Niko stiffened slightly at Mariahs words. Please, don't let her tell Bana. Somehow, Mariah knew about Shadow. But how? He glanced at Yuki and Irene, then back at Mariah, not moving from his protective position in front of Irene.

Irene was still on the ground, but her fear tured to anger. "Mariah, don't." 'She must have read our minds that first encounter, she knows about Shadow!' Irene had to think of something quick. "Bana, don't listen to her. Don't give yourself to her because of me." Irene looked down, ashamed. "Bana just know I care for you, and I just want you and the others to be safe."

Irene interrupted. She had to keep Niko's secret safe. "Found out..." Irene had to think of something quick, but not a lie. "That it's because of me that the village is dead? No, I didn't tell her. But I didn't for your safety Bana, I promise I would never lie to you."

Bana clutched the necklace then looked over at the others then back at Mariah. Then looked back at the ground not fully sure what to do. 'She said she wouldnt harm them, so giving her the necklace wouldnt hurt the others..but Miss Irene isnt doing to well...without the necklace she might realy be in trouble...' Bana got frustrated not liking having to make choices that would effect other people then her eyes fixed on the necklace. 'whats so special about this stupid necklace anyway?! why does Mariah want it?!' Bana gripped the necklace as looked at it not sure what to do. Bana then looked up at Irene and the others. Bana looked up at Irene totaly confused. "So...Mariah was telling the truth that you destroyed the village?"

Irene wasn't aware Mariah told her that. But it wasn't the whole truth. Yes, it was her fault. The whole reason the village was burned by the bandits was because they thought she was in the church with the rest of the town, and they burned the rest just in case. And yes, she was too afraid to do anything about it, een though she was supposed to be the heir ruler of the town.
So it was true, and to keep Niko safe there was only one answer that would fit. Irene looked down, helpless. "Yes Bana, and it's something I regret every day." Irene looked back up at Bana. "I don't want you to have to make a hard choice like this, and I just want you to know that whatever you choose, I'll try anything in my power to gain your trust again. You, Yuki, and Niko mean the world to me." Irene looked down real quick as she tried to hide her tears.

((All right, see you later!)) Mariah laughed. "How touching. Can't live with the fact that the death of thousands was on your head, huh Irene? You're as pitiful as ever, sharing the emotions with those around you and never being abe to control your power without the little trinket. While I can read minds, and contro the same powers that you can't. I may not be able to hurt you while Bana is on my side, but it seems like I will always have the upper hand anyway. Just like when we were kids."

Bana looked at the necklace 'The old man can make miss Irene a new one, right? That way this wont matter to much...right? If Miss Mariah was telling the truth about the village, what else is she telling the truth about?' Bana looked at Irene then turned to Mariah and walked toward her. "If I give you the necklace your not going to use it to harm my freinds right?" Bana asked as stood infront of Mariah.

Irene looked down shamefully. Mariah was right, even as children Mariah was always the best at everything. And now, Irene's only hope was for another necklace. She wondred if the old man could transfer the magic to new one. Irene was unsure, there couldn't be two necklaces at once or her power would go haywire. She could probably even die. But if he could, then Mariah would know it. A thought struck her, she looked up at Niko with fear in her eyes. "She's going to go after Merlin!" She mouthed.
Sure enough, there were bandits around Merlin's home waiting for the signal. Merlin was aware of this, but made no move to leave or do anything about it.

Mariah nodded. "By my word, no harm will come to these three. I swear to not hurt them. But Bana, I can't keep my word if you don't keep yours. I will leave them right now if you give me the neckace, and you have to come with me."

Bana glanced back at the others then looked back at Mariah seeing no other way to keep the three safe. "Deal." Bana said as held the necklace out to Mariah.

Niko bit his lower lip slightly. The chances were good that Irene was right. THe old man was in trouble, but he couldn't leave Irene here. He looked around, and saw that Yuki had vanished. She had read Irenes lips and gone back to the village. He relaxed slightly. Yuki would make sure the old man was okay.
"Bana, don't listen to her," Niko said to the child, the glow around his hands intensifying. "Whether or not she harms us will make no difference if she brings harm to everyone else. And who says that she will continue to keep her word?" He was determined not to let Mariah get away with this, no matter what. If he had to fight, then so be it. As long as he was careful to avoid bloodshed, it would be alright for him to fight.
Yuki ran back to the village, keeping her arrow to her bow. She'd have to trust that Niko wouldn't transform or do anything stupid while she was gone. She skidded to a stop at the edge of the forest, seeing the old mans hut up ahead. So many bandits... Yuki held her arrows up, sighted on the bandit closest to her, and released.

Bana looked at Niko then looked at Mariah once again confused and regripped the necklace. "What do you want the necklace for anyway Mariah?" Bana asked.

Irene took a deep breath, and was finally able to stand up. Though it took effort and she swayed a bit. She was still too weak to use any of her powers. She felt she wouldn't be able to control them without the necklace anyway. She still spoke weakly, but walked slowly and carefully to Niko's side. "Mariah. You have enough power to rule the world. And with me unable to use my powers to stop you, that dream is in clear sight isn't it? Is ruling the world all you want out of this?"
The bandit fell dead to the ground, sparking the other's attentions. The second closest bandit jumped from one of the tree branches and revealed a dagger. He planned to take Yuki out quickly. He got close to her with nearly blinding speed and swung his dagger.

Yuki's eyes widened. "Ah!" She ducked down to the ground just in time, the dagger cutting off the ends of her hair. Changing her grip on her arrow, she slipped a bit more to the side so she was underneath the bandit, thrusting up hard with the pointed end of the arrow. Niko wasn't around, so she didn't have to worry about spilling blood.
Niko looked over at Irene, one hand no longer glowing so he could gently hold onto one of her arms, helping her to stay standing. The glow on his other hand intensified. He was just waiting for Bana to get away from Mariah before he attacked.
