It's easy to get rid of the 'are you sure' thing without entirely replacing Vista, though. You can just delete the program that does it. Slightly reduced security, but in most cases it doesn't really matter.
That's not the only reason people "upgrade" to Xp. Sometimes they don't have the money to spend on more Ram. Or, they just can't afford to replace thier fax machines, and printers and stuff due to a lack of drivers.
Vista won't work for everyone, and is not always userfriendly. Sure the screen might be pretty, but you take a car and buff it up to look good but if doesn't run and take you anywhere, being pretty is pretty useless.
