He looked around, afraid somebody would hear. Brave in his own right, Haki knew when they were doing something stupid. And coming into the Elephant Graveyard was VERY stupid, especially without an adult. What if something attacked them? What if... A loud whoop, NOT from the pup, made him shudder, eyes as large as saucers. "Tai, let's go, there's an ADULT near by!"

Even Raziel had to stop. He knew that whoop... He knew it VERY well. "Mother..." He looked at the two cubs, thinking as fast as he could. He had the dislike of lions ingrained from birth, but... Did he really want them DEAD? He decided that no, no he didn't. Shoving the lion cub off, he looked around. "Follow me if you want to live..."

Even Tai would admit, the whoop of the adult sent a chill to his core. A pup was one thing... An ADULT was a whole other ball game! Letting go, he eyed the pup. "Why should we trust you?"

"Because if you don't, my mother will eat you. She ENJOYS the taste of lion cubs! Now MOVE!" With a bit of a n**, he herded the two cubs towards the Graveyard border. He could hear movement behind him, though, and it worried him.

He wasn't about to argue - Haki ran. Stretching his legs out, he raced for the border. It was in sight, they were almost there! "We're gonna make it! Tai, we're gonna make it!" In an instant, though, this was shattered. Trying to put the brakes on, Haki struggled to stop before he ran right into the adult hyena that seemed to leap out of nowhere. Tai crashed into him, followed by the hyena pup.

Grinning wide, the half blind hyena watched the cubs skid to a stop only inches in front of her. "Raziel... You're proving more a hyena than your father..." Her tongue ran over her teeth as Schatz stepped closer, nosing the cubs. "Peh... Pridelanders... All the tastier." With a bit of a snarl, she stepped ever closer.

Thinking fast, Raziel got between his mother and the cubs. "If I'm supposed to be a better hyena than Dad, and live up to Grandma's greatness, don't I need to do it myself?" If anything would stop his mother... Maybe that would. He had to give them a chance to escape, though.

Schatz thought about this, then smiled. "Of course... Let me see you do it. Kill them, right now, in front of me. Show me you're a REAL hyena." She sat down, bi-colored tail curling. "Don't disapoint me, Raziel."

This would be hard to get around... He tried not to hesitate too much, ears flicking a bit. How WOULD he get around this? He didn't REALLY want to kill them... "Maybe we should... Um... Bring them before Grandma!" Wait, that was a BAD idea! Especially with the way his mother was grinning about it.

Letting out a laugh, the adult got up and paced. "You are becoming something, Raziel... Take them before Mafa..." A little shiver went up her spine, pleasantly so. "Good boy, already working to impress your alpha." She stopped, looking at him. "Remember that one day, you'll be proving yourself to your aunt."

Well, this was as good an opertunity to distract! "Why my aunt, why not my sister? Micah's a great hyena... And she's the oldest." He gave a sniff, tail flicking. "I'd rather bow to her any day if Grandma bit the dust."

Schatz had to stop at this, staring at her son. Her daughter, alpha? Sufficiently distracted, she paced to mull this over. No, Micah wouldn't be alpha. It wasn't her fate. It was the fate of Mafa's daughter with Rasuli. Continuing to pace, Schatz mumbled to herself, walking off. "Must talk to Mafa about this... What an IDEA! Micah, an alpha..." It was pretty clear, she'd forgotten about the lion cubs.

Raziel threw the cubs a look, "RUN. Right now! Before she remembers and comes back!" As he started to hurry away, he stopped and looked back. "The dark one, what's your name? So I don't have to go 'Hey, you, with the blue eyes!' if we meet again."

Haki wasn't sure what prompted him, but before he ran, he glanced at the hyena. "It's Haki..." He didn't tell him about his twin, though. Tail curling, the deep brown cub ran. There was NO way he was staying here much longer! He only glanced back to make sure Tai was following, which he thankfully was, and soon cleared the border into the grasslands. The transition from the cool of the Graveyard to the heat of the savannah was instant, but he didn't mind. He was out of there, so was Tai, and they weren't dead!
