Do you have any citizenship at all? Does that make you a foreign citizen? How can you apply for HECS?

Well, actually I'm still a citizen under my mother's name, but I'm not sure how valid that is now that I'm an adult. It's better off having a real citzenship certificate of my own, especially since I need to get my passport, my P plates, and enrol in the Victorian and Federal electoral roles.

are you still under your mothers name atm?if so it isnt sucha big deal as long as you get it done sooner rather than later, but if your not, ild get it done asap...

I'd get it done ASAP as well, seeing as it shouldn't cost you anything, at least I don't think it does. Actually, it probably does. Stupid laws. But yes.

The cost isn't really the problem. The real problem for me now is I've lost a lot of my identification documents, most important of all the first Australian Passport I had.

Meh, I could, but I can't be stuffed. Besides, Michael isn't my original name. I had it officially changed in the regiester two years ago, but many of my documents still say my Chinese name, which I hate pronounced in English. sweatdrop

I'm guessing no one knows your indian name other than the ppl who are your closest friends or your family and relatives. Does anyone here know your indian name?

Of couse, I'm the same with my Chinese name. No one bar relatives of my family and some of my earliest childhood friends knows what my real name is.

Not to be raccist, but what is it with Asians in Australia choosing more western names to use instead of their given name? What's the deal with that? neutral

Well, some of us have wierd sounding asian names that may lead to white people making fun of us. My surname and firstname in particular sounds really wierd when sounded in English.

It's one of those things... assimilation? So they can fit in better. The chinese side of my family was called Ah Su (not sure of the correct spelling) but they changed it to Shuey... I guess coz it sounded kind of english, but also because my great great grandpa was a shoe smith in the goldfields.

Family history hooray.

I confess that my house smells like fish and it's yuck.
