All right, I must as this question. It BEGS to be asked. it's been nattering at me since the eary days of the RP.
Why are female students the same age as the male students calling them 'men', instead of 'boys, guys, or young men'?
And why is Abel calling Issac 'young Mr. Scranton'? He's the same age as her. confused

It's more an internal thought. He's a young man, which to her translates as "young mister."
Also, I don't know about everyone else, but it sounds kind of impolite to me to refer to people as "boys", because it sounds like I'm calling them immature. Plus, my character's not the kind of person to say "guys" because it seems too casual.

I admit I'm also bothered with the feminist perspective here: calling a male a 'boy' indicates immaturity and is an insult, but it's fine to call a female of the same age a 'girl', which would indicate the same level of immaturity, but is not seen as insulting or derogatory.
You don't need to fix it, it's your character and your writing! I was just curious about it.

I have to agree with Ivy, I've noticed this "men" trend too (and it started way before our two new arrivals, I'm not pointing fingers sweatdrop ). I was wondering the same thing myself, why a "girl" would feel obliged to call a male of her same age a "man."

For Ketrien and 'men' it's just the way she thinks. Too formalized, much of the time. Well, if it helps with the "Mister Scranton" part, in Amsterdam, people actually use last names like that unless people are close friends or family, unlike America where, if you're two fellow students, you're just as likely to use first names despite being perfect strangers.
Adelaide, of course, completely ignores this because she likes to get people's attention...
