The tall blonde had been about to shoot back a retort when Aria settled into her lap. Whatever she had been about to say was suddenly forgotten and instead a very articulate "uhm" came out. Then, the first response that came to mind was quickly discarded because Jas' brain decided that telling Aria that there were some things that she had never had a problem finding was perhaps a bad idea. Not because she thought that Aria would take it the wrong way, but because flirting with her crew was one of those things that she kept telling herself was a bad idea. Even if one of the crew was a Companion that happened to have settled into her lap.

"I...uh...didn't think she would, but you never know. Lots of folk lost family and friends there." Jas said as she tried to think of a place to put her hands that wasn't in the way, uncomfortable or crossing that line.

She had to admit it, sometimes Aria loved to make Jas uncomfortable. A playful little smile flittered across her lips and she look at Jas.

"So how far is it to this salvage location? How many days do we have?" She pulled Jas' braid into her lap, playing with the band keeping it together at the end.

"Four days, I think." Jas mused, having decided that the safest place for her hands to go was one on Aria's knee and the other on the other arm of the chair behind the Companion's back. "Thereabouts. We'll have to find the ship once we get there. It's probably drifted some. And then another half week or so to Hera."

Eyes. That was a good place for her gaze to rest. Definitely a good place. Looking straight ahead would be rude as would allowing her gaze to drift south of Aria's neckline (No matter how fascinating that could be.). And watching her lips was just distracting.

It was fortunate and unfortunate for Jas that Aria had put a shirt on over her camisole. But there was only so much teasing even an easy-tempered captain like Jas could take. Unlike some of the companions, Aria had never tried to lose her curves or been embarrassed by them, so the butt sitting in Jas' lap was comfortable for the both of them.

"Mmm, that will be good for Jaden's ribs at least. Hopefully no one will have to drug hir again..." She smiled though, flicking Jas' hair back and forth.

That got a chuckle as Jas thought about the occasionally ornery muscle-for-hire being laid out by their new doctor. The captain leaned back slightly in the chair and absently patted Aria's knee.

"It would make things quieter if we did. Unless Jaden took up snoring like the last time ze didn't set hir nose right." Jas mused with a faint smile.

"It didn't sound like it, and the swelling hasn't even gone down yet. Not completely that is. We might have to get out the moonshine if we're going to make this trip. Maybe set up the basketball hoop. I wonder if Fayra knows how to play?" As she thought about it, Aria pursed her lips just a bit and placed the end of Jas' braid to them. It was partly an unconscious gesture, partly training.

"I--" Jas started before she noticed what Aria was doing with her braid. "...moonshine. Yes. Definitely."

The tall blonde had been about to mention the bottle of sake in her quarters that she had slipped out to get early that morning before Aria had come back to the ship. And the fact that unless Aria played with them, the teams would be uneven for basketball if Fayra did play. However, her brain was currently shying away from the thought of anything having to do with her quarters.

"We could celebrate tonight. New doctor, Jin-Li's back, we're doing well on jobs."

"A celebration sounds good. New doc, Jin-li, jobs, Jaden didn't get arrested. Lots of things to be happy for." Aria took a breath and nearly continued her line of thought before she instead flicked Jas with her own hair.

"I'm going to go check on Jaden. You should probably check on our orbit." Normally Aria would lean forward and kiss Jas' cheek but instead got to her feet and let go of Jas' hair. Though she wasn't blushing, it would be a lie to say she wasn't a little bit flustered. Stupid Jaswinder.

The ship's captain watched Aria get up with a slightly bewildered look, which quickly disappeared behind a carefully neutral mask. Behind it, Jas was wondering what exactly she had done wrong that Aria was now getting up out of her lap instead of continuing to chat. And without her usual kiss on the cheek too.

"Right. Orbit." she mumbled, turning her attention back to the controls.

For a moment Jas stared blankly at them as if trying to remember what all of it meant and what she had intended to do with it. Despite that, she recovered and checked their position, only to find that she still had a few more minutes in orbit before she had to hit the thrusters.

Stupid stupid Jaswinder.

Aria let the door close behind her, taking a minute to calm herself. For all her training, she should know better than to let herself get attached to Jas. That hadn't stopped her over the years. Was her plan really a good one? What if Jas said no? Could she live with that? What if she said yes? What then? Very carefully, the companion moderated her breathing, hands smoothing out her blouse more than it actually needed.

Stupid Jaswinder.

Jaden. She was supposed to be checking on Jaden. Aria shook herself from her reverie and started down the hallway toward the common room. Before walking in completely, Aria peered around the corner and into the room to see if Jaden was awake or still stirring.

What the hell had she done wrong?

That was the question on Jas' mind as she guided this ship away from Sihnon then settled back in her chair to watch the stars pass and think. It had been nothing more than close friends being close friends and now...Well, Jas couldn't afford to lose Aria for a number of reasons. Most of them were fairly business-oriented (Like how Aria got them a ticket to land on many planets that wouldn't let unknown ships land without someone reputable on board. Or like how finding a replacement First Mate would be problematic since Jaden just didn't fit the bill.), but some were slightly more selfish. They were a family of sorts, even with the new addition of the doctor.

Jas' chair creaked as she rocked in it slightly, deep in thought. To prevent Aria from leaving, she'd have to not screw up like she apparently had too many times. Not with the possibility of the Companion's sister getting married, which would get her recalled to Sihnon.

At the sound of Aria's feet on the deck, Jaden stirred and mumbled to hirself in hir sleep. Then a moment later ze sat up slowly with a wordless, grumbling groan. And sat there, staring blankly at the mess of wires that ran through the compartment with hir mohawk sagging to the left.

Though Aria may not be able to cook, if there was one kitchenly duty she was capable of, it was tea and coffee. Judging by Jaden's vacant expression, she made both.

"Hello sleepy," Aria said softly, starting the coffee and putting water on for tea. "We just broke atmo from Sihnon. Pretty smooth ride though so it's no surprise you slept through it."

She watched the muscle from the corner of her eye, ready if ze needed anything.

Jaden's reply to Aria's greeting was an inarticulate gralghr as ze slowly stood then shuffled to join the smaller woman in the kitchen area. Then, slowly, the ship's muscle patted Aria on the shoulder before deciding to stare at the kettle as if it would magically produce some form of caffination.

"It's getting there, sweetie," Aria replied mildly. She reached up and patted hir hand with her own, head tilting to lay against Jaden's arm for a moment. "I'd offer you instant as soon as the water is hot but it's vile. Are you feeling any better? It's going to be a few days until we get to the next site. Salvage operation. I think we should get the basketball hoop out. Jas thinks we should celebrate tonight." Aria rambled on pleasantly, not really expecting Jaden to answer or to even fully comprehend what she was saying. Not until ze'd gotten some caffeine back into hir blood.

When Jaden attempted to express an opinion on the basketball hoop it came out as mumbled Chinese that was more of a grunting grumble than anything else. However, Jaden did manage to make a vague gesture at hir ribs as a reminder that they had indeed been injured. And, still mumbling incoherently ze made a gesture, indicating drinking.
