Kiefer laughed, moving backwards and closing his eye's so Journey's splash wouldn't get him. It was a nice, genuine laugh. Sometimes he was with another, and he would laugh even if he wasn't entirely amused, just because it seemed like the right thing to do at the time.

He watched Journey pose, his mouth opening a bit. She really...really was quite good looking. Perhaps the best he had seen. Right now she was. He looked down. What strange thoughts. He didn't normally think that sort of thing. Maybe the loneliness was getting to him. Something had to be, because this wasn't like him. No, this wasn't like him at all.

He almost tripped backwards when she spoke, but then was incredibly relived when she broke concentration and laughed. It was...a weird feeling. A weird moment. Awkward wasn't quite the word. It was like there was a lot of tension. Neither positive nor negative...just...how it was.

He cracked a smile, realizing that he must have been staring like an idiot. He really didn't know how he was supposed to respond. He felt her look at him, and he suddenly felt quite tense again. He flipped his hair so it whipped back to show his bright green eyes. They were his favorite feature.

Woaah. Why did he do that? Kiefer knew what he looked like. He wasn't some silly stallion that obsessed over himself, but he was at least aware of his features. He knew his eyes were rather unique and interesting against his golden coat. He also knew that when his hair was wet the stripes would mush together and look odd. But he had never actually... tried to change himself to show them off more. Particularly just impulsively like that.

He jumped a bit when she spoke again. "Wait...wha..." he said, trying to figure out what she was even talking about. He couldn't even remember why they were here...they were going to...what? Oh man... he just couldn't think straight. It was a blur, a huge block that came if his mind tried to stray.

She quirked her head to the side a bit. Was he joking, or had he really forgotten what they were doing in the water on a day like this? She could tell that he was most certainly not joking, which worried her momentarily... had something affected his mind? Was there something wrong with him? She saw how he had reacted to her little joke. Maybe she had offended him?

No, she was assuming again, and everyone knew what happened if you assumed. He merely forgot because she had been so distracted by her intent on stretching her wings, she had taken too long. Yup, that had to be it. Poor distracting Journey, taking too long again in stretching her wings out that her companion had forgotten what they were doing there. Should she take it as an insult?

She scolded herself in her own mind. Kiefer was most definitely not like that... she could see it in his bright, swimming green eyes. Suddenly, as if she had been pushed off a cliff into the ocean, she felt as though she was drowning in his eyes, her own hazel ones quickly turning away from his as though she had been caught in an embarrassing act. Instead, she glanced toward the sky, but she didn't take in its current appearance.

"I b-believe we c-came here to b-b-bathe you," she said, stuttering slightly. The stutter? Oh great. The stutter only came when she was nervous, or embarrassed. How could she be either right now? She was just friends with Kiefer... right?

Or had something grown in the past, oh, say few minutes, that made her spine tingle, her heart beat faster, her eyes glaze over? For the first time in her life, Journey felt unsure, her self-confidence plummeting to below her hooves, under the stream. Journey looked to his matted golden coat again, and immediately thought to herself that Kiefer was definitely not half-bad. Not at all. To tell herself the truth, she felt as though Kiefer's attitude and personality, combined with his stunning looks, and those eyes, made him the most handsome thing in the world to her. She suddenly felt exposed, nervous... and she felt as though Kiefer could tell.

But she put on her happy smile again, and repeated, "Let's get you started with your bath."

Kiefer met her gaze again. She seemed confused, maybe hesitant. Why? She probably thought he was stupid for forgetting why they were there. Maybe he was. Maybe he was going crazy. How could he forget something so...so simple as what they were doing in such a short amount of time? Now not only was he socially awkward, oh no, he was insane as well.

Kiefer realized that they were staring at each other.

Journey then broke the gaze that seemed to take hold of him, and looked down. For a moment it was as if their eyes were connected and he couldn't stop. It was like you were pulling a rope that was stuck to something, and then it finally let loose, and you fell on your but. He had mentally fallen on his butt. Oh Joy.

His ears perked. Her voice was shaking. She sounded nervous. Was it possible that he wasn't the only one that felt bathed in tension? Was it possible that she had this overwhelming feeling of... whatever this was?

Bathing...bathing? Of course! He was here take a bath! Kiefer grinned and nodded like an idiot. "Oh! Yes! My bath!" he said. How will this happen. He know how to bathe. He didn't need someone to tell him. But she could help him...perhaps? After all, he knew that mares were much better when it came to cleaning themselves.

"How...exactly...do we start?" he asked, for the first time looking back up at her.

She was so pretty. He couldn't stand it. Maybe it was the desperate loneliness. Maybe He was just in a weird mood. He didn't know, he didn't care. He just know that she was amazing. But she probably didn't think the same about her. Oh know. She was too pretty. Her gorgeous wings, her soft eyes, the way her colors so complimented themselves. She probably saw him as some scummy ugly stallion, and she was doing him some charity act by helping him.

Oh, how cruel life was.

She felt her face burn for an instant after she pulled her gaze away from Kiefer, but it wasn't the kind of burn she usually got from the afternoon sun. It was the kind of burning cheeks that she got when she was embarrassed or when she was nervous. She was rarely ever nervous, but when she was... it was serious.

Journey stopped dead. How would they start without being totally and completely... awkward? Somehow, in the past few minutes, things had changed between the pair, and quite truthfully, Journey was in her own uncharted territory. It reminded her of something Will had said to her once about he and his mate, Waneta, but she couldn't quite put her hoof on what it actually was...

She stepped closer to him and splashed a bit of water on his coat. "Just... get wet, first," she giggled, batting her eyelashes in his direction.

Oh dear god. What had she become? A flirty, giggling mess. Great, just great. She had done her entire herd proud now, being the girly-girl she had always refused to be and falling all over herself over a stallion.

Yet, there was a portion of her that would not make herself believe that Kiefer would ever think of her in the same way that she thought of him. Though he seemed modest in his comments about making friends, she had the strangest feeling that there were probably more than one other mare that had the same, or even stronger, feelings for him as she did. It made her heart hurt with the harsh reality, but she didn't want to get hurt by the stallion, didn't want to throw herself out there for nothing and lose her friend.

"J-J-just d-dunk your h-he-head under," Journey stuttered, trying to mask it by employing a false sneeze. "You'll g-g-get soaked fah-fah-faster."

Kiefer moved his tail back and forth through the warm water, the stripes getting all mushed together. He couldn't meet her eyes again. He just couldn't. He might say something that he didn't mean. Or did mean. Or didn't understand.

Was this love? Or perhaps lust? The stallion was young, naive to these feelings. There was such a fine line between the two, and sometimes it blurred and was undecipherable. He just couldn't tell. Love seemed...well, this was far too quick. He felt the loneliness catching up to him, the jealousy to those who had archived that desirable feeling...

But how does one deal with such a thing? Act on ones feelings, or run away from them? Kiefer prided himself for his bravery. And he had been doing a whole lot of running lately. He was quite tired of it.

He watched her giggle. So pretty. Perhaps she did have similar feelings as herself. The way her speech was so inconsistent, how nervous, but eager she seemed.

He dunked under as she suggested. There, he mad a decision. He just had to say something. He was tired of running away. He had to face his feelings, his problems, head on. Was this the most mature way to deal with the way he felt, or even the right way? Probably not. But he was reckless by nature. The future...he needed to just let it go and be himself for once.

"You look beautiful" he said, letting the words slip out of his lips like satin. He almost immediately wanted to take it back, and then changed his mind. No. No more regret. He had to own his actions.

The stallion took a step closer to the mare.

Journey watched Kiefer dunk his head under with a bit of glee. Trust was one of the best things in her life, and the stallion had trusted her; it made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside at the thought. Oh dear god.

When Kiefer had commented her, something in her brain just clicked. A gear rotated creakily, dust and caked-on debris falling quickly from the effort and turning another gear. She was able to understand now. She was able to understand why she felt like what she did around Kiefer.

She truly did love him, to an extent. It wasn't that she didn't love him, but it wasn't as though she loved him the way Will loved Waneta, or Oliver loved music. It was more of a... "I'd die for you, I want to be with you from now on," kind of thing.

And it scared her. Things were moving much too quickly for her taste, much too quickly for how intense and strong the feelings for the golden stallion with the beautiful green eyes were.

Yet, it wasn't as frightening as she thought it would be. Somehow, the thought of being able to see Kiefer everyday made her feel jittery, happy, as though she could spread her wings and just float away from happiness. She hadn't felt that feeling in a long time, and she truly enjoyed it.

"Th-th-thank you," she fumbled, her cheeks burning and her tail flicking nervously. As Kiefer took a step towards her, the bath forgotten, she returned the favor by taking another tentative step towards him. It made her heart flutter, but it was an enjoyable flutter.

Oh lust, the most dangerous of all the sins. Dancing about in her lascivious ways, entrancing the young into her claws. Dangling love like the most tempting jewel, glimmering with lies and contradictions. So wonderful, but who could guess that the gem was just plastic?

Kiefer was never perfect. But he had never really done anything horrible. He snuck away from his parents. Sometimes he said things he didn't mean. Sometimes he got angry, or lazy. But nothing irreversible. Nothing he couldn't easily take back with an 'I'm sorry". The thought of something so permanent as love, something that seems so far away just hours ago...but so close. It scared him, and enthralled him.

His eyes fell to the ground for a moment, listening to her response, both physically and verbally. She had moved closer. She hadn't shyed away. That had to mean something. Perhaps she had the same intentions on her mind.

Then again, Kiefer didn't even know his intentions. He just knew that he wasn't thinking, and things seemed so much easier when he just let his hormones do the talking. Just so much easier.

"You're welcome" he said, a whisper, just inches away into her ear. He wondered briefly if she could hear his heart beat. Because he felt is ringing in his ears like a beating drum, faster and faster.

He felt excitable, as if he could go run miles and miles. But he didn't want to. He wanted to stay right here for now, because there was no where else that he could feel like this for such a beautiful mare.
