Jester, was practicing with his talent. If one can really call his own brand of caterwauling a talent. His feet never seemed to want to follow in time with his....squawking. Usually ending up feet over feathers on his backside, or worse.
But today he had a renewed sense of fervor in his practicing. He had secretly watched from outside of the CrownLeaf Theater. How he longed to be a member of the Brigadiers Bards.
Lost in his own song, his feet not falling in time he belted out with all his energy, "Ohhhhh.....whennnnn the Mooooon..whennnnn it dothhhhh faaAAAAALLLLL...."
Singing to no one in particular his voice could carry for miles.

Lore grinned. "Just Lore is fine. The ending is 'valliant' or something. I think it means brave, but in a stupid way. Dodger does need a longer name, though. How about Dodgeriffic. Or, um, Dodgerina. Or, er...." Lore slowly stopped, realising her ideas for names maybe weren't the best in the forest when the others started staring at her. Suddenly she heard a noise worse than her re-naming ideas. "Dear Night! Is that a Sentinal or a dying lepus?" Lore winced. "I think it might be coming closer, but it's hard to tell because my ears are kinda ringing."

"Iunno, Dodger's always been long enough for me," she mumbled, eartufts flattening still further at the caterwauling in the distance. Ugh, is that noise coming closer? Her head swivels about to allow the fledgling to pin her gaze in the direction of the source of that noise, bright eyes watching eagerly. Maybe it's a Pica! But even that exciting possibility can't hold her attention for too long... Seeming a little unsettled now, Dodger shifts her weight from one foot to the other and pulls her gaze away from the mysterious noise. She's quieted down a lot now, and seems content to let the others chatter away without her input.

A caterwauling of noise slammed into Rune's sensitive ears, causing her to visibly wince as a look of exasperation fell upon her features. When will it end? From her careful observation of Dodger, she had at least noticed that she had quieted considerably. What was making that noise? She couldn't even tell if it was close or where it was even coming from. The forest seemed to echo the noise towards her and she shifted uncomfortably and hoped it would leave as quickly as it had come... However something made her doubt this.
Syz had quieted himself to match Dodger's calmed disposition and was currently fluffed out and hunkered close to her, a smug and happy smile on his beak. Well that was two now, Rune thought to herself.
The noise had taken to a new, and especially piercing pitch that seemed even more effective at reaching her than before, "I can't be sure what it even is... can a Sentinel even make that kind of noise?" She paused for a slight moment, "Maybe it's hurt..."

Jester's singing continued to the point that his feet could no longer keep still on his perch. Slowly but surely he started to move dramatically out of time to his wailing. A hop here, a dip there, nothing seemed to make outward sense, but somehow it all came together in Jesters head.
"Whyyyyyy doesss the skyyyyy.."
He picked up a twig and began twirling it in his left foot, leaving him slightly unbalanced. Quickly recovering from that by stomping his foot back down on the perch. Unfortunately he perch he was sitting on was a dead branch of the great pine.
"SeEEEEEm so HIIIIIIIIGH!"
In that very ungraceful stomp, the last of the branch's strength gave, and it snapped with a loud crack. Loud enough to pull Jester out of his song in time to let out a screech as he fell.
Landing with a thud 4 branches below. Blinking away the shock, Jester looked ahead of him 6 branches or so only to spot others in the trees with him.
"Oh dear.." He gulped.

Rune managed a few blinks before slowly coming back to herself, considering her words hesitantly, "Are you... hurt?" The words were a mixture of concern and surprise. After all, it had been a Sentinel despite her previous doubts and she looked him over with a still slightly flustered look on her face. This bird had been the one singing and had then plummeted from the loftier branches into their presence, causing Rune to question her fate; she was convinced life was out to get her. At least he seemed to be aware of the rather awkward situation and Rune began to wonder if perhaps he had over-heard any of their earlier comments.
Blinking open his eyes, Syz peered up at the Bard in wonderment, having dosed off despite the ruckus Jester had created. "You're a Bard! Can you sing us a song?!" At this, Rune's eyes snapped open and she quickly butted in, "I'm sure he's in no mood to sing after that fall." And she was in no mood to hear one either.

Jester stared at Rune for a beat or two before he began to pick himself up out of the branches. "Uh..Oh I'm fine. This seems to happen from time to time." Jester lied slightly, it happened nearly every time. It took Jester a few moments to pull himself up off his tail feathers then smooth them over quick, before perching on the new branch.
Tentatively he gave the new perch a slight stomp, just to assure himself of its ability to hold him. Then looking towards his new found company.
"I'm called Jester. I apologize for...dropping in on you like this. See I am a Bard, and well.." Jester's feathers ruffled in embarrassment a bit,"I was practicing." Jester swallowed hard as the little companion asked him to sing again. Truth be told the fall had knocked the song out of him for the moment.
"Please give me a few moments little one." Jester told the excited companion. Then bowing slightly to the Sentinel, who had addressed him. "I apologize."

Struck dumb once again by the sudden appearance of the source of the noise, Dodger does nothing but goggle at the intruder for a few moments. He and Rune get a chance to speak uninterrupted, until... "I think I gotta.." she peeps quietly, then clears her throat and starts again, "Gotta, gotta go. Yeah, it's getting late an' I was s'posed to go see if I could find another Teacher who'd, uh..." be willing to teach her at all, since most Teachers give up on the fledgling before the first lesson is finished. "Who wasn't busy," Dodger finished lamely.
"S'nice to meet you, Syz. An' Rune! AndLorevali-er-andJester." The words trail after the hasty little fledgling, as she is already making good on her exit. Of course, she's traveling at typical fledgling speed - flapping from branch to branch, clambering about - so if anyone really wanted to follow her it wouldn't be terribly difficult.

Jester looked past the larger Sentinel for a moment to see the fledgling, shy away and clambering over the branches. Feeling bad, thinking it was his fall, and or singing, that scared the little one away, "Oh please don't leave! I didn't mean to frighten you." Jester called out softly.
Making a slight move to the side so he could better see the fledgling. Taking notice of the beautiful coloration it had. Never had he seen one so adorable and colorful, that was so small.
Looking back to the other Sentinel, slightly worriedly. "I hope I didn't scare the poor dear off." Knowing full well it might have been his practice that scared the little one.

"Bye!" said Lore quickly as Dodger took off. Lore stared after Dodger, then back at Jester, then looked at Dodgers path of retreat again. Lore seemed to come to a hasty decision, and started backing away. "Er, it was nice to see you, Rune, and... er... nice to... Jester.... but er... practice hunting.... cracked nail.... Gotta go, bye!!" Lore gave up and tried to quickly take off after Dodger and away from the source of the "music." Unfortunatly for her, a branch that had been set swinging in Dodger's wake caught her from the side and Lore landed back where she had started. A bit dazed, Lore managed a disapointed "Er... or not... Nice, er, weather we're having, huh?" Before running off again.

Jester looked even more worried as the other Sentinel flew off in the fledglings wake. Now very worried he has frightened two of his kin off. Shifting his weight from foot to foot nervously, looking to the Sentinel that first addressed him. Looking for some sort of word or way to make this not seem what it very well may be. Never before had others of his kind run away from him, and he was very bereft.
Ear feathers lowering as his entire body seemed to hunch slightly. "Why do they leave so hastily?" he asked with a croak of worry in his voice.

Rune suddenly found herself in quieter company, though it seemed she had instead traded one for another. Lore seemed ready to leave and Jester was now in low spirits, causing Rune to feel somewhat obligated to stay. She sighed a bit to herself and situated her feathers and beads once more. It was important to keep the beads apart from the rest of her charms, seeing as they rustled and caused noise if they touched. They were placed far enough apart on her feathers so that they rarely disturbed each other, though they still were a good excuse to busy herself.
"Very nice weather!" Syz added, popping in happily, "I don't like the rain. Do you?"
Rune looked up from her arrangements at Jester's disheartened question. "I'm sure she just had to go. She seems the type to leave as suddenly as she came." Rune wondered how she had gotten so soft in her old years. Why she cared if someone else's feelings were in jeopardy was now beyond her and she blamed the fledglings that she had worked with previously throughout her long years. This caused Rune to remember with a tinge of annoyance that the new hatchling were all coming of the age where they would need guidance with their Wills, which of course was her job.

He watched the other adjust the beads held in her feathers carefully, taking a liking to the sound they made when they did strike each other. As he looked back to the others leaving, he had never felt so shunned before. He didn't know how to react, so he did so in the only way he knew how....he sang.
"Ohhhhhh Whyyyyy...."he wailed in a sorrowful tone, "must they FLEEeeeeeeeee from MEeeeeee?!"
His notes were still just as sour as before, but some how more fervent then they've ever been. And just as swiftly as the notes came, they left. Jester could never stay to sad for to long. He caught sight of the companion again and grinned.
"Yes!" he chattered, "Beautiful weather! I'm called Jester, how are you called?"

"Syz! For Syzygy!" He added in the second part after his previous conversation with Rune concerning his full name, fluffing out his chest a little as he said it. Syz was completely oblivious to the effect of the singing and he added in his own few notes that rang out in stark contrast. It had a higher pitch and seemed to quaver as he moved his beak, reminding listeners of a brook as its waters bubbled over rocks.
Syz enjoyed singing and would frequently babble away his chirps to Rune while she busied herself in her roost. He didn't seem to mind Jester's unique voice and sung along as if he was completely deaf to the tone murdering act taking place just next to him. "Why do you have no friend to sing with you, like a little Parus?" He asked innocently, genuinely concerned for any bird that might have to sing to himself. He always had Rune there to hum along with him, though she would never admit to doing anything of the sort outside of her nest. But every bard needed someone to sing to!

Jester fluffed up in excitement when the Parus chirped along with his song. He had never had another sing with him before and it thrilled him. Syz's question caught Jester off guard. Why didn't he have a companion?
"You know, I don't know the answer to that question Syz. I guess I never really thought about a companion before. It would be nice to have someone as excited as you about singing to sing with me." Jester mused out loud.
Looking thoughtfully off into nowhere, then blinking back to look at Rune. "I'm sorry Ma'am, but I never did catch your name." Feeling a little awkward that he had literally fallen into her conversation and scared off her previous company.
