"Why do human girls carry mace? Were's have a human side, which can totally cancel out the whole wolf respect for the female thing. Anyway, you don't have to justify yourself to me. You don't strike me as the incompetant type and I have seen more than enough extremely capable men taken down by situations that simply did not pan out. Anyway, I think the best place for you right is in bed and unfortunately with me in it to." She bent down and kissed his forhead, but didn't get up to leave. She didn't really want to leave him, and she especially didn't want to stop playing with his hair. "And Jeff and I should really get to work on that paper."

Aurora spent a lot of time cleaning up. She had found a hole in her gloves after taking them off and basically had to bathe both arms up to the elbow in rubbing alcohol to make sure she hadn't gotten it into any cuts. Fortunately she hadn't felt any stings or seen any cuts... which meant she was probably ok. But man you never knew... strange guys in trench coats with girls hounding them and turning up in parking lots with serious injuries... he was interesting... and given the facts he was probably also a serious drugee in some sort of gang. The last thing she needed was aids or anything else from his blood.

sweatdrop

Aurora decided she had contemplated this enough for today and had better do something else... outside. Or did she just want to go outside because he could track her down more easily if she was waiting around in her room? She wasn't sure.

Aurora sighed and headed off to the park. She needed distraction... and birds would be a good place to start.

Kat woke up and realized she was snuggling up to Curtis, who was still asleep. She smiled at this and tried to go back to bed. She wasn't sure how long she'd been out or what time it was but she couldn't fall back asleep. She was concerned about waking Curtis if she tried to move but her curiosity got the better of her. She slipped out of bed being as careful and quiet as possible to not wake him up.

As she stood up she felt every nerve in her body respond negativly to her movement. She winced but the pain wasn't as bad as it had been. She scanned around in the cabin for something to do, maybe he'd left the car unlocked because she couldn't see any of the clothes they had just bought in the room.

She ducked stiffly outside, again being as quiet as possible, and headed over to his car. The woods out there smelled so great and inviting. Part of her wanted to go for a run now but there was still sun out, so it wasn't late enough. She tried to the doors on the car and they were indeed unlocked. She slowly rummaged around collecting the bags to bring inside.

Jeff wanted see what Luka and Connor were doing, all he could do was hear them and it seemed so entertaining. He figured their lives were like a soap opera and he just loved The Young and the Restless!

Aurora finally found a spot that was sort of out of the way to sit down in. Actually, she was sitting under the canopy of one of the larger white firs. She loved them, because even though they were thick with branches and hard to climb their branches often formed a tent-like space over the ground-- which she was more than happy to hide in as she relaxed.

Suddenly a very large squirrel with accusing onyx eyes stuck its head out of the upper branches above her and boldly gazed at her. It moved a little further forward and put a paw in her view as well.

"What do you want?" She asked the squirrel, aware that this sort of behaviour was not usual for them. "You're taking a very large risk in looking at me like that. I could sweep a hand up there and pop of your head before you knew I'd even moved."

The squirrel continued to stare at her.

"Look! If this is supposed to be some kind of universal omen for my current status you needn't bother! I know that Connor fellow is going to come looking for me again."

The squirrel continued to stare at her.

"What!? Is this about my social preferances? I don't care if I'm just sitting back and watching! I don't care if I'm not part of all the activities! I like to sit back and watch people do what they do. And I know they're watching me too. So just go away."

The squirrel continued to stare at her.

"Oh, I get it now. You know what I am. You can tell that there is something different with me than with the other humans. And you think that if you point it out to everyone then they will figure out what I am too. Well it's not going to work! Nobody listens to a stupid squirrel! YOU HEAR ME!? NOBODY!"

At last, the squirrel seemed to have some kind of reaction. It scampered off up the trunk when she screamed at it. Personally, Aurora was hoping it would have a heart atttack... but that wasn't likely. A squirrel that bold wasn't going to be overly distraught with a loud noise. It would probably just scamper off into another tree and forget all about her... Aurora sighed and stretched out on her back in the dirt.

And then she noticed a pair of accusing onyx eyes watching her from the dark above...

It was strange, witnessing Luka in such a gentle mood. Connor knew she could be... emotional... but maternal? He'd never imagined her in that sort of state. Not that he could really complain. He preferred this to her taking advantage of his partial nudity. How convenient for her to have been studying in Jeff's room...

...Wait a minute...

"Paper?" Connor echoed with a raised brow. "There's no way you two are working on a paper. That's just too convenient. You had to know that this was my room somehow. Did you follow my scent?"

***

What woke Curtis was the lack of warmth beside him and the weakened scent of Katra. She wasn't far, but she also wasn't beside him anymore. Her exact location was given away when he heard his car door shut outside. A quick glance out the window revealed her coming back towards the cabin with her arms full of clothes.

Smiling, the German looked to the sky beyond Katra and the trees behind her. The sun was still there, but making its decent. It would be dark for a good hour or two. Aside from putting Katra's clothing away, what could they do in the meantime?

"Are you hungry?" he asked when she came in. "I know that you are not a fan of meat, so perhaps I can make something else for you."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 22, 2008 7:37 am

Katra piled all the clothes onto the floor when she came back in. She was startled that he was awake already. "I didn't mean to wake you up! I'm sorry, I can be quieter. Don't worry I'm not hungry. You can go back to sleep!" Katra ran over to the bed and tried pushing him back down on the bed. She felt horrible that he had woken up because of her.

He was asking questions. Damn. "Yes, paper, you know when you have classes they like to make you turn some stuff in that they can grade. Papers are a favorite of many teachers. Sometimes they even make classmates write them together. Jeff is in my class. Someone seems to be a little paranoid, or are you just really hoping that I would stalk you that much?" She smiled, raised her eyebrow at him and continued playing with his hair. God it was soft.

Needless to say, it wasn't much longer before Aurora left the park.

It just so happened that a few minutes later a dean happened to be walking by and noticed a large gathering of people watching something that was loud and screaming... and then he noticed that there was a fir tree in the middle of the gathering, from the upper branches of which was a girl hanging on wildly as it bent and swayed with her every movement (and she was doing a lot of waving and screaming and kicking) and that the object of her attention seemed to be a panicked squirrel cornered at the very top and desperate clingly to the branch as it danced around in the air like a crazed carnival-ride. Well he made sure that she got down (though he had to call the fire department to get her down), and that her free time was packed with anger-management... He really didn't need any more psychos on campus, especially psychos up a tree...

*******

So Aurora was bummed. And she was sitting in a psychiatrist's office... and she still wanted to snap that squirrel's stupid neck...

"Now tell me again, why were you mad at the squirrel?"

Aurora glared at him. "It was mocking me."

"But squirrels don't mock people. They mind their own business. They eat and sleep and climb trees and gather food for winter. How could it have been mocking you?"

"It was staring at me..."

"It was probably scared of you. Goodness sakes, being in it's tree like that. You were probably near it's den and it didn't know what to do. So it was watching you to see that you didn't hurt anything."

"Oh it didn't want me to hurt anything all right..."

"What do you mean by that?"

"It doesn't like me. The universe doesn't like me... It knows."

The psychiatrist swallowed, shifted his weight further back in the chair, and pulled his paper pad closer. He hated that phrase... it was not what he needed today... it was the very last thing he needed today... this girl was either a killer or an arsenist for sure... She was very unstable and he was thinking now might be a good time to call security...

"It's not paranoia if someone really does seem to be out to get you," Connor pointed out, though with very little venom in his voice. "Even if they aren't out to kill you and clearly want... something else." He cleared is throat and was silent a moment. There were sirens in the distance, growing closer. He wondered briefly why a fire truck was out, but the hand in his hair distracted him from that train of thought.

But Luka's hands in his hair were lovely. Though it had been a long time ago, he was certain that his mother used to play with his hair to soothe him. Between this and the pain-killers, he was growing sleepy."

"You don't seem too enthused about this... "paper"..." he murmured, his voice soft and groggy.

***

Curtis normally considered himself a decently coordinated man, but when Katra began to push against him and encourage him to lay down again, he lost his footing and fell back onto the bed with Katra atop him.

"Would you be if you were me? Anyway, I really should go. If I sit here in view of your mostly naked chest any longer I might not be able to control myself and then I would most certainly break you." She chuckled. "And if I'm going to break you, I'm going to do it when you're perfectly healthy, otherwise the bragging rights are worthless." She gave his hand a squeeze. "Now you sleep, you need it."

Kat was not expecting fall ontop of him. "I'm so sorry!" She tried getting up but ended up being her usual ungracefulness and just kept falling back onto him. She finally gave up once she realized that she was getting no where fast. She sighed and layed there. "Sorry, I;m not being very graceful today." She winced slightly and put her hand up to her cheek, the gash, thanks to her whole being a were thing, was already starting to heal but was defintaly going to scar and it still hurt a bunch.

"You expect me to sleep after a bedtime story like that?" Connor murmured. He was incredibly tired but... "Don't forget that you gave me that knife," he told her, though there was very little threat in his voice. By now he was drifting of and what he was saying was making little sense. "I'd better not catch yeh tryin' to hump me in me sleep..."

And then he was out.

***

"We all have off days," Curtis offered, feeling the heat rising in his face. He considered moving her - lifting her off of him and setting her on the bed beside him - but would that make things more awkward? He cleared his throat.

"I have not seen you eat today," he told her. "And... even if you ate at home that was quite a few hours ago." Curtis also figured that Katra did not have a lot of food at her apartment, but he didn't think it wise to embarrass her by pointing this out.

He sat up, letting her slide into his lap. He placed his arms around her so that she would not fall.

"I am going to make something," he told her firmly but kindly.

Kat nodded. She was a wee bit hungry, she'd been saving up till monday before she went out to get her monthly dose of food from the store. She, at the moment, only had a few pieces of bread and some orange juice left in her apartment. She hadn't had a real amount of food for five days.
"I'll take whatever you give me," and as to prove her point her stomach growled rather loudly. She sat in his lap and felt perfectly safe and comfortable she almost didn't want him getting up at all, even for food.

Luka went back to Jeff's room, but when she opened the door, Jeff nearly feel on top of her. She pushed him back into his room and closed the door quietly behind her. "So, did you enjoy yourself?" She wasn't exactly mad at him, but really why?

Now that it wouldn't be so awkward, Curtis picked Katra up and set her on the bed. She had a very cute and innocent air about her as she sat on the futon amid the pillows and quilts. He smiled and meandered into the kitchen.

He had a few veggies, but not many. Certainly no tofu. A few wild berries, though. And some bread. He would need to go shopping this coming week if she was to stay with him, which he certainly hoped would happen.

"Perhaps a salad and some bread?" he tried to offer.

***

While his rest started out deeply and peacefully, but as always it did not remain that way.

Those images came, as they always did, to remind him of why he was hunter. Remind him why he hated them. Remind him that he was alone and those he had held most dear had been killed in the most horrid of ways.

Miraculously, it was when the nightmarish figures turned their attention to him that he woke.
