*Highones help us all* Cutter sent, but he was grinning from ear to ear. Some day he would get to watch his cub wield New Moon and lead the wolfriders. Some day he'd get to see suntop grow up to be whatever he's going to grow up to be.

"Besides," Redlance wheedled, "If we stay close to the Holt, then while we hunt capnuts, you can scout locations for our defenses, Ember."
"Defenses?" Ember asked, blinking.
"Traps for humans. Perhaps sticky thorn plants like I grew around the Sun villiage?"
"Oh! and Strangle weed nets!" she explained.
Redlance winced a bit but nodded. "Sure."
"Just not hanging from above," Suntop said softly.

"Alright," Redlance said, nuzzling her. "Ready Tyleet?" He blinked and looked around. "Tyleet?"

Nightfall glanced off the way she had gone, having caught her scent.

"Father says that dawn is a very magical and wonderful time. It is when he goes up to converse with the sun. And Cutter and I found it to be an... interesting... time when we were back in the sun village," she said with a smile that only meant one thing.
Cutter smiled the smile back, remembering, and looking much like Skywise usually did.

"Yes, well this isn't the Sun Village," Nightfall said, uncharacteristically harsh. She regretted it immediately, but her daughter was out there alone. "There are dangers."

"And it's not the holt where you grew up either," Leetah said gently, putting a hoof on her friend's shoulder. "Yes, I'm sure there are dangers, but my friend, we've seen no evidence that they are the same dangers. We haven't seen any humans, no followers of Gotara."

"Even if the worst danger is a bear that is harmless unless provoked, that is still my cub out there," she said softly.
"And Tyleet..." Redlance admitted, "is the sort that would find a bear and curl up amongst it's cubs."
Nightfall couldn't help but smile warmly. "She is the sort that the bear would take care of her," she said with a small chuckle.
"And the bear would defend her against us," Redlance added with a hearty laugh.
