I've gotten really sick of drawing Gaia avatars lately (much to the dismay of my commissions list)...
So I've been drawing zombies. Specifically myself as a zombie.
I am so overloaded on zombies right now. I'm becoming obsessed. :B

Then you don't have to worry about pleasing other people, deadlines, etc...

Drawing myself is a breath of fresh air, and it keeps me from wanting to just stop altogether. x-x;;

You should draw me. I'm already a zombie. ninja No, kidding. I was paying attention to what you said about being swamped, really. Anyways. I haven't been drawing much lately, unfortunately. I kind of want to set up a shop so I'll have money for donation items monthly collectibles, but... Oh. I did do this for my best friend, although it was mostly practice at doing lineart in flash and coloring. Which is why it looks so wonky..

YEAH SO LIKE...I KNOW I SAID I WAS SICK OF GAIA STUFF, AND I AM...
But this set of drawings that I'm going to be working on are gonna be used in this big RPG project that my friend is doing. So far I've only got the lineart for the first character (it's going to be a series of six), but I'm really happy with how it's turning out so far. :3
I'm totally excited about this project, because for years, it's kind of sort of really really seriously been a dream of mine to do work for videogames. I'd love to illustrate characters and do the official art for games, and even though this isn't a big thing, and this game isn't really going to go anywhere commercially, it means a lot that I get to do this. Maybe even someday if I have to get a portfolio together to find a job like that, I can use these pieces. >w<
And I'm trying to do these in such a way that they look similar (and recognizable) to the avatars I've got to do, but modifying items and details enough that they aren't quite obviously Gaia avatars.

A doctor would probably smack a person upside the head for labelling a patient's condition based on uneducated observations. After all, doctors spend YEARS in school to become experts at what they do.
Similarly, some musicians WANT to smack the general public for trying to give serious critiques like "it's BAD music because it's too ABRUPT" when clearly the general public aren't experts and don't know anything about the craft behind music, other than how "pretty" or "catchy" it is.
I'm sure artists tend to be the same way, noting flaws in their own work that the general viewer can't see, because the general viewer isn't exactly aware of what makes a good drawing. Because professional artists spend forever studying their craft. And sometimes art that we think is "good" is really mediocre - we just aren't experienced enough to be able to tell the difference.
Same goes for any expertise, any field.
...Just offering a different perspective. :]

I wanted to put off posting the colored version of my first picture for my friend's RPG, but it's taking forever to do, and I so desperately want to show off my progress. ;o;
The skin is a tribute to the '04 Gaia zombie skin (she's still got her '05 zombie skin, but preferred the '04, like many people did) and how it was semi-transparent enough to see veins. I DUNNO...I wanted to get super detailed. :B
I'm soooo proud of how it's turning out, and I don't want to end up half-assing the boots/skirt/belt and making it look terrible in the end. gonk

REDDY! That is adorable.
The hair looks so great too.
A lot of people have issues with curls.
And Ai vi, purdy as usual.
I love the way you color.
The left ear looks a bit strange though.
Like it curves down too much towards the head.

sweatdrop I've been owing reddy art for her birthday for some months now, I just couldn't get anything I drew of her something I liked for the longest time. those veins are amazing.
'course, i kind of feel unqualified to offer any comments in this thread, for obvious reasons. the sum total of my art scholarship is 5 years of high school art - i haven't got the utilities to really offer serious criticisms.
