Hello everyone. You can all just call me Whammy, and I'm currently a sophmore in high school. Interests outside of philosophy include politics, strategy games (Roman Era and Age of Exploration-Napoleonic as my favorite), roleplaying, and history.

My interest in philosophy has stemmed from my AP European History class, and I've begun working myself from their. One thing I need to get clear with right now is that, for the most part, I tend to be more into political philosophy than anything else. My favorite philosophers have, so far, included the following; Machiavelli, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes, and Adam Smith.* Right now, I'm working on reading through their works, with Theory of Moral Sentiments by Adam Smith being the one I'm currently working on.

Anyways, hope that gives you a small glimpse into my psyche. If you need more, don't worry. You'll get it through reading posts.

Edit:
I was wondering about something. I was looking through the directory of threads and found one that interested me. However, the last post was in July. I was just wondering if I should just bump that thread up and 'hijack' it so to speak, or just make an entirely new thread?

hey new here, I generally hate talking about myself so if you want to know ask. I'll just say I tend to enjoy existential philosophy, and social constructionist theory . . . which can make me seem like an nihilist or absurdist, but if you were to assert that you'd be absurd, I just think human existance is a paradox thats all. wink

Morning everyone. I'm not big on hypothetical debate, so please no "what's the meaning of life" or "why do humans exist" and the like. I'm more toned toward morality and scenario based logic. Psychology is a big interest to me. Why people think the way they do. How they'll react in given scenarios. My soon to be wife is currently about to finish her third year in college, studying to be a psych. major and it makes it real nice to have discussions with her, but sometimes she can't keep up with me. Ironic in some ways, being that I dropped out of college, though to pay to keep my family eating (as my father had just had a stroke mid-way through my senior year in high school).
Which I guess brings me to mentioning I drive a forklift for a living. And further brings me to pointing out I'm here to have a chance to talk about something besides how many women one particular co-worker has had sex with this week and whether I'd do Jessica Alba.

Hey. This is my first guild. I haven't spent much time on Gaia besides the forums and, sadly enough, there isn't really a music guild for the type of music I like best. I'm happy there's a forum for my other great passion. Anyway, my background primarily consists of the great books of Western Civilization from Plato to Kant. I've mainly read these books in college (I'm currently a junior) but where I go we get to see a lot. I also know a bit of Eastern Philosophy and I'm planning on getting a masters in it. Right now I'm trying to understand what came before me so my views are still developing. I do have some solid beliefs but I'd rather they come naturally in conversation than telling them outright. Anyway, nice to meet you all. biggrin

I joined this guild because I love philosophy especially when I can fit it into my life. Philosophy is something great.

My real name is Shauna, but don't call me that. I turn 17 tomorrow.
I love music, and I listen to pretty much anything except county and rap.
I plan on continuing onto university to peruse either creative writing or philosophy, because really the first doesn't work as well without the second.
I joined Gaia a bit over 4 years ago, and I've been leaving but this guild seems to be interesting so I'll stay.
I got really hooked on philosophy recently while I've been taking a course on philosophy, before then I'd do some reading but not much.
If philosophy is my lover Psych is my boy-toy, especially that of serial killers.

Hello! My name's Maria, and you can feel free to call me that, or Daffodil, or anything else that reasonably resembles my real name or username. I always feel old when I tell my guilds my age - I'll be 23 in a couple of months. Birthdays after 21 are boring. whee I'm going to be graduating with my BA in music this December, after five and a half years of college wherein I changed my major three times. My focus is on clarinet and I took secondary voice as well. I'm also aiming for a psychology minor, though I'm not quite sure if I'll end up with enough psych hours to officially have it on my degree.

I haven't been keeping up with my philosophers like I should be - the last decent philosophy class I had was in 2003 and I've since forgotten most of the specifics, but my philosophy books are in line to be read soon. In high school, my main concern with philosophy was contemplating God as I had been taught to view him/her/it, and basically trying to fit a deity into a little box I had. I've since realised that this doesn't really get me anywhere but frustrated, and my view of god has changed drastically. I've identified as an atheist for a while now, but I recently realised that I could probably call myself a theistic atheist and be just as correct, though certainly contradictory.

Anyway, that's a matter for another thread, I suppose. I am glad to be here, where it feels comfortable and welcoming, as opposed to the main forums which are often hostile and full of trolls. I've rambled quite a bit now... I'm a little loopy due to lack of sleep, so I'm going to stop talking now. XD

My name is Tim, or Antiockus, which ever. I recently graduated high school, and am now planning on college. Philosophy is something I have been interested in since reading Ayn Rand's Anthem. The individual vs. society is my primary interest in philosophy.

Bonjour!
My name is Sarah. I live in Oklahoma. I have a couple degrees and I very much enjoy discussing religion and philosophy. I may be a bit out of touch just now, but I hope to catch up soon! smile I have studied quite a few of the previous mentioned folk. More than discussing what other people write though, I lilke to hear what people say themselves. Hope to get a chance to "talk" with lots of you!
