 She had flopped down on her belly as well, a small grin on her own maw. Perhaps it was the release of stress, the fear that lost its grip, but she could not help the playfulness that had taken hold, an excitement visible in every motion.
"Oh...but can't you be friends with whoever you want to?"
A small frown furrowed her brow. Slave, that word again, she had heard it before, her mother had tried to tell her about it, but she still didn't understand. Why were they slaves and what did it mean? If they wanted to be friends shouldn't they be allowed to? Well she certainly thought so, and if her and Spaki wanted to be friends too, well then they would.
"She did? What kind of promise?"
Ears flicked, her head titled curiously, what would he need her to promise?

"Not exactly.. " He sighed. "Basicaly, we, " The we being his pride. "Sorta believe that.. we're better. " It was almost painful to try and say this to someone else's face. "We're firekin. And if you step on our borders.. You're either chased out, or enslaved or.. " He swallowed slightly, not sure if he wanted to bring such a grim topic to Hua'yin. She seemed so innocent.. "Killed, " He said, almost a whisper. "Your mom was enslaved.. basically, she has to do everything we tell her to. She has no choice. Azula, that lioness you were with, is one of us. Slaves usually have masters.. I don't know if Azula is Meilin's, but.. " He hesitated.
"I am your master. Because Meilin asked me to be. " Spaki frowned, trying to say everything quickly so that she didn't step in-- or to avoid more questions. "But I don't agree with slavery.. so I'm not gonna treat you like my slave. But I have to.. well, pretend to, at least. " He shrugged. "Else they'll know I'm doing something wrong. " He sighed. Now, onto the promise.
"So this is what I need you to promise me-- when anyone besides me, your siblings, Meilin, Vian, or Uuo are around, act very obedient to me, and like you aren't exactly.. happy. " After all, it would be a little suspicious if he had a very happy slave. Usually they weren't exactly cheerful. "Like I'm being at least.. sorta mean. 's what I'm expected to do. " He didn't like being mean to everyone-- because not everyone deserved it. "Ok? "

"Oh..."
He eyes fell, looking down at her paws. Had she been wrong? Was he really cruel as the lioness was? Master, slave, what did it mean and why was it this way? Her mother had spoken those words to her as well, but she was too young to understand, or maybe the words simply hadn't sunk in to the young mind.
But, Spaki was nice, they would only pretend to be master and slave? But they could really be friends? If mother had asked him to be her master, then that must be it, she wouldn't ask a cruel lion to be her master.
"Okay, I promise, I won't tell anyone."
She looked up again, tail flicking, a small smile on her maw. There was hope in her eyes. She would soon understand that the life of a slave was harsh, even with a kind master such as Moto'Spaki, but through it all, the hope she had found would always remain, a hope she would never let go.

He sighed in relief, closing his eyes for a few moments. Good, she understood. "Thanks, " Spaki smiled, then stood up again. "Come on, lets go get some water. " In the desert there weren't that many water-places for the pride, so the lions had grown fairly used to not drinking sooooo so much, even though a little over a few times a day.
"There might be other lions, tho. So prepare to be ready to act. " He said, half-seriously then turned in the direction towards that one watering hole, or oasis might be a better word, in their territory.
"It'll be nice to get something to drink. "
