A deadpan stare was given to Jabril, one brow lifted to his amusing little performance. What a dork. Setsu approached the log and hopped ontop, claws etending from her front paws to maintain a secure grip. The snow was cold and bothersome. A glance to her right was enough to view the stretch of the gap, along with its dark depth below. That would be some fall.

...
Setsu blinked when half her vision was suddenly covered in brown, and she frowned to see that the scientist had stopped midway to rant. Her lack of atterntion had plastered the side of her face into his scratchy lab coat. -__-
"Top form my a**." Didn't he just admit moments ago that he couldn't even carry the weight of another? She butted her head into the others side, careful to keep her capricorn horn edged away. Though she was tempted to smack him right off the log with his comments.

"I'll have you know that this stuff is what's absorbing all my blood right now." Thank you very much. The subject of looks she didn't care about, thus didn't bother to reply to. The male moved forward, and Setsu followed on the bridge till they reached the other side. Stepping down onto firm ground, she sagged once more to her elbows and knees. Her equilibrium, or whatever was left with her blood loss, was thrown out the window with that log crossing.

Jabril turned around as soon as he heard the muffled thud that was Setsu falling to her knees.

This was so strange. He wasn't sure what to think. Could a dead creature truly need blood? What if he tried to tranfuse the blood of the living? It would die too, but she might be allergic, and...

He wasn't sure what to think. Unlike some experiments, this was something he'd only have one chance to do. Jabril doubted that Setsu's undead body would be forgiving of any mistakes. Blood clotting and immune response and cell growth were systems that only served the living.

"Oh, aye - tha' took somethin' out of ye. But we're almost there, yeh?" He said, in a low, rumbling voice. It might have sounded strange, coming from such an effeminate-looking male. "Listen, I know ye like t'play this close t'yuir chest, but ye ha' to tell me, so I do'nae mess this up on accident. Is there anythin' ye know tha' can kill ye? Rilly kill ye, so ye rest in th'ground like the rest o' em?"

Such questions would seem pointless to ask, sadly. Setsu had now reigns on what was considered normal or healthy for a kitsusagi body. And to have this extra status of undead on top of it, most details were lost in confusion. She was never even told the 'laws' of an undead body. There had been no guide book or manual.

Almost there? That's right, she could remember the general area now since her last visit. It wasn't too far away. The female kept her sights on her front paws, simply trying to think and see clearly. What was Jabril speaking about? Mess ups? Wait, yeah...she could easily see the male playing such mistakes. Body grew taunt as the male spoke about killing, being dead like what may be resting just under the soil.

"That can kill me?" That was valuable information to hand out. Not even she knew all that it entailed, but what little she did could be considered a weakness. Shifting to her paws once again, the kitsu turned ready to walk some more. "Just don't let me fall asleep then. There's no fixing to this body, just mending." New blood would be pointless, more like unneeded water. The only reason it affected her so was because it was draining now. But once the flow will stop, her undead form would continue along well without it.

Jabril rolled his eyes again.

"Ha' it yuir way, then."

Hadn't he proven that he thought she was too interesting to die? Jabril would be the last person to take advantage of Setsu's weaknesses, so long as she didn't attack him, or have an unfortunate attack of morality when it came to his experiments. But if she chose not to trust him, then it would be her fault if something went wrong.

The pair travelled in silence until they finally reached the entrance to Jabril's mountain lair. He keyed a sequence of numbers into the combination lock on the door and then let them both in. The place was still as cluttered as it had ever been, but it was warm, and the smell of ash and disinfectant wasn't too unpleasant.

"I think ye cannae make up up onto a surgical table, so we'll ha' t'do this on the ground. M'going t'find some painkillers an disinfect me paws. Get yuir shirt off so I can look a' that wound, yeh?"

Jabril trotted down a side passage, leaving Setsu to make herself comfortable in his sitting room. The fire was low and it was still full of comfortable rugs and pillows, though experimental apparatuses and chalkboards covered with equations still took up nearly half of the space. The west wall was occupied by a tall bookshelf.

Forget it. She had enough trying to be understood through her undead mask. There was nothing to be felt, so nothing to express. But each time it never failed to bother her, like it was a failure. Shame.

They made the rest of the way to the lab in silence, then made entry through the secured door. Still the same, if not with more details than she had time to look through. She nodded loosely to Jab's directions, non too enthusiastic for this event. But if it got rid of the nuisance in her side, then so be it.

Jabril left the room, and Setsu glanced around dully. She made her way to some chalkboards, tempted to grab the chalk and turn some minuses into equal signs and the like. Hmm, no. She wasn't that cruel as to ruin another's research. Heading back towards the rugged corner of the room, she began the process of removing attire. The shirt was connected to the sleeves, hoodie, and coat tail. Untying the material, she finally slid free of the cloth, letting it hang behind her at her belts. A paw rubbed uncomfortable at her neck, staying there to hide the scars driven into the skin there.

Setsu eyed the cut in her side with disdain, not bothering to touch the reddened fur there. All she could do now was wait, resting away from any rugs or pillows so not to stain them.

Setsu's de-robing was interrupted by the scuff of small, clawed paws. A messy brown-furred head peeked around the corner of the hallways entrance.

"Daaaa~ddy," a gravelly female voice called out. She flicked her tongue at the air, scenting it.

"Daaaa~ddy, I smell bloodsss~."

Setsu might recognize the kit as having the same coloration as the diabolical egg Jabril had picked up during the wild goose chase one of the Mountain Spirits had led them on.

The girl-child barreled into the room, a happy smile on her sharp maw. The firelight was dim, but that mustn't bother the kit. Her eyes were stitched shut.

"Daddy brought snackssss~!"

Dead flesh always meant something to munch on! Maybe Daddy brought her a deer or a rabbit.

...what the hell?

Eyes opened from their wait of the scientist, Setsu perking her ears to hear right this time. Daddy? Chin slid off her front paws across the ground as she peered to the other side of the room. Just there was....something, peeking inside and the source of the parental callings. Was that another experiment?

Some more analyzing told Setsu that it was some kitsu, but a species she'd never seen before. Horns shorter than her own graced it's head, and eyelids were sealed shut with stitches. Just what had happened to the youngster? The kit charged into the room, and Setsu was quick to stand on her four paws.

"So blood is your snacks?" A little carnivore, eh? The young kitsu did seem the type, with a jaw shaped like that. "Stick around, you might get lucky then." No telling how the procedure may fair.

"Ssssnacks is talki~ng!" Godiva yelped, taken back. How did a dead thing talk. Grrrr... this made her mad! Very mad! Godiva had been promised snacks! Not a mean trick!

The Nightmare growled and stomped her feet. Her tails lashed back and forth.

"Daddy!" She shouted. "DAAA~DDYYYY~!!!"

Jabril dashed into the room, took one look at the little scene unfolding before him, and leapt in between Setsu and his little adopted experiment.

"'Diva-" He snapped. "How did ye get out o' yuir cage agin?"

"Wanted snacksss~." Diva sulked, with a grudging flick of her ears. "Bars issss good snacksss."

"An' wha' ha' I told ye about eatin' those bars, young lady?" Ugh. Jabril felt a headache coming on. Why had the goddess science cursed him with such a troublesome subject?

"Bars issss expenssssive," Godiva lowered her tails, in a full-on pout. "But Daaa~ddy, there is a snacksss in here! And it talked! Ssssnackss isss not suppossssed to talk! Make it sssstop so I can eatssss it."

"Ya canna eat Setsu, Godiva." Jabril sighed. "She's na' as dead as she smells. How about I give ye come nice candy, an' then ye can go back to yuir room an' play 'til it's time fer yuir shots."

Jabril grabbed an empty test tube from off of a side table, and threw it to Godiva, who caught it in her mouth.

Godiva curled up on the floor, determined to be angry about the lost snacking opportunity. Not that it stopped her from munching on the delicious glass 'candy'.

"Mean sssssnacks." She muttered to herself.

Ears pinned back to the loud complaints growled from the other. Even if the kitsu was so young, Setsu could see it was built...and tempered, to be a strong grown adult. Question was, what was such a kitsu doing with Jabril? And why was it calling him daddy?

Setsu watched passively from her spot as the scientist cut into the scene, and began scolding the girl. Cage? She held her tongue for any dry wits attempting to escape. Besides, those two were much too intriguing to watch. Well, aside from the fact that she was being called a snack. o__o; Never heard that one before. Eyes glinted as a test tube flew in the air, sounding loudly as it was caught by Godiva's jaws.

"Wow, you're certainly good with kids." Maybe even a bit of a pushover? The femme rested her chin back on her paws as the sound of snack munching continued. Tell me, is she another result of science?" Speaking of such, where was Project. Nevermind. Or was this Godiva, dare say...a result of genetics?
PostPosted: Sun Feb 10, 2008 9:21 am

"M'na good with kids!" Jabril protested, desperately clinging on to the last shreds of his masculinity. "I ha' to take care o' me test subject, tha's all. I do'nae know why she calls me her father."

He fluffed his tails out in a huffy little gesture.

"Found 'er onna mountainside, I did. In tha' place with all th'fruits an' the like, rimember?"

Godiva ignored Jabril and Setsu in favor of wandering over to start eating the pillows.

"The acid in 'er stomach is brilliant stuff! Eats through concrete an' metal, e'en. I use 'er as a disposal fer all the hazardous waste in 'ere. I cannae find a substince strong enough tae take a real sample, but- Godiva, stop tha'!"

"Replacement snackssss~" Godiva mumbled, and kept chewing on the pillow.

"I tried t' undo th'stitches on 'er, but I do'nae think there are real eyes un'er there. And she was born with 'em! Can ye believe tha'? It's-"

Jabril suddenly stopped his rambling and wild gesturing, as he noticed that Setsu was bleeding all over his carpet while they stood and chatted.

"Er, righ'. Let's ha' ye lyin down so I can get a look at ye." He whipped his head around to look at the kit. "Godiva, go to yuir cage! Do na make Daddy tranquilize ye again! Or it'll be no lab scraps fer ye this week!"

Godiva trotted half-way towards the entrance, but seemed to be in no hurry to actually leave.

Jabril gave a long-suffering sigh, and carried on.

"Can ye tell me wha' banged ye up? The type o' hit ye took'll determine the king o' internal damage ye might ha'."

"Sure sure." That's all it boiled down to, was the condition of his experiments. From barred cages to tranquilizing, it sounded like a morbid zoo. But the endearment of father was a hinted comfort. Surely the youth enjoyed her home enough to say such things. Whether the two would realize and admit it or not.

"Yeah, I remember..." Setsu rolled onto her good side, dully listening at this point. Some things about acids and hazardous waste, she was hardly putting the pieces together. And a shredding noise that had the scientist yelping. "Hmm?" What was she asked to believe again? No matter, she'd ask later..

Eyes slid in the direction of the parting Nightmare, smirking to their argument. Then she was questioned, and the femme paused to think back on it. Banged up seemed like an understatement. But at least it hadn't been dealt by Grim. "Another kitsusagi. It was a swift kick...with...a metal rounded boot. " What had the other called it? Super-sonic speed, or something of the like. It had been enough that she felt her insides jolted, almost cracking like glass. "Internal damage?" She glanced down to her sticky fur, wondering how far the shock had run through her torso.

"Blunt force trauma t'the side," Jabril mused. He tapped his scalpel thoughtfully against the side of his face. Though it was difficult to hold such things without thumbs, Jabril managed well enough. Mum had some specially modified for them.

"Mmm, I'd guess ye ha' a rib fractured, but ye may ha' also ruptured s'me internal orgins. If it were anyone other than yuirself, I fancy ye'd be much worse off. This fellow ye were fightin' didna pull any punches."

Now that they were talking surgery, Jabril was scrupulously professional, though he couldn't keep the gleam of enthusiasm out of his eyes.

"M'going ta administer a local anesthetic, so ye should na feel any pain when I take a look."

He put the scalpel down and drew a needle out from the inside of his coat, then waited for her permission to proceed.

Well this is one memory she was rediscovering after so long....she hated doctors. No offense to the individual geniuses, but the sight of any medical object was enough to make her fur bristle. The only operation she had ever undergone was repair the damages of her lost horn. And that had not been fun. So any other curiousity of being in a lab for prodding since then had died.

"Fractured and ruptured?" She could see that being the case. And perhaps the only reason she wasn't writhing in pain was because her insides were otherwise idle, not pulsing and upsetting the injury.

She could only glare hesitantly to the other, eyeing the needle. Must it really be administered? ....Yes. Setsu nodded to the scientist, diverting her gaze to another wall. If her internals were stable, she would have much prefered just burning or sewing the wound closed. But that didn't seem an option...

Jabril silently took in the ugly mass of scar tissue at Setsu's neck. He thought of asking her if it had been acquired before after the death of her body, but thought better of it. Setsu would never tell.

"Godiva," he addressed his faux-daughter, who was still curled up in the hallway, "Go get th'Project, yeh? Daddy'll give ye some venison fer bein' a good girl."

"Okay, Daddy!" Godiva sprung up, always willing to help out for a snack.

With the kit safely sent off on her errand, Jabril was free to turn his attention back to Setsu. He pressed his left ear against her chest and was unsurprised when he could not detect a heartbeat.

"Normally, I'd use yuir blood as means t'deliver the anesthetic." Jabril sat back up. His mind was traveling at a million miles per minute, but he tried to keep his voice low and soothing as best he could. Setsu wouldn't be impressed if he went off on a tangent right about now. "Tha's how an injection usually goes, yeh? Done in one. But ye've lost a lot of fluid, and wi'out a workin' heart, ye should na ha' any circulation. Tha's why th'blood's takin' so long t'drain out o' ye. Th'heart is'nae hurryin' it t'wards the cut."

He picked up his syringe, and tapped it into the flesh just above Setsu's wound.

"Wiout th' blood t'work as a deliviry system, I'll ha' t'inject straight inta th' muscle tissue instead. T'is more shots than I'd usually use, but if m'correct, yui'll na feel more than a bit o' stingin'."

Jabril gave Setsu six separate injections before finishing up and tossing his syringe into the fire. If his predictions were right, a cool, numb feeling should overcome the wounded area fairly soon. Setsu's nerves must still be working, in order for her to walk and talk and be, and if her nerves were still working, then the pain could be blocked.

Magic? Hah! Forget magic. Science would not be denied.

Minutes passed in silence.

"How d'ye feel? Did it work?"

Jabril'd noticed Setsu's eyes growing more glazed over. He hoped that she would be able to respond.

Setsu dismissed the kit's leaving with a flick of an ear, keeping her sight locked to the wall. Jaw was locked and form tense as Jab's continued his analysis, from checking of heartbeat to speaking aloud his thoughts. And just to keep her sanity from cracking on her, she spoke as well. "The blood's all gone though." Be it her words were very short and few, a hint of any stress she may be with-holding.

"Is it done in one?" She didn't know, had never had to give shots before. Her better side rested heavily against the ground, the parts touching the stone floor feeling like a cold sweat. So... her injury was being prolonged? Longer than what was considered normal standards? Was that a good thing though...

Thoughts turned into a blind flash as Setsu winced, feeling the first needle. Straight into the damn muscle. Lips curled and she bared her teeth in a growl, whipping up by the time they were at the fourth injection. It felt like ice, being prodded with a blunt knife repeatedly. Claws dug into the carpet as she hid her brow on her paws, waiting for it to finally kick in. Three tails bent and tossed in a anxious manner, before finally lulling into stillness.

The minutes passed and the capricorn remained still, her torso half twisted so she was rest on her elbows tensely. And soon enough, she couldn't even feel her center save for an annoying prickling. She shifted so she could see the room once again, muzzle still between her paws. "I feel...drugged..." Ugh, what a horrible and sluggish feeling.
