I confess that our house is crawling with insects and spiders. Ants invade the dining room areas frequently, I see giant huntsmen and other spiders all the time, occassionally I hear cricket noises, and there have been flies, wasps, and cockroaches crawling about.

Worse, one of the old residents at our nursing home said they saw a rat scampering across the floor.

Insects are everywhere. But most of them are harmless. The ones I hate the most are ants. I hate ants. I want to squash every single ant I see. I wish that all the ants in the world would just die. scream

Right you are, young Mr Scruffles.

Without ants, Mini, the world as we know it would not exist. So shut up and love them. But if you really hate them that much, move to another country. Australia has many, many more ants than any other continent. It's like ant paradise here.

Have you heard of Agentine Ants?

Little shits. They're everywhere in Melbourne.

We had them everywhere at our old house, but then when we moved here (which was slightly more inland) we just used to get a tonne of sugar ants every summer. Harmless things, but they're big and scary and look like bull-ants. Anyway, after two years of living here, they vanished, and they've been replaced with Argentine ants.

The Argentines ants in Agentinia usually keep each other in-check, because different colonies constantly fight one another. All the colonies here now are descendant from only one original colonie, so they don't fight each other. Further yet, have a preference for introduced seeds over native.

AND! I saw an old doco on the ABC last week about Fire Ants on Christmas Island, which one of my lecturers was in. They ******** up the Red Crabs, which keep the forest floor in check my eating the small shrubery. They also climb up trees and threten birds, most noteably boobies. And they ******** up the plants by helping scale-like insects to live off the threes and suck out the sap, which the ants harvest. AND they attack Cocoanut Crabs as well, which are ******** huge! And rare.

Red Crabs are so silly though, they can drown. xd

Them ants is asking for it.

I've heard of those nasty fire ants. They've spread to Queensland and NT I think. They can posion young children and dogs and are ten times larger than normal ants but just as numerous.

I must admit I was a little paranoid there about my ant about killing ants. The small ants are harmless if there's just a few of them. But I would freak out if fire ants came into our house.
