Japan's Culture. I mean, even since Feudal Japan. A Geisha's outfit took hours to prepare and dress in. And it's part of J-rock Culture, too, in my eyes. The over the top costumes, and things like that.

By the way, everything I said was just an opinion. I am in no way forcing it on others, it's just how -I- think. Remember that.

Most of the people that I run into who know Japanese music are into stuff like Boredoms, Merbow, and Melt-Banana. I guess that's probably because I know artfags, but it's interesting to know.

You're talking about the geisha outfit taking hours to prepare as if everyone else in the world just got out of bed and threw something on. It took hours for all those simpering prissy nobles to get into their extravagent dresses, petticoats, corsets.

But we don't say it's a part of our culture. Neither do they. Hell, most Japanese don't even know what VK (over the top costuming) is. If they do happen to listen to rock music, it's usually something a band that looks like they just rolled out of bed and put something on. Something like Bump of Chicken. Are they not Japanese?

Ah, I am in no way saying that it applies to absolutely every Japanese band out there. There are a few, like the ones I mentioned that do indeed dress very extravagantly, and there are those, like some bands from every culture, including our own, that just crawl out of bed, and go out in that. But even still, that on it's own is a fashion. And I am in no way saying the clothes are everything. I'm saying that they do matter, to a lot of bands. And there are those that couldn't care less. It varies, really.

Yeah, for visual, if the artist spends time on his image and wants you to acknowledge it, there's nothing wrong with liking it. That is the product and you are the consumer. (Liking the "hot" band is not the same. They don't spend hours preparing their.. faces. Although... *cough*) If you only like the image, but the music sucks, you shouldn't say you're a fan and buy CDs or anything, but I mean, if you like a certain poster for the aesthetics, theres nothing wrong with owning it.

As for... *looks at thread title* Jrock in America, I think that's one of the hardest problems. Some bands are convention bands. Meaning they've done anime songs in the past, look like they stepped out of an anime (*cough*Psycho) or something like that. Others.. it seems like they do cons 'cause it's the cheap easy way to get an audience. If a band has nothing to do with anime... MUCC, for example, have a veeery big US following. I don't see them coming over. In fact the whole concept of angura.. it's old Japanese nostalgia. Or at least something distinctly Japanese. I don't even know if it would make sense for them to be playing here.

Bah, I don't know. *goes to sleep*

Does MUCC have a bigger fanbase than L'arc en ciel?

Even the biggest anime convention on the east coast couldn't fill up a 3k capacity venue for them.

I don't think so.....there's gotta be more L'arc fans.

But, yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing any angura kei bands over here anytime soon crying crying crying

No, I'm sure L'Arc has more fans. They seem to appeal to more people, and the anime thing makes them much more accessible to anime fans.

But even then, people are scattered all over the country. And even if people do like MUCC they might not like them enough to travel across the country for them.
