After his recent victory in Val'Ghast, the Pagan decided that it would be a good move to return to his homestead, even if only for a short spell. It didn't seem like much had changed in the years that he was away, plotting the unification of the plane, as well as much more. Now that he had dominion over a kingdom of monsters, his own military might and prestige had become more...prominent. Regardless, the scene he now bore witness to was nothing more than utterly pathetic. Creatures of pride and power; vampires, werewolves, and incubi alike, consumed by the frailty of money. They foolishly gambled their desires away, and in search of what? A little bit more release from this world, where their finances really meant little? Were they aiming for heights using wealth instead of refining their power, and causing the ripples in fate with their own two hands? This casino served as a powerful testament to the weak. How could they hold themselves to such a low standard?

One day...this world would be unified under a singular, powerful ruler. And on that day, the entire plane would see what it meant to be truly powerful...to be complete. Meager struggles like this would become a thing of the past, every person, every creature would be made to embrace their full potential. Gloria en Valle was just the start; the whole world, one way or another, was going to be a goddamn utopia. And it started right here.

                                                            • Glory To Me
Pagans are very... noble. They have the air of a King or Queen about them; even a divine. This comes from this particular ability. 'Glory To Me' is a mental allure that they constantly release from their vessel, similar to an Incubi's seduction, but weaker. Rather than seducing people, this ability fools their mind. It can make them see things that aren't real. In fact, they can even feel these things. This ability is literally impossible to ignore or break out of, but it serves little benefit other than prestige. A Pagan will often use this power to make themselves appear divine; the sun will rise behind them, their clothing will flow and shine with the breeze, they'll just seem so... God-like. They can even change their appearance using this, although it's a temporary thing. This ability can have some uses in battle, though. For example, if a Pagan is to cast a shadow over themselves, it'd make them harder to see. If they make the sun shine behind them, they can make their enemy flinch away from the overbearing light. They can also fool enemies into thinking they've struck a shield or something like that, although that sort of manipulation over reality is something that only Pagans who focus on this type of power can do.

                                                            • The Game
This can only be applied to someone the Incubus has met before. Since Incubi appear simply as men, it's impossible to tell them apart from others. The moment you interact with them, they can register your desires. They'll remember you, and discover the aches and wants of your body. They'll know what sort of kinks you're into, and what type of person you like. They can use this to seduce you in person, or they can use it to manifest in your dreams. They'll send a little fraction of themselves to wherever you lay your head at night, and corrupt your body with their touch. When a victim is stronger and more able to resist them, they'll stick to beautiful and elated imagery to keep you hooked on your fantasy world. Timid and fearful victims will often be tormented with their desires, controlled by them rather than gifted them.

When a victim is truly infatuated with their fantasies, or crippled into submission by them, the Incubus has the power to manifest their spirit completely. They will then loom over them, and please their bodies however they want. This is most often used simply for the personal satisfaction of an Incubus, but can also be used for assassination purposes; ie, if the Incubus has reason to kill the target he's seduced, he will. The Incubi cannot use this ability to teleport to people while in combat, or to teleport to people who are in combat. The opponent will not suddenly be alarmed by the Incubi, but worked into it. They'll know they're coming, and will eagerly await them.

The surroundings he would experience were more unusual than one would commonly encounter at the High Moon Casino. Firstly, everyone was in a sour mood because hardly anyone was winning anything. The clerks and employees were being accused of rigging the machines and the games between dealers and dealed, although this was not as it had been just the day prior. In fact, a man near Amias spoke confusedly at his experience today versus the one prior. As it had been, only yesterday, the populous of the Casino had been winning outrageously; so much so that the Casino shut down for the day to ensure that everything was normal, or if the ground they walked on had been augmented by some sort of sour spell. No one discovered anything.

Now, people accused them of trying to beat their losses by scamming the crowd present until they'd regained their purses. The employees seemed confused as well, however, and many of them appeared disjointed - no one bitched and raged like a Lumirian, and each and every man and woman wearing a nametag tonight had been bitched at by at least a hundred patrons. Everyone was upset, a lot of people were leaving, and in the corner of Amias' eye was a man gleefully playing the slots despite losing tragically every single time.

Indeed, the setting wasn't quite as gleeful as normal. Amias had taken a moment or two to get a more accurate inventory of his surroundings before speaking to the gentleman next to him, the one who commented on his experiences just yesterday. It wasn't entirely an odd concept; fortunes came and went, as did kings and queens. "I find it interesting, this dependence on fortune." He leaned closer, speaking with little more than a whisper into the man's ear. "Don't you think it's much more entertaining to be in control of your destiny? To use others as the pieces on YOUR chessboard? To that end, you can accomplish so much more, and you hardly have to get your hands dirty. The circle of life continues that way; using, then being used. Those who are the most successful are those who know how to accomplish their goals on both sides of the coin. Learn to be a faithful servant, and you make the best kind of master" He leaned away before digging into his pocket. Of course, being the master of Lyr, Amias was able to summon whatever he wished into that pocket. This time, it would be a completely worthless, golden piece. Likely, it would turn one of these lucky patrons' misfortunes into a major profit. Or so they would think, until they got it appraised. "Like this. Dangle a bone in front of a dog, and it will fetch." Using his ability, Glory to Me, it was quite easy to draw everyone's attention to the golden, lustrous, and sparkling coin he now held above him. To that end, they barely registered that someone was holding the coin. He flipped it in the air before walking in the direction of another intriguing man he'd noticed in the corner of his vision. The horde of Lumirians now fighting over that single, valueless coin. The coin made out to be a fortune would be nothing more than a fool's crown. How many would lose their pride or their lives for something so pointless?

It was at that point that Amias took a seat next to the gentleman, taking a small handful of his own coins, and beginning to lose at the slot machine right next to him. After a short time, he was smiling as well. No words had been spoken between the pair quite yet, but it seemed there was something quite agreeable between the two of them; there was something just so funny about watching the populace flounder about.

A woman overheard the man speaking. Her hair was red with blond streaks, and her eyes were a pale shade of white. She was evidently a vampire, though something about her was strange. Most wouldn't be able to notice, but as an Incubus, Amias would be able to. She smelled like a werewolf . . . and a vampire. She rolled her eyes at his speech, and responded with words in turn. "It's not a dependence, for most of us," she said. "Most of us here are wealthy already. Being alive for five hundred years will do that. But we don't like being cheated, either. So of course, we're simply upset." The thing with most Lumirians is that they were usually a cut above the average. Most of them held profound secrets, and most of them were unique in some way. The majority of them had lived for over a century, and in a life so long you could very often acquire some unusual quirks.

"I know who you are," she said to him. "I don't really think you practice what you preech, after all. I mean, really. You've been hiding for so long, bowing, scraping, running off like a little b***h. You've come out of the proverbial closet recently, but that doesn't amend you of your centuries of cowardice." From her words, she really did know him. It would likely appear strange to him, just how well she knew him, and only based on his appearance. But to her, it was more than just an appearance. She could smell him - the smell of a pagan. It was unique. She'd smelled it only a few times in her life, and each scent was different. Amias' was the most unique of all, as his body was not like a mortal's in some key ways.

But as she was there, with Amias' attention on her or not, she would soon be present no longer. Just a passing face. Like many in Lumiria, she did not like to be seen - only heard.

The man Amias came to, the one who was winning and enjoying it, looked at the man and laughed. Even though Amias was losing wealth in each play, he seemed to be tolerating of this. He could respect that. Amias' Incubus senses would detect that the man was very likely a Mer, and they tended to have an extended optimism that few others had. Strangely enough, Amias would begin to win more and more the longer he played, and the Mer couldn't help but comment. "Nice! See? The other people here are cowards. I lost at first, too, but now I'm making my retirement funds." He grinned. A gigantic pouch of gold now sat beside him, enough to probably buy a mansion. The profit of everyone else's failures.

"You here to gamble? You don't seem to care much about money." He looked Amias up and down and smiled innocently. "I came here looking for a good time, win or lose, and I found it. Name's Waylen Dane."

As soon as the strange woman began speaking to him, she would be able to notice that the irises and sclera of his eyes had turned a solid, pitch black color. From there, if she had the ability, his scrying would immediately become known to her. No sooner than Amias had gazed upon her, a slight, painful sensation had come over him; almost as though something didn't WANT him to be investigating her. A similar sensation--though not as powerful--occurred when he looked upon the Mer next to him. "I find it amusing, that a creature such as yourself has any justification uttering such nonsense. In fact, I would ask where you were when the God-King was around; were you there on the frontlines? Or perhaps, in the battle against Fraxen all those centuries ago? Were you even alive when I did battle with the Great King, Lensley? You are far too young to be counseling me on matters you have no substantial knowledge of. When the day comes that an entity older than I is able to tell me something I don't know, then I'll happily listen. Until then, know your place." He then turned from her, keeping a small amount of Lyr ready underneath his clothing in the event of a retaliation. This other fellow--Waylen--seemed much more interesting than the mudblood next to him.

"You look rather young, to have that wisdom. Especially here, in a place like Luimira, the fortunes of the strong have always been gained at the expense of the weak. In fact, I was just telling another man over there that you have to get used to both sides of this cycle in order to be successful. We're living this exact idea right now, you and I." A grin crossed the Pagan's face as he looked around the room, sure to continue gambling as well. Though his fortunes seemed to be completely ridiculous right now, he suspected that it wasn't without cause. Like the pair he was just talking to, an odd fog seemed to be coating the room, an energy that was beyond the powers of his perception. For now, he would play along into whatever strange scenario he'd found himself tangled in. "As for your question...I'm not entirely sure why, but I felt a strange beckoning to this place today. And seeing as how I enjoy the journey, of course I had to gamble a little in the casino. Old men like me can't resist blowing their money away." A light chuckle escaped his lips as he continued his fit of gambling. There were certain points where the energy in the room peaked in his mind, but he brushed these thoughts away for now. "Ah, and before I forget, my name is Amias Nicht."

Obviously, he was meant to do something here. What that was, he didn't quite know yet. But he'd been privy to the machinations of higher beings before, and this wouldn't be the first time he'd played his part as a puzzle piece.

The woman said nothing in response to his agitated reaction to her. She merely smiled, stared and laughed. She could feel that he was peering into her - trying to discern things that others couldn't. He would discern some things, but others remained concealed. And that was the case, too, for Waylen. Both of their energies were foggy and certainly paranormal. An inexperienced individual would compare their auras to the residue of a ghost - ectoplasm - but it was not quite the same. Instead, it was a cut above such things. If not ectoplasm, it was the soul of what made a ghost what it was - the mystery, the enigma of its very existence, and the haunting power. He could feel all of these things within the two, and the woman's energy was even weirder than the man's. She had a barrier of sorts against his gaze, while the man was innocent of such a defense. Was he beckoning him in, or merely oblivious to that he was being watched at all?

"I am not wise at all. Trust me on that one. Can barely tie my shoes. But what I am is lucky. I have always been blessed with luck, which is odd to really proclaim, but I know it to be true. This day is swell and all, but it's merely one example. I must have won at least a thousand prizes of similar caliber in my life. I have met the most powerful of entities in the most random of places, and all of them have given me a gift of sort. You, too, are a powerful entity. Perhaps if I weren't deterred by the musty air of this industrial city, I could gauge you better. But, alas." He paused for a moment. The man had dirty blond hair, wavy and nearly down to his shoulders. He had bright green eyes, tan skin, and light freckles running from cheek to cheek. "It is good to meet you, Amias Nicht. I apologize for that bitchy old vampire I heard you talking to earlier. I don't quite care for Lumirians. They try far too hard to be distinctive from the old ways. They can never be proper, pleasant or mannerly. They've always got to try and make everyone else feel like s**t. It's not like that in Los Anthos, nor Fraxen, nor anywhere else. This city sickens me."

He sighed. Why was he here, then? He honestly wasn't sure. There was something about the power that drew him - that was what he felt, and his addiction to that pull was what kept him in this city where few other wise Mer dwelled. "Now, let me make a lucky guess and assume that you're curious as to why this place seems to have been cursed with ill luck, while I prosper. The answer is one that is simple, but revealing it would be far too dangerous while surrounded by the angry mob of losers and penny pinchers. Would you like to join me on a trip to somewhere . . . not here?" He smiled faintly. Evidently he did have some purpose for talking to Amias, just like Amias had a purpose for talking to him. So, the question was . . . what? What did he want? What did the Incubus want?

The Mer, if answered with an affirmative, would lead Amias to his chambers in the Casino suites.

With luck, eh? It was a fair guess to make, regardless of these seemingly foreign circumstances. To add to it, there was also the increasing prevalence of the gods and their presence on Axiom; it was likely that many of these lucky events or supernatural encounters were based on the areas the gods were inhabiting; who could say whether or not their mere presence could shift man's fortunes in such an obscure way? The way he described Amias as a powerful entity, though...would he expect some kind of offering? A gift? If so, Amias had nothing very special to give besides an ancient, worthless form of currency. Special in namesake alone.

"You're correct." Amias leaned closer when he spoke, coating the space between his mouth and Waylen's ear with a strange, smoky energy to perturb eavesdroppers. "I do wonder what this peculiar energy is surrounding us. If you've got an explanation for it, I'd be more than happy to hear you out." With that, Amias merely waited patiently for the man to lead him to a more secluded area, so that they could have this conversation between just the two of them. As per the normal--especially after his experiences with Dagda--he remained alert, the coating of lyr hovering instinctively over his skin, underneath his clothing.

When they arrived in his room, the man leaned back into a chair and puffed a breath of vaporized liquid through his lips. He looked to Amias with silence in his eyes. "You wish to know the source of the energy?" He asked. The man placed his liquid rod on the top of his dresser, and turned off the lamp near his chair to make the lighting more dim, though both of them could still properly see in the faint light. "Very well. It is me." He did not bother to conceal the truth, for it was pointless to do so. He brought Amias here so he could learn the truth. He was interested to see his reaction.

"I am a Siphon. A servant of Kali. We pull from one thing and give it to another. This can be more than just power - this can be . . . anything. I'm special because I can use my power to change odds. I'm unlike any other. I altered the probability of winning and losing at the casino, and I will also alter probability right here." He stood up and threw a small golden orb at Amias, expecting for him to catch.

"I knew I would draw in someone worthy, but I didn't quite expect someone with your tempermament. A pleasant surprise, really. I would like you to do me a favor. You see, Kali has designated that I track down a particular entity that has managed to loose itself from our combined grasp. I cannot do so on my own, as the creature will be able to distinguish me from the crowd. I am marked by Kali, you see, and thus glaringly obvious to those who have acquainted with her in some way. So, someone they won't know is necessary. The orb is undetectable, and will begin to scald against your flesh when the target is near. We would have preferred another method, but light or noise or smell would be too obvious. They would run, quickly, and you would never be able to find them again. We need you to approach this target with discretion, poise and expertise. The closer you draw, the hotter it will burn." He didn't wish to sound merely as if he was giving orders, so he determined that he would at least add in a promise of a reward or something of the like.

Do this, and Kali will be in your debt, Amias would hear in his mind. With that, all the lights flickered away and the room grew dark as it did silent. His task would be clear. He could already begin to feel the orb slightly hot against his body, which meant only that the target was not all that far from here - but where exactly? He would have to investigate.

'Kali...? That's a name I haven't heard before...I'll have to look into this more closely.' Tucking the orb into a concealed coat pocket, Amias slipped out of the room and back into the hallway. Waylen had specified that the orb would become hotter against his flesh the closer the target was, so Amias had taken special care in coating the orb in a thin layer of Lyr to prevent his clothes possibly starting on fire. Otherwise, he headed at a casual pace down the hallway, past the room they were mingling in previously; it was obvious enough that their target wasn't in that room, especially if he could recognize the Mer on sight.

Instead, he went from the gambling hall to the complimentary buffet. It was somewhat of a necessary, rudimentary thing; most monsters in Luimira didn't eat preachy human food, so the lines of the buffet were more things like raw beef, human flesh, blood...the fun, gory sort of things you'd see in a cheesy horror movie. For those of more refined tastes, however, regular, civilized eats did exist in small portions. For the sake of blending in, Amias would settle for a small piece of raw meat. Though his body didn't require sustenance in this way, investigating this area would require him to blend in. So, while menially chewing away at his portion, the Pagan kept a close watch on the temperature of the sphere. It had increased in temperature only marginally since he'd left his conversation with Waylen, but even that was enough; he was going in the right direction. However, this most current assessment told him that the target was likely not within this room; he'd traveled a fair distance of the large building to reach the dining hall, only to experience marginal results. It was likely that his target was closer to the far end of the casino.

With this in mind, Amias quickly finished up his meal, stood from his chair, and made his way out of the room at a tourist's pace. On assignments like these, his ability to blend in and operate as a nobody was even more effective with a strategic use of Glory to Me. Similar to a magician's trick, he merely made the people around him more noticeable than he was, and this was a peculiarly good trick for stealth.

Amias's target was a gambling man, one who made his presence known among the men and women who owned High Moon. He was boistrous, loud and obnoxious but not stupid. A grouping of large guards stood watch, around him, a Banshee, a Vampire, a Dreadnought and a Djinn he kept on a short leash and a long payroll. They were always watching, always aware to the best of their ability for suspicious activity. And they were damn good at the job of protecting the man, who himself was a slippery target being that he was an assassin and a shade. For the moment no one had any reason to be searching for suspicion beyond the ever present threat of the siphons. And the target was simply enjoying a hand of poker with six other well off individuals, each with a guard or two of little consequence.

It wouldn't be long before Amias had found his way back into the gambling room. Out of all the places in the Casino, this room in particular was where this orb warmed against his skin the absolute most. The target had to be here somewhere, and it was unlikely that they'd be an easy target to spot. The pagan was well more than old enough to know that you don't find someone by rushing in head first; it took a lot of his saved up money to do so, but Amias gradually worked his way around and across the room. Buying drinks--which didn't work due to his lack of internal organs--and gambling with quite a lot of the well to-do members of Luimiran society were his ticket to finding this individual with enough discretion to pass off as just another well-off member of Nocturne.

He would make his way around and across the room in what appeared to be a scattered fashion, though it was more accurate to say he was combing it. The orb was already much hotter than before, but it wasn't to that unbearable point that the Siphon hinted it would reach. From there, it didn't take long to see; a table where one man was being extremely boisterous and loud, surrounded by what looked like four tough customers. Without looking at them again, Amias walked up to the open seat on the table, about three chairs down from what he assumed to be his prey. "Is this seat open? I've been looking for a high bet table all day, but they always seem to be full..." At the beckoning of the adjacent players, Amias took a seat at the table. It appeared that all these men had something to be afraid of, and they grilled him immediately about his lack of guards. All the suspicious things about him were being called into question immediately. None of which were--however--about his appearance. He wore fine clothes, and blended in perfectly well with the crowd he was sitting and talking with, but their immediate concern was one he had a prepared answer for; where are your guards?

"Oh, my guards? Yeah...uhh...they actually quit without notice about two days ago. I haven't hired new ones yet, I'm afraid they're just going to quit too..." A somber look on his face; such a boisterous man would find it difficult not to start grilling what appeared to be such a downer. Against his skin, the heat of the orb was nearly unbearable, and it grew even hotter, slightly, when Amias glanced over at the shade. This was his opportunity; he just needed to play his cards in the most perfect way.

The Shade Eyed Amias, as did the rest of the table very suspiciously when he said they quit so suddenly, but as long as his money was good no one really cared that much. However, the shade's bodyguards were more careful and the dreadnought moved and sat between Amias and his mostly unsuspecting prey. All of the bodyguards were now keenly tuned into him in their own special ways.

For a while, the group would continue to keep gambling. It would become noticeable soon enough, though, that Amias hadn't beaten the dealer once since sitting at the table. He was always dealt the absolute worst hands by comparison to the rest of the table. The others around him began to chuckle and make jokes, being very immediately condescending about the terrible fortune of the pagan. Perhaps this was an effect of this strange, undetectable orb he'd been given? Either way, the man already understood what needed to be done.

"Not again...why is it always like this?" He muttered to himself, face in his hands. A complete picture of utter gloom. Perhaps--to the Shade, who likely experienced this since dealing with Kali--this would look very familiar. A terrible spree of misfortune until he found a way to escape the God's influence. "My wife, my bodyguards, and now my money...is there anything else left to go wrong?" By now, the other richies around the table were having an absolute field day, being unnaturally callous and cruel to the young man. Even by normal means, their sarcasm seemed to be absolutely hateful towards someone they'd never even met before.

When it seemed to be at its absolute peak, a female server carrying drinks on her arm...tripped and fell, spilling a whole team of drinks onto Amias' head and back. With his hair flat and dripping, and the richies around him howling with laughter, he could only mutter, "Just my luck."

Time droned on, and the games seemed to be moving in a horrible sort of direction for the new guest. Even moreso the people aroud the shade were making an absolute fool of the man. The shade, moreso than any of the rest of them, was apathetic in appearance, only glancing from the corner of his eyes as the string of bad luck only seemed to worsen. By the time the drinks had fallen the Shade, name of Orios, had his suspicians. It was too perfect. Too fresh in his mind. A tap on his finger like a nervous tick put his guards on alert moreso than before. "What did you say happened to your old guards?" he challenged from behind his guard's back. The rest of the table seemed to quiet, as Orios, ever the loud and lighthearted seemed uncharacteristically quiet.

For a short while, the Shade's words seemed to just bounce off Amias; it was almost as though the pagan wasn't entirely sure of where he was anymore. The drinks and the laughter had put him into a temporary state of disorientation. When he finally came to, his eyes just slowly wandered over to the shade, his voice...rather weak. "Oh...the guards. Yeah...they left a message with my housekeep saying they'd chanced upon riches untold. How lucky for them." And how very coincidental, that they'd chance upon riches no sooner than the man lost his own. Kali was a total, carnal b***h for those kinds of games. By now, the drinks had stopped dripping from his hair, but his clothes were absolutely soaked. "I guess...I should go clean myself up." He got up from the table and began a slow, careful stride towards the bathroom. Unfortunately for him, it was across the rather large room, and no less than three misfortunes came upon him during his 'walk of shame', each given the additional embarrassment of the devilish laughter from nearby occupants.

First, as he walked past a table, a rather angry dreadnought shoved his chair out in an attempt to get away from the table quickly, sweeping Amias' feet out from under him and knocking him to the floor. Devilish laughter. After getting back up, no sooner than he'd started walking had one of the servers turned her saucer around at the worst time, and with unexpected force. By some miracle, the saucer never let her hand, but the Pagan was unwittingly reunited with the floor. Devilish laughter.

The next misfortune would likely be the turning point for the shade. With his above par skills of observation, it was likely that he would see the ceiling fan above Amias begin to sway in an unnatural manner. What would seal the deal, though, would be the strange, blood orange energy crackling along the fan's connection to the ceiling. Being that they were in Nocturne, the fan was--of course--lined with bones and blades in purely grotesque fashion, despite how nice the rest of the room was. The best adornment was of course the silver blade sticking out of the bottom of the fan. As Kali's blood orange energy finally broke the attachment cables--an energy the shade would recognize all too well--the ceiling fan would begin its silent descent; on a crash course with Amias' skull. The Pagan pretended not to notice, continuing to play on his act of a disoriented man, completely devoid of all luck. As the scene progressed, it seemed to play out in slow motion. The rich men and women around him saw it, but all they did was point and wait for the outcome. A man, about to become a victim to Kali.

What was the cured man to do, about the curse of another?
