doesnt lower my senses that would others help getting a girl. next to that, my sense of honor also doesnt help, since i dont decieve others for my own selfish good. Next to that, im not really attractive, and on top of that, im not someone who cares alot about appearence. Girls who do seem to find me attractive are overall too young for me ( a 25 year old guy shouldnt be doing 16 year olds ) i dont dress sloppy, but certainly not in a way to get girls.
so the chance of me actually getting a girlfriend is pretty small, like i said: im a fighter, not a lover.

Wow, is that what dating's like where you are? :0
I guess it's not my place to ask, but I've certainly never been picked up at a bar, and both my current boyfriend [age 20] and I have never known the taste of alcohol. :]

Ugh, I get the awkward/nerdy/Asian-fetish guys. Some of them are probably decent. But all they do is sit in the aisle and read manga. Not my kind of a guy. neutral
But anywy, the good books (aka fiction+lit+design+food+everything not teen...) are right next to that section. So sometimes I wanter around there looking for stuff.
Oy.
Sad thing that disgusts me, I got hit on more when I was a few years younger.
I think now I'm too scary/intimidating to guys. Hehehe.

A Fatal Fairytale Urbane A lot of guys have tried to pick me up at Barnes and Noble. xd

I still wish I was older when that happened, 'cause he was SEXY. gonk heart weird guy, though alot of young women ( try to ) look older then they actually are... which at some age, go 180, where they try to look younger. with me, its on a genetic level that i look younger. it kills alot of chances. i people think im always 3- 8 years younger then i really am. for me its more a curse, then a blessing... for now.

Asian guys chat me up during science labs. xd One daring guy did it front of my boyfriend. He was pretty pissed. Understandable, I get pissed when Asian girls flirt with my man. I don't understand how it works, but according to el novio, "Pre-med kids don't have lives outside of school. This IS our social life." On the topic of boiz and gurlz, this is one of my first digital paintings... I drew it ages ago when I was 15. BY MOUSE, because I didn't have a tablet at this point. :] There's actually a really sad backstory to this, but I shall spare you.

Sirius- So you've always been an amazing artist, eh? Sheeesh. That's really pretty, I can't believe it's by mouse! I can see the sadness... maybe that's just because of where I'm at right now.

Thanks. heart I practiced a lot when I was younger. I don't take it so seriously now, but if I had more patience I'd attempt backgrounds and scene depiction again. :] [It's from an RPG I took part in.] Oy, is everything alright?

All this talk of female figures needed this. Better pics later, these are crappy digicam snaps against my wall so they're skewed but give a good enough idea. Warning: n***s. In-class n***s. The last was a 10-minute sketch, the other two an hour to two hours. This one was supposed to be exaggerated in proportion to distort the figure. So we get barbie waist and big booty More in-class, different model Another stylized piece And finally an ink from a poser book There's a lot of these available in the art section of your book store or online. I have a ton. They're great. If you don't have access to live n***s, they're almost as good, at least if you know what you're doing.
